Hi Guys,

My names Dallas, I just moved down from Cairns in QLD, (going to join NSW club soon hopefully).

I'm going to retain my QLD Rego & License while i'm living down here for a few years, might be an obvious question, but i'm not too sure. Can NSW police defect me and so fourth even though i'm running QLD Rego & License.

Any help would be appreciated, hope to see you all out at one time or another anyhow. :)

Cheers,

Dallas

If that's the case, I'm on my P's. (Old P System) and I own and drive a turbo skyline, is this going to be a problem?

I shouldn't have to sell or be unable to drive my car because of this..seeing as i had my license before the new rules were enforced in QLD.

Can anyone shed any light on this? I also assume i'm going to actually have to wear P Plates, as they arn't mandatory in QLD.

This was covered on an interstate forum, whereby (if the info was correct), if you maintain the status (ie rego & lic) from your home state, then you'd be allowed to still conform to the laws of that home state and drive a turbo car. This of course pertains to your car.

Relating to you as a person, you'd be subject to licence conditions of this state. And this being NSW, you'd be wise to display your Ps.

A word of caution:

Probably more than 90% of defecting is done at night. I'd recommend that you take off any identifying badges that indicate that your car is a turbo model, lest you be pulled over so often.

I'm happy to be corrected on this,

Tez

PS If you're staying down here for "years", it looks as if you'll have only a short period of grace to change everything; which means OUCH to the turbo car!

PPS Perhaps, it'll be legal to transfer ownership of the car to your Qld parent? But then, you might be better maintaining your Qld lic. after all. Puzzling.

You wont have an issue mate, ask most people down from QLD they basically never get pulled over.

You need a QLD officer to issue some kind of infringement in NSW because of the legal differences (like in newcastle when they have vic and NSW police at defect stations), personally ive been up in QLD and the cops look yet dont defect.) .. Speeding is obviously not included nor is wearing a seat belt... nor is drink driving - you get the drift ..

P.S if you do any of the above you are a fool - not aimed at thread creator just thought id mention it .

If you've also noticed alot of high HP cars i.e majorly defected cars are registered in QLD and drive in sydney.. Have a look at george st.. Oh yes .. dont drive down this street.

Try not to drive vehicles around this time of the year - more RBT's more chance of defects.

if you already owned the car in queensland before the laws came into affect and got your lisence befroe aswell then i wouldn't see a problem, also i know of a person who just paid the $25 for an exemption because the car was his dads for many years before hand or something like that,,,, check qwith RTA anyway, they are usually pretty helpful, and they know all the rules and can get written confirmation from them....

and if you plan to go back to queensland every year in time to renew your rego i wouldn't bother even notifying rta of any changes anyway, aslong as you still got family in cairns....

I just spoke to the RTA who referred me to the Police hotline, who then put me through to a SGT of the Highway Patrol who was rather friendly and very well informed.

What i've found out is that;

I need not wear my P's if I don't feel the need, but we recommended I did so I don't get hassled if i'm pulled over.

Intercoolers must have mush in front of them to be legal.

Atmo Bov's arn't cool.

I don't need to transfer my license or rego over to NSW.

I can drive my turbo vehicle.

Thanks for all your help guys.

The car's registration must be in the state where it spends most of its time. Same with the driver's license. I've seen people busted for this in the past.

I have been pinged in 3 states, Police do not care where you are from, you will still get an infringement notice in the mail :ermm:

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
