anyone trying to say that neons aren't rice is seriously kidding themselves...

the reason that i dont like them is that they bring the WHOLE skyline community into the "hoon" bracket even more than we already are...

and even if YOU dont think it should... you KNOW that's what other drivers think

Neons are rice.

I hope i cleared that up so that no one continues to spam my thread arguing whether or not neons are rice.

I think if your neons are done properly and match the rest of your car and you aren't overkilling your car with neons then most drivers don't mind them.

I think a big exhaust puts you more in the "hoon" bracket than neons do. I doubt theres many if any people on here that have stock exhausts. I know that everyone that sees my car goes "wow you have a massive exhaust" and its not even that big compared to some other peoples, to me its about medium size.

My car looks pretty stock and is like 95% stock so most people don't consider me that much of a "hoon" (even though everyone driving a skyline is pretty much considered a hoon). Its actual performance enhancing modifications that make other drivers think your a hoon, not a little neon tube under your car.

the box is tiny.. can be hidden..could even mount it.. and the microphone (one mic as the other is built in) is in your engine bay and its tiny.. like malteaser tiny..the transformers stay on so you need another switch.. prob could wire it up to the box so they turn on when your box turns on..

Yes Tyson, RICE = To what you said but it has no Performance Gain, hence the word rice = All Show, No Go.

Thats what hoons do.

"big exhaust puts you more in the "hoon" bracket than neons do" = LOL! Your gonna get ya ass ripped apart for saying this... Yes put a big exhaust on a little 4 banger, which does not improve its performance then yeah your a hoon.

BUT

Your telling me (For Example) you would rather have a stock R34 GTR with neons then a R34 GTR with a performance exhaust..?

If I made a thread and put a Poll and Vote, I would guarantee you 99% if not 100% ppl are going to vote R34 GTR with Performance Exhaust.

Anyway back to your neons. Auto barn can help you out there and if it helps, don't use it all the time or leave them on all night cuz it might just drain your battery. Or install a 2nd battery in your boot to power it.

I'd much rather a performance exhaust than neons. What i'm saying is general drivers think people with performance mods are hoons because it makes your car go faster which they believe is completely unneccessary if your just driving on the streets therefore you must be a hoon. With neons they just think "that guy has some flashy lights, doesn't make his car go any faster though". If i were to drive like an idiot then they'd be thinking "damn hoon trying to show off". But just taking off at the lights with something like a loud exhaust people will be looking at you thinking "damn hoons always need to be the first off the lights".

LOL before he is flamed i think he means that others see the loud exhaust as a hoon car.. not saying it makes you a hoon..

Neons don't make you a hoon. they make you a Show Pony

Thank you, thats exactly what i meant.

Update 11/11/08: Neons are gay

+1

Its cool man each to their own.

Yeah theres been enough people posting on my thread that neons are gay, get over it already. I'm having them on my car and you can do whatever you want to yours, i really don't care what anyone else does to their car. As far as i'm concerned, if everyone else made their skyline look like complete shit i wouldn't think "omg, disgrace to skylines" i'd be thinking "wow, now everything thinks my skyline looks 10000x cooler since its the only one that doesn't look like shit".

You should care about your own car and your own opinions, not about other peoples cars and other peoples opinions. This thread was NEVER an opinion thread, it was an ADVICE thread on where i could get neons.

Hey Tyson, love the way you dont care about opinions on here, i never ask opinions cause its my car and i dont care what people say!

But you were asking for advice, so i'll pass on what i know:

**I know the neons look 400% better than the LED's -that's been covered already!

**I know the switch should be easily accessible for YOU, but don't leave it sitting on display on your middle compartment or anything. Originally i had 3 switches in my coin part in the centre and every trip out my mates would be flicking around with them! it draws a lot of attention and its hard to stop ppl after a few cans!

**I know the more the better! If you get a 'set of 4' then likely the two shorter ones will go at front and back, and the longer ones on the sides - that's how i did mine originally...BUT...there's big gaps from neon to wheel both sides as the sides are not long enough and the shorts at front and rear could be better as well. So what i did was put the long ones at front and rear, and doubled up on the shorts on the side so i had 2 shorts together=long, and go all the way from wheel to wheel (hope this makes sense) in other words i've got 6 neons going on under there.

**I know you're going to love 'em! ENjoY

(pic 1 is when i only had the set of 4 neons)

(pic 2 and 3 is when i extended these and changed them around. never mind the ice and snow and shit falling off my car in pic 2, this was just part of a display :P)

yea ur attitudes good towards u dont care i guess its your car and you can do what u like basically but i think what alot ppl are trying to say here is if your trying to be a skyline enthusiast then your running far away from that which is what 90% people who have skylines are a nice kit nice paint job nice motor maybe you should consider a honda civic?

vtec and rice are like meat and seafood.... a horrible combination that should never be, but is often done by cheapasses with no taste

LOL +1 basically what i was saying but this is in a more direct way lol

mate of mine had a civic sedan that he was ricing up, did intake, exhaust, body kit, rims, and of course neons.

Actually looked pretty good, even if it didn't really go much faster than stock :D

each to their own I guess, at the end of the day if you like 'em, put 'em on. Only advice I can give is make sure you get the right colour for your car. Nothing worse than seeing red neons on a blue car and thinking 'is he going for the superman look?'

God i love neon threads, so interesting to read.

Tyson i respect that you aren't fighting back, most people that start these threads end up having them locked because their last post is "You f**ks my neons are awesome and ill f**king kill you if i find out where you live" etc etc.

Thanks, I plan on putting the switch on the right side of the steering wheel so only i'd be able to touch it since i know a lot of my friends would be tempted to turn them on lol.

I'll definately try to put 6 neons underneath since it sounds like a really good idea.

Your car looks awesome, also your side mirrors are cool lol. Where did you get your neons from?

Lol i don't want a civic, i like skylines but i wouldn't call myself a skyline enthusiast. I just modify what i want to modify and i really don't want to modify much in my car anyway. Also being on the P plate laws i can't do anything to the engine otherwise i'd be driving a turbo instead.

Yeah i think i'm putting the right colour on my car, my car is black so pretty much any colour matches it anyway. I'm putting in blue neons.

Thanks, theres not really any point arguing when it comes to opinions though. Opinions are opinions, the only thing worth arguing is facts.

I know you're only going to use them when stationary, but didn't someone say blue/red neons aren't legit as emergency services use those coloured flashing lights?

    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve.
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
