Hey guys! I recently got my car back on the road and everything tuned up, GT Auto Garage did the work and i am extremely happy with their service and work on the car. I was just wanting people opinions on the tune, and the power output i obtained with the mods i have. I have looked at a few other peoples results and it seems a lot of people are making more power then me with similar mods. Admittedly the guys at GT did say they were tuning it safely to prolong engine life, but i just want to know how much more i could be seeing! I was told AFM's were maxed out at the 270kw power level also.

Mods are listed in my sig and here are the printouts -

Thanks guys!

Edit - Other info on the sheet is - Ratio: 3.555, TCF: 1, Gain: 0

Unfortunately the Air Flow Meters are going to be your limiting factor there but I was sure you would still squeeze a tiny bit more out of it. Even so, it's not always about the number on the paper, it's about how it drives and does it feel as fast as you would like it?

A good tune is hard to come by so if it drives the way you want, i'd say you're on a winner mate.

got a graph with a boost plot?

looks fairly unresponsive to me for such small turbos... nothing happens until around 5000rpm

Also that dip near 7000rpm shouldnt be there either

Not a bad result, but i think it could be better even with stock AFM's

^ shouldnt be that laggy at all.

Ive got 250rwkw @ 12psi from GT-SS (similar to R34 N1s), stock dumps/AFM/injectors etc etc.

Im making 7-10psi by like 3300-3500rpm, and not soon after it hits 250rwkw... almost 1500rpm sooner than graph above (250rwkw/5500rpm)

So i reckon either the EVC isnt setup well, or there is something else quite wrong.

sooo laggy.

my car makes 100rwkw more 3500rpm earlier in comparison.

are all gtr's that laggy?

don't think so. this is my old set-up.

32 GTR, stock engine, stock turbos (could have been N1s never really sure, but I think stock). HKS actuators, stock dumps, stock Intercooler, stock front pipes, apexi pods, cat back exhaust, cam gears, profec B and Power FC, running 15psi/1.05bar. i'm trying to think what 100km/h is in 4th? about 3800 or a abit less I think. it certainly felt very responsive.

Really? So the car should be picking up a lot earlier then it is? What other printouts / info should i obtain so i can figure it out?

mate

dyno is dyno

doesn't mean anything

when you drive on the road.when the car on boost?

early on late?

when the car hit full boost?

i think power figure is good.

with light mods for 270kw.

not bad at all.

my mate got T517z with head gasket / cams/ injector/ apexi pfc/ z32 afm. he made 322kw on 1.4bar.

your power is not too bad.

try put z32 afm and cams. it might change big time

:devil::D

What do you mean dyno is dyno? And means nothing?

It actually can mean quite a lot, and as that graph shows the car is terribly laggy. Simple as that. Its not a safe tune... its as laggy as if it had a 800hp turbo on there, but 1/2 the power.

You cannot deny it. Its clearly coming on late, my estimation is it makes 14psi @ 5500-5800rpm. It should be on by 4000rpm at the latest.

How it 'feels' on the street necessarily doesn't mean much either...

Golden question of the day -How do you know what its meant to feel like? Ill be broad and say - NO IDEA!

If Ben has never been in a properly responsive setup with similar turbos etc, you'd think anything was better than stock most of the time.

Hence he is coming here to ask people that either have been in/involved/own setups similar, what thier results were.

And as ive got my own, seen many and been involved in enough... the result shows something wrong. Could be a few things.

A peak power figure... in this instance means basically nothing.

Its the area around the midrange 3500-5500 RPM that is the big issue here.

Cams wont fix the prolem, if anything it might make it worse, another bad point in your post im afraid.

And... sadly your mates setup really doesnt offer anything to this thread either.

I agree with you Peter Eddie .

Dynos will measure peak power for sure but in no way accurately measure max power and torque throughout the rev range unless fully loaded from zero boost

Even then its not the road and done in either 4 or 5th gear slowly building up revs.

That power is aw power also not rear wheel as per most of the dyno charts on this site.

I am sure you know what a good tune feels like on the road.

Please excuse nismoid he can be quite arrogant, outspoken and condescending at times .

GTAuto garage wins my vote everytime and they will not sacrifice your engine for the sake of a pretty dyno chart. heh heh

Even then its not the road and done in either 4 or 5th gear slowly building up revs.

^^ you can adjust the ramp rate and load up the dyno to easily simluate the road to 'near enough'.

As per results posted by DirtGarage and other users, even in 400rwkw, going to awkw lost less than 10kw between the two runs

I agree with you Peter Eddie .

Yes but even if you don't agree about the dyno measuring peak power correctly, it is a tuning tool in the sense that it can be used to determine if the boost is coming on too late, or the power / AFR ratio could be better at some point in the rev range.

I mean, my car may be making less power on the dyno (and has stock turbos), but its curve is much more smooth (more like an arc then a very slow increase in power;) ). I also make ~200kw much earlier than in that graph....a lot more similar to what beer baron showed.

I think there is more tuning to be done there or something is wrong...

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
