We refuse to sell the cheaper, 'name' brand coilovers that are becoming popular just because of macca's cred of having 'coilovers', when half the time they don't work, or need rebuilding after only months of use. At least with the DMS gear, we sell it, knowing it will out perform the customer's expectation, and won't come back broken in 6 months time...

DMS are either hideously expensive when compared to D2/K Sport/Tein etc., or ridiculously cheap when compared to Ohlins/Sachs/Reigers etc. You can look at it either way depending on how serious you are, but the later is more representative of the product! :rofl:

You get what you pay for,In my old car I got a well so called good brand jap coilover, and the car handled like shit was slower

and dangerous to drive.I would rather have a car that handles rather than a 1000hp car that is not much quicker than a std 1

about $7000 or more all up just for suspension mods .The price for a set of DMS coilovers are pretty reasonable I think

I totally agree, but unfortunately we get a lot of "oh, that's a bit more than i expected" after people have already priced up other cheaper brands of coilovers... I'm with in in that I'd rather throw the best in and not have to worry about them, or regret paying that little bit extra for quality. We just run the basic 40mm DMS struts in our gravel rally car and they're great. The 50mm are a whole another level again...

What have you been quoted for them?

a guy i work with has used them for rallying in his excel, and an evo that he rallys with, he said they were great, but fell apart quickly as there were alot of little touches that just werent there, like locking rings, he said they were good, but needed constant attention and it added time to their stops, and he said he had to send them back to get rebuilt.. they also couldnt handle the pounding of the rallying after 6 months so he went with a slightly more expensive set that he could rebuild himself.

Comer on man, be fair. You are talking about shocks needing attention after 6 months of rallying....any idea of the sort of abuse they take over single event? I would sugest a single rally event woudl be worth 40-50,000kms of street driving.

Especially when you consider that a clutch needs replacing after 2-3 rallies....and at the other extreme they say a single track day is about 6-8,000kms of street driving....then the shocks dont seem to be hanging in there too badly

The biggest issue with the DMS in the Excels is that for the last 3 years the Excel one-make series regulations have prohibited adjustable suspension. That mean the only option out of DMS was the 40mm casings with a different insert. The 40mm gear is MORE than enough for street cars, and sh!tes over the likes of Cusco/Tein/D2/G4 etc...

The other issue with the Excel DMS is that the Excels are some of the hardest driven rally cars in Australia, so that takes more of a pounding than usual which again puts more stress on what was already only designed for street/track use. Being a one make series, there's no excuse for people to be slow, and stock standard Excels on DMS regularly finish in the top 10 of state rounds against fields of 20 WRX/EVO's. The fact that a stock standard $4000 shopping trolley on $3000 DMS can knock off turbo charged AWD's worth 4 or 5 times more says more for the DMS that it does against it...

Next year the rules are changing allowing adjustable suspension, so the ability to go up the 50mm shocks will fix alot of the issues the Excels are having. Personally I'd had no issues with the DMS in our Excel this year after 8 events, and we're leading the QLD Series so we're not exactly backing off for the rough stuff...

But yep, in a street/track car, I've no hesitation in saying you won't have a problem quality wise.

    • ok so if i wanted to go 18's i would go for 8's  in front 30+ or 32+ off set at front and the back 9 would be ok? what offset should i aim for.. then can i do some  hunting for wheel rim choices..    If i get this - will this fit all around: Size: 18 x 8.5 +37 - n what tyres size tyre should i get for front n back?  
    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.  
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them 
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
