I lost my brain and bought euro plates at the RTA. And then lost my brain and

didn't try to mount them to till the next day. Of course the rear plate doesn't fit

under any circumstances. $130 lost (as I didn't come back to rta SAME day).

Now I have the regular ones. Is there a rear plate bracket solution for R34?

the stock one doesn't work, in fact, the plate doesn't even fit flush there

isn't quite enough space. I have a temporary solution involving sticking a

metal plate to the back of the non metallic rego, then two ridiculously strong

rare earth magnets that are thick enough to hold the plate out enough so

there is more room (looking down from above, the space looks like \_x__x_/

where the X are the two magnets that the plate can be stuck to.

Nevertheless it still doesn't look right as the japanese frame is too high..

Sorry, long post on a short problem.

Get spacers (washers which are quite thick) This may help but honestly you have almost no chance fitting euro plates to a r34. Sounds like it semi fits but ive never seen a aftermarket plate holder for the r34.

yeah I figured. I might try to remove the japanese frame completely see where that leaves me.

Does anyone mount their small front plate very low down on the spoiler? literally an inch up

from the lip.. ?

attached two pics front and rear ..

You bought euro plates for a VERY Japanese car? :bomb_ie:

If you take off the cover, it should fit perfectly. You have the slim line ones (front is smaller) and the holder design for the 'lines is the same throughout the chassis I believe. Mine fits absolutely perfectly :(

Also, technically, those covers are illegal and defectable. (read it on an ADR bookmarked at home)

it was my fourth visit to the RTA in two days and my brain was fried. I took a liking to the colors, ok? ..

mostly black.. bit of gold..

really? those covers are on almost every nice car in sydney. Barloworld put one on my

golf last service because some parker cracked the last one they also put on. Maybe

they are defectable but then I guess the cops keep that in reserve for people they want

to piss off!

honestly the rear holder doesn't fit the plate, not without HUGE spacers and bolts I'd have

to find as well. Over 15 mm out for the spacers, more if you want to avoid the plate edge

touching the fender.

Cover doesn't wrap the plate, it just clips over it so the plate is no bigger on or off..

It will fit with spacers..

They arnt euro plates, I thought those weird euro ones with a N at the start..

Anyway Spacers will lift it up about 5mm and it will fit minus cover. You can get rubber grommets at dick smith which are soft so bolts wont scratch your plates minus the cover.

Hope u get it sorted.

Don't know if this will help...

Here's a pic of my old r34, you can just make out the edge of the plate cover, these are the plastic ones I pinched when I was working for a dealership and they clip around the plate rather than just sit on top with clips.

Don't know the size of the spacer, but it JUST fit on the edges of the reverse lights with the cover and still sat well inside the bar, looking nice and factory.

I used white slimlines which are exact size as your metallic

I'll try to find a pic I haven't completely covered the plate

PS. I too bought euro plates for my new car only to find they wouldn't fit properly, but I went macguyver on it's ass and fabricated a custom plate bracket, wouldn't look as well on an r34 though unfortunately

The standard bumper hole on the r33s and r34s (not sure about the 32s) fit the number plate when you space it out by about 1/2 cm.

To fit my plate cover, I modified the cover by using a bench angle grinder and grinding the black side edges about 1/2 cm narrower on each side. Looks like I bought it like that - and that is how I like it :) (Took about 1 hour of my time but imo, it was well worth it).

I have had 32, 33 and 34 (and 35 I gues) GTRs to fit plates too and the easiest way to fit regual NSW premium plates to a 34 GTR is just to slightly bend each end about 10-15mmmm in from the end. just stick the plate in a small gap somewhere and bend it about 70-80 degrees. get rid of the covers, they are illegal, make the plate impossible to fit and to be honest don't look that great. :P

a little hard to make out in the pic, but that's the beauty of it. it's barely noticeable.

    • So could it be assumed it has been installed intentionally with potentially a power FC boost controller kit?
    • Had my rig on Matt's dyno at PITS the other day. After a few years between tunes I added a few sensors and swapped intercoolers. Result. 553hp at 26psi. Not bad for an FJ20 that was built in 2007. The problem.. It filled the overflow bottle on hard runs which leads me to believe the head gasket isn't sealing. I have a coolant pressure sensor which was reading cap pressure at 22psi and occasionally overrunning to 23/24 psi on deceleration after a pull. It was not spiking. It has arp2000 head studs and a cometic gasket. As its been 18 years in service, I pulled the engine out and head off. Everything looks good but we obviously have an issue. Where I'm at.. Years ago I had the same issue, I checked the stud tension and they were all over the place. Some at 60 to 70 and some up near 90. I nipped them all to 100ft lbs and this stopped the water push until now. I believe this compromised the gasket back then. What do I do? 2 options are..  1) I bought arp 625+s, which I could put in with a new gasket. Thinking Kameari this time, reassemble and try again. 2) strip the block, get fire rings machined in with copper gasket and try that. I do not want to push it more than 28 to 30psi. I think the turbo will be out by then anyway. (G30-770). My other concern is the long term ability of a copper head gasket. Are they streetable for years? I feel like a new gasket with the new studs will probably suffice, but I don't know. Any thoughts welcome and advice on copper gaskets and fire rings. Thanks!
    • I'm a fan of the JZX110, and the Aristo. Big cruiser cars, and with the factory cars, super comfortable and feel like you're driving an armchair! And the JZ motors are a pretty nice engine too, especially with some basic mods.   The import process, and the need to be able to trust people, and the fact there's so many scammers around is what ever puts me off wanting to go through that ordeal!
    • I don't care for these at all, but at least the underside looks straight and not rusty. A good basis for a long life. Many cars from Japan have been lifted with forklifts and f**ked almost irrepairably.
    • Yes, but it's not dumb or dodgy. You can build a perfectly good boost controller from a pressure reg, a relief valve (looks same same as a reg if all from Norgren or SMC, for example) and a check valve. I ran one for years. Only superceded with  EBC because I could get one for cheaps and wanted finer control.   THis mod is certainly not a sketchy boost mod, provided the boost is kept below the "spin to death" threshold of the turbos.
