Help!!! my Rear Number plate does not fit

Got my car registered today and the Back plate will not fit, about 10mm either side to big. I own a R31 GTS-X. Questions are:

1. can you modify the standard plate to make it fit?

2. Can you get a Sticker/sign writter to make one up with a reflective background.

is it legal to do the above any off the above if not what the hell do you do???

Or get personal plates but specify US size rear, they fit.

Yeah you can try and put a u shaped bracket on both ends, I'm not sure though if it would look good, I've done it to the front of my skyline

I just use tin snips a bit off each side and it should be fine.

I'm pretty sure that option number 2 is illegal... Not that i've

tried it or anything...

Are they slimline?

I think slimline fit ok.. just go back down to vicroads, pay and extra bit of $$ and get some slimlines on the spot

The only way I can see I am going to get it to fit without getting in the way off the number plate lights it to cut it in half and slide one half over the top of the other making the letters & numbers closer to each other...... Yep they are slimlines

i have hacked my front number plate and its never been looked at... just cut the edges off if you want..

don't you mean somebody else must have damaged your plates one day when you parked at the shops?

modifing number plates is v.illegal...

Ok I have attacked my plate as recomended by Vic Roads & others on here. I rang them this afternoon about this, and there words were bend cut bits off as long as it is afixed to the car. So out came the tin snips and some trimming & bending has accoured...

just cut the sides of the number plate off as my rear number plate is cut to fit

Cutting them is illegal and there's a decent fine too. Just bend them back, as long as you don't destroy them you'll be fine.

hmmm... i have hacked sides and corners off mine and drilled holes right through the middle to affix them higher than the standard position....

just bend them, it takes 5minutes and is in no way illegal
