How often does this happen and how many motorists get their wallet lightened unnecessarily.

exactly.

When i rang up i said the cop told me to hop out the car and pop the bonnet and he searched through my car found nothing, then decided to get me for tint as a last resort, when i rang regency and transport SA they said window tint isnt a major defect and should be cleared at a cop shop. so i stripped off my tint, gave the local cop shop a ring and asked to speak to the traffic sergeant.she agreed with me and long story short no longer needed for regency.

if anyone gets a pissy little defect that states regency i suggest u ring around

Find the ADRs regarding spoilers including all measurements, make the effort to draw up the dimensions of your wing and show how it fits the ADRs (providing it does), if you can do this and go down the cop shop I can guarantee you they will remove it for the basic inspection fee which I think is around $20.

Pain in the ass but that is the best way you will get heard without going to regency, then with your evidence that the issuing officer was wrong file a complaint.

Thing is you need this evidence or its going to be very hard to argue your case, with a bit of digging around you should be able to find the relevant ADRs though.

Regarding whether it is regency or not it is meant to be a major defect or suspicion of one, but its not a hard rule, they can put regency down for bald tyres or an oil leak if they want.

Thanks guys for helping me out.. The cop who defected me said the spoiler needs a 5 mm radius of curvature or more to not be 'sharp', he's assistant cop said something about 10 mm's- get this though, after going on ther ADR's website AND calling up regency themselves, it turned out that 'sharp' is 2.5 mm or less, my spoiler has a radius of 3.1 mm.. Literally the cop made up crap and thought I wouldn't look into it, him and his sidekick lied to me.. After goingto Holden Hill the lady there (who was nice but at the same time like a fishbone down the throat) said she wont remove the defect but will give me an extension to drive the car until the regency appointment.. What I'm gonna do is drive from police station to police station asking for a defect removal (the Elizabeth story hs encouraged me haha) and hopefully that'll work. Then I will be filing a complaint and lawsuit against the cop who lied and did this (I have his name and badge number).. Quick question, if it doesn't work and I must go thru regency, the one thing I gotta change is te HID Xenon lights to halogen globes, anyone know a special globes or way to fit halogen globes straight into r34 headlights?? cheers guys

Print out the ADRs and then draw a scaled down drawing of your wing, it'll take you 5 minutes and will go a long way to convincing any traffic sergeants at the police station, good work looking it up though, I would do the same, ring every bloody cop station in Adelaide until someone removes it for you.

I believe you have to go to the police station that the issuing officer was from. When I did this myself, I first went to the local station where I was told all he could do was give me an extension to drive the car, and I would have to take it to the Snr Sgt of the issuing officer to try for a removal.

If the rest of the car is clean Regency my not even look at the HID's. My 33 GTR went through compliance with factory projector type HID's. But compliancing is a bit of a joke.

Suing him because a cop didnt know, amongst the 1 million exact things they need to know, because he said it was 5mm rather than 2.5mm...

yeah it isnt exactly going to happen lol, maybe in the US cause they can sue for coffee being too hot but not here lol

Just got pulled over for doing a huge 2nd gear slide onto south road, basically said they were going to defect the car and that he was 'very creative at finding defects', after going over the entire car and finding it was basically in perfect condition he said 'you are lucky you have a certificate of exemption' regarding my letter from regency for my rb25 swap, fined me $150 for excessive noise with no points and left.

so lucky.

pretty much don't try this at home kids

Yep I the way I spoke and my job helped me a bit, they asked what I did and said I was an electronic engineer and they go 'you are lucky you are educated' and then dodged all their questions trying to get me to admit to speeding (as they didnt time me) and just did lots of nodding and saying I was basically a dickhead.

Ill suck up the fines as I had it coming driving like that, just lucky it wasn't worse. It was a falcon with two guys in tshirt and jeans as well, so no way to spot the car.

holy shit as if you got away with that!!

I really doubt there is anything they could defect me for, went through regency for rb25 swap and had a road test, brake dyno, emissions test and had all new bushes blah blah and got the cert only a few months ago, only difference was it had brand new federal rsr semi-semi slicks on it now so it looked pretty mint. He spent almost 15 minutes going over it with a torch, even checked my bloody windscreen wipers and water jets worked, was almost as full on as regency lol.

Good news.. I fixed it all thank God and it was fairly simple.. I called maybe 6 or 7 police stations, the moment they hear it's a 'regency' defect they don't wanna help or anything.. The trick was simply rocking up to a police station and giving them the form as if it was completely normal, my cop was so nice, he just looked to see if the spoiler was there, took the sticker off and I payed 26.50 and it was over.. I dunno if he missed the fact it was a regency defect or if he didnt care, but it worked and I was right outa there.. As for the spoiler, I will put it back on and if I get pulled over for 'sharp edges' I'll take out a copy of the relevant ADR's and my measuring tool and show them that in fact my spoiler is legal, bastards!!! lol :P

  • 1 month later...

Hey guys, recently got defected, got a few questions if someone can help me out.

The "defectable" items that i will be keeping on are

TEIN super street coilovers and Greddy FMIC.

I read somewhere if you lock the coilover somehow you can get through with them on, does anyone know what the rules are?

and the front mount i have cut a hole in the steel on the left hand side of the engine bay just below the windscreen washer bottle.

Any help would be appreciated as it is the Christmas holidays so i cant ring them up.

Thanks

    • You know how your car rolled through a fence in your last jacking escapade? Scissor jacks increase the likely hood of that sort of thing happening immensely!

    • Just trying to get my head around this. At 5psi of boost, you turn on your wmi pump, and then you're using a 3000cc injector, to allow flow upto the actual engine, where you have your 6x200cc injectors and a 500cc injector. If the above is correct, what advantage are you obtaining by having the 3000cc injector blocking flow, is this just incase a line breaks between that injector and the motor you can stop flow immediately? Or are the 6x200cc and 500cc less injectors and just spray nozzle?
    • Welcome! New member myself, but I had an R33 back in 2002. Best advice I could give, based on my experience: if you're running the factory turbo, be very conservative with boost. I made the mistake of just fiddling around with the boost controller and cranking the boost for fun, and the end result was my intake pipes popping off frequently from the constant deluge of oil that was being blown into the recirc by the stressed-out turbo, which itself was siphoning oil from the engine and farting it out both sides of its centre bearing (or something to that effect). If I could do it all again, I would have gotten a new turbo and had a tune dialled in professionally and then just left it alone! Funny you mention the metal shavings in the gearbox, as I had the same thing - the probe plug (magnetic drain plug, essentially) would come out caked with shavings. At least it was doing its job. Not sure if that's just sacrificial wear and part of the deal, or if my gearbox was shagged, but I wasn't abusing it. Enjoy the R33 - they're a dying breed, and if they weren't $35k+ on CarSales in Queensland, I might have picked up one of those again, instead of the 370GT I own now (though I'm loving the 370GT, that big 3.7L V6 just hits different).
    • Howdy folks. I owned an R33 back in 2002, which was thoroughly beyond my capacity (financially speaking) to maintain/insure, so we parted ways in 2004. Fast forward 21 years (to literally yesterday, in fact) and I'm now the proud owner of a 2007 V36 370GT. I'm happily surprised by how much power the VQ37VHR makes, compared to the RB25DET, considering the latter is turbocharged. I had planned to add a turbo at some point but I'm on the fence about whether I'll even need it (though I do love the sudden onset of extra torque). Any other 370GT owners around the traps, I'd love to hear about your experiences with this car (good and bad).
