your on crack bubba.....

4wd doesnt offer "true" driving experience?

its not how the cars powered that makes it a true/false/whatever experience

but on the street 4wd definately has its advantages :P

eg traffic light grand prix

I may be on crack but so are you if you believe the ATTESA system isn't a driving aid :( Any driving aid detracts for the purist experience :P

I do agree that 4wd has its' advantages on the street but like I said, I like what I like and that is struggling for traction in a rwd chassis :)

Wow, thanks for the response guys, that was great. More and more I'm leaning toward the GTR. For me, buying the gtst was a matter of what I could afford at the time; it was either a 32 GTR or a 33 gtst and I actually don't regret making the choice I did; I love my 33. Now it's a matter of either keeping the gtst or getting a GTR with money I could get a really good 34GTT for. Again, I'm going to have to side with the 33... it's a personal taste thing I think.

As it was mentioned, I think there's a certain degree of wank-factor when you go for the GTR badge. At the end of the day, as a daily driver the difference probably isn't going to be that important. It's just in some ways, it feels like you're settling for second best when you go with the gtst, and I guess that's how I feel about my current car. Sure, I love it, but it's no GTR.

In all honesty, all I want is a sweet car that's fun to drive and gives the HSV drivers something to fear. At the moment, I have a sweet car that's fun to drive :( ...

... and gives SS sedans something to fear

I've owned plenty of rwd cars and a few GTR's. The GTR's are absolutely 200% more a drivers car.

If you like struggling for traction then buy a peice of shit datsun 120Y and run around on bald razorblades.

Struggling for traction is the mark of a crap car/ non-performance.

traction control, limiting boost in certain gears, launch control, abs, power steering, suspension setting, tyres etc etc

there all "driving aids"

thats what makes a car complete/fun to drive is it not? :P

most retarted comment i've ever heard. have u ever been in a 10 second car?? or seen a 10 second car on the quarter? point proven. GOSH!

buy some shiny new wheels and then you'll love your car again for a while. I know the feeling. :D

But seriously, I'm in the same position as you but with ER34 and BNR34. You really need to think about it before you make the decision, because if you start modding the gtst more you will find it hard to part with it. remember you are losing $$ when you go to sell the gtst after modding. as u proly seen i just got new wheels, where I previously planned to have my GTR for around September next year, but because I've just started the modding process all over again after cooling off for a while, you end up wanting to keep it a bit longer just so you get your moneys worth/self satisfaction out of it.

Upon saying that, if 2-3k is peanuts to you, do some decent mods to that budget, see if your happy with it, if your not happy, I'd sell and buy the GTR at that stage and not waste any further money on it. imo. I've spent over 10k on my car and it seems like I've done f*ck all to it!

all these ppl saying sell and buy gtr...have you actually done it??? cause i did and guess what im driving again...gtst...

gtr is definitely a drivers car, gtst is simply a sporty car....add power and then it shows its weaknesses against the gtr...poor weight distribution, corner traction becomes an issue, but great straight line....this is what you expect from a rwd.

on the other hand throw power at a gtr and it loves it....oh and a drivers car isnt one that is slow cornering, understeer then oversteer, just because you need to fight it does make it a drivers car.....280kw gtr is a drivers car.....

back to the topic....when i faced the same decision i regreted it....gtr isnt really a daily driver....it wasnt practical...i know it can be done...i did it for 4 months, but it was like a tiger in the zoo.....all it wanted to do was race, but all it did mon-fri was putt around in traffic....

gtr are more expensive to maintain and neglecting to factor in additional maintenance costs will hurt....

but dont chuck the cash into the auto....sell it and buy a manual gtst...its a change and as they say its as good as a holiday....

I had a 32 gtst + 8 grand worth of rb30det turbos gearbox computers. and sold it all at a great loss to purchase an unregistered blown gtr.

Best decision :) new engine should be in soon. I get more pleasure looking at the gtr than driving the gtst

GTR is the top flight car for a reason. For handling and driving ability compared to premium sport cars you can't go wrong. If you want the best go for it.

I can slide all day in the 32 with flick of a key.

I'll take your vote for most retarded comment, perhaps you had a few beers on cup day so it's all good.

Drag racing makes a simple point so it's good you picked that as an example.

I have piloted an ice-skating low 10 peice of crap car down the 1/4 a few times. Not much skill involved, basically correcting the inadequate car setup is not 'driving', it's not even that much fun.

The mark of a successful 10 second braket car in drag racing in consistancy. You dial in , hook up and run the times. Snaking down the track is the sign of someone who isn't really serious with thier car setup or hasn't got it right yet. As you go quicker the idea is to have some control at hand to keep it tight.

I've seen a 8 second engine jammed into a 'peice of crap car' that did a 10 with it.

It had no bragging rights + no consistant times = lose.

And the same engine in a car designed to put the power down do an 8 with it. The difference? The car was setup to get lots of traction.

It had Bragging rights + consistant times = win.

Your not going to get a chance to go faster and well 'drive' if the car can't hold on or brake well enough to match it's own power or your skill/reaction times.

    • I'm back from the dyno - again! I went looking for someone who knew LS's and had a roller dyno, to see how it shaped up compared to everything else and confirm the powerband really is peaking where Mr Mamo says it should. TLDR: The dyno result I got this time definitely had the shape of how it feels on the road and finally 'makes sense'. Also we had a bit more time to play with timing on the dyno, it turns out the common practice in LS is to lower the timing around peak torque and restore it to max after. So given a car was on the dyno and mostly dialled in already, it was time for tweaking. Luis at APS is definitely knowledgable when it came to this and had overlays ready to go and was happy to share. If you map out your cylinder airmass you start seeing graphs that look a LOT like the engine's torque curve. The good thing also is if you map out your timing curve when you're avoiding knock... this curve very much looks like the inverse of the airmass curve. The result? Well it's another 10.7kw/14hp kw from where I drove it in at. Pretty much everywhere, too. As to how much this car actually makes in Hub Dyno numbers, American Dyno numbers, or Mainline dyno numbers, I say I don't know and it's gone up ~25kw since I started tinkering lol. It IS interesting how the shorter ratio gears I have aren't scaled right on this dyno - 6840RPM is 199KMH, not 175KMH. I have also seen other printouts here with cars with less mods at much higher "kmh" for their RPM due Commodores having 3.45's or longer (!) rear diff ratios maxing out 4th gear which is the 1:1 gear on the T56. Does this matter? No, not really. The real answer is go to the strip and see what it traps, but: I guess I should have gone last Sunday...
    • 310mm rotors will be avilable from Australia, Japan, and probably a few other places. Nothing for the front can be put on the back.
    • The filter only filters down to a specific size. Add to that, the filter is AFTER the pump. So it means everything starts breaking your pump even if its being filtered out.
    • Just like in being 14mm too small (296mm) makes it not fit, being 14mm too big (324mm) it also won't fit. You want to find the correct rotor.
    • @GTSBoy Ok so that was the shops problem...they showed R33 rotors on R34 page and i did not know 296 do not fit(and are for R33) Yes i bought "kit" with rotors and pads. Pads are ok(i have GTT calipers front and rear). They have some 324mm but no 310mm. So i dont know if they would fit. I have 17inch LMGT4s So another question. Can i fit those in the rear or they are just "too" big for that?
