can someone help me set my r33 with this ebc?

i want the low boost setting at 10psi and i want the high boost setting set to 12psi. and i dont want boost spike obviously.

i dont know what set,gain,start boost etc is best to suit the desired boost readings. can someone please help as i am new to this.

If I remember from my old tune, start boost was 8psi - gain was at 6 - set was 18. So when you drive around to tune it, fiddle with it from there and you should be fine. Basically GAIN is the fine tune and SET is the main control for the duty cycle of the solenoid/gate (can't remember which it controls).

Hope that helps. I know tuning these are a pain in the ass which is why I now have a boost tee and use the EBC as a boost gauge.

Where abouts do you live?

Are you testing on the highway in 4th or 5th? Those are the only gears you need to test.

Put the gain to 5% which is the base. Put the set to about 20%. Lower your starting boost to say 4psi. Now, run your car in 4th and see what your gauge says. Adjust ONLY your set until you roughly get near the boost you want before it starts to drop off at high end rpms. After that, if your boost falls off, increase the gain by 1% and see how you do. If you no longer experience boost drops but the boost is too high, reduce the SET by 2% and see how that goes - up by 1% if that was too much. Once you are getting what you want, then increase the starting boost until your limiter screams by 1psi at a time. Once your limiter goes off, reduce the starting boost by 1psi and that will be your nominal starting boost.

it spells it out for you in the manual what each setting does and the order in which to set them up. it even tells you how to trouble shoot. give the manual a good read through, then take it with you in the car if it's not sinking in yet. there is not much point using other peoples settings. every car is different.

the last 2 pages on the manual make it soooo easy.

but, ill help regardless.

if you want 10psi, put your gain at about 9% and your wastegate opening percentage at about 50%.

but this isnt all. now go to the setting after the gain where it shows a "psi" number. this is where you want your wastegate to start tapering off. set this at about 8. this will help with spikes.

now go drive your car. if it spikes, back the gain off 1-2% at a time. if your total boost starts dropping too, then up your wastegate percentage figures. if your boost is falling away too much one top, up that "8" to "9"

i also have an hks fuel cut defencer to get rid of overfueling/spiking boost issues, you might want to look into one of those, they are only about 130 bucks.

also, set it to use the "last boost" function, which displays the last highest boos for 3 seconds when you take your foot off the pedal.

i cant speak for your car, but mine is finnicky. i have to adjust it in the morning vs. the afternoon because of the temperature change.

wtf is a wastegate opening percentage?

The settings are SET (% increase over actuator pressure), GAIN (used to help with tapering or creeping boost, read in %), SETGAIN (used to hold the wastegate shut till desired pressure, reads in psi or bar), the rest are for warnings/alarms.

SET and GAIN both affect overall boost, SETGAIN holds the gate shut for as long as you want but it can't be set too high or it will spike.

I've been over this before but basically, start with a reasonable SET value (roughly work out what percentage increase you need.. 5psi -> 10psi = 100%) - don't go too high as the GAIN function will ultimately affect overall boost so start with a reasonable SET settings and then bump it up after you have used the GAIN setting to level out any taper or creep.

Once you get it holding the boost level you want, use the SETGAIN feature to bring the boost on faster - keep increasing it in small increments until it spikes then back it off a little.

It's not rocket surgery!

    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻

I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”

    • Yes it is ATF. I quote @Duncan "it takes a good synthentic auto trans fluid like Castrol Transmax Z" It's not a diff. It's a transfer case. Totally different thing. Yes, fluid will come out the sender hole. No you do not really need to drain it. Just pull the old, quickly poke the new, clean up and top up. But realistically, you should probably take the opportunity to change it anyway.
