Hey Peeps,

Yes i am a newbie and no, i am not being slack, it is just that i have read hundreds and hundreds of articles, threads etc etc on what performance mods to do to a stock r33gtst to get some reasonable fun out of it.

I have always up until know been a 2 wheel speedster or ye olde worked V8 boy! i have seen the light after driving my cous's R33 GTR V-spec and all i can say is OMG!!!!!

Basically in the next week or two, i hope to secure myself a bloody good 95/(96/97seriesII) manual r33 gtst with around 50-60,000 clicks.

From what i can guage from all the info available a good start would be the following:

pod filter, isolated from engine bay with CAI;

3" Mandral bent Dump Pipe, high flow CAT, 3.5" SS exhaust;

Front mount IC;

some kind of EBC (suggestions please on kind);

some kind of AFC (apexi S-AFC II or Profec B) seems to be popular;

A BOV is debateable with stock turbo, but what about with aftermarket FMIC??? i aint a rice boy so a loud Psst means shit to me!

Now this seems to be about all i can pick from what i have read without then going to aftermarket BB turbo, if i can get good results from the stock (maybe hi-flowed if recommended) then i will leave it be or otherwise i will upgrade!

Comments, be them constructive or pulling the piss are welcome but i can't guarantee a gentlemanly reply if you hang to much on me.

BTW i aint getting a GTR cos the INsurance quotes are so stupid that after 5 years i could have had almost 2 cars! so a GTST seems appropriate until i hit 30!

Yep, your list of mods is pretty much the standard stage 1 upgrade.

I'd go the intercooler before the boost controller and AFC, and then check the fuel pump is OK when you start to boost it.

Don't forget about suspension. Stock 33s aren't brilliant handlers and the mods you have listed will really overpower the stock setup

if you are going to do any turbo work, dont waste your money highflowing the standard, go for an aftermarket BB turbo, HKS, Garrett, Trust etc. well worth the money and with killer results.

SAFC is good if you arent going to change the turbo (as R33 computers cant be "chipped") otherwise get programable management - but as you know that aint cheap!

otherwise you have a good idea of what needs to be done. make her breathe better.

Trust turbo's are sleeve bearing not ball bearing :P

Those mods tuned proper should give 180-200rwkw.

uses a $170 bleed valve that holds boost better than an AVCR, I cant see why people would waste the money.

you get a nice power incrase when you add a fmic even with the stock turbo, as the stock cooler has a 5-8psi drop accross it at high boost and up high in the rpm as it is so small and inefficient

That sound's like a good setup,not to over the top should be fun for u to drive ,get a safc and cheap bleed valve for around $360 instead of a electronic boost controller which r like $400-700 and u can easily sell a safc if u decide to uprage the turbo,ecu.Also only get a hybrid bov (plumb/atmos) as skylines have troble stallin with atmosphere bov's .But only get 1 if u find a cheap 2nd hand 1 as the stock one work's well for reasonble boost levels.(under 16psi)

Anyway, am checking out a few this weekend so hopefully may have something soon to start addin da mods too!

Any how, does anyone in SA know the candy apple red skyline that won some auto salon award for paint job in 2002, i forget but it is on www.carsales.com.au and i am thinking about that one, looks the part. Getting him to get a mech report, any one know of any reliable performance mechs in sa i could recommend to him cos if that comes up !!! then i will prolly fly over and pay damn his money!

if you're serious - come along on sunday to the WA fixy-car thing. in the events section in WA. Someone will be happy to give you a lift.

have a look at a few cars and talk to some people.

the basic stuff is pretty straightforward....and a lot of people trat the same path to 300rwhp. only once you get beyond that do opinions on turbos, management etc get more complicated and more conflicting.....

Going to check my ECU coolant temp wire tomorrow    From NICOclub forum: s1 RB25det flooding at start up Thu Apr 11, 2013 7:23 am I am completely lost on this. Car ran perfectly fine when I parked it at the end of the year. I took the engine out and painted the engine bay, and put a fuel cell with an inline walbro 255 instead of the in tank unit I had last year. After reinstalling everything, the engine floods when the fuel pump primes. if i pull the fuel pump fuse it'll start, and as soon as I put the fuse back in it starts running ridiculously rich. I checked the tps voltage, and its fine. Cleaned the maf as it had some dust from sitting on a shelf all winter, fuel pressure is correct while running, but wont fire until there is less than 5psi in the lines. The fuel lines are run correctly. I have found a few threads with the same problem but no actual explanation of what fixed it, the threads just ended. Any help would be appreciated. I found the problem though. There was a break in one of the ecu coolant temp sensor wires. Once it was repaired it fired right up with no problems. I would have never thought a non working coolant temp sensor would have caused such an issue.
    • Hi sorry late reply I didnt get a chance to take any pics (my mechanics on the other side of the city) but the plugs were fouled from being too rich. I noticed the MAF wasn't genuine, so I replaced it with a genuine green label unit. I also swapped in a different ignitor, but the issue remains. I've narrowed it down a bit now: - If I unplug and reconnect the fuel lines and install fresh spark plugs, the car starts right up and runs perfectly. Took it around the block with no issues - As soon as I shut it off and try to restart, it won't start again - Fuel pressure while cranking is steady around 40 psi, injectors have good spray, return line is clear, and the FPR vacuum is working. It just seems like it's getting flooded after the first start I unplugged coolant sensors to see if its related to ECU flooding but that didnt make a difference. Im thinking its related to this because this issue only started happening after fixing coolant leaks and replacing the bottom part of the stock manifolds coolant pipe. My mechanic took off the inlet to get to get to do these repairs. My mechanics actually just an old mate who's retired now so ill be taking it to a different mechanic who i know has exp with RBs to see if they find anything. If you have any ideas please send em lll give it a try. Ive tried other things like swapping the injectors, fuel rail, different fuel pressure regs, different ignitor, spark plugs, comp test and MAF but the same issue persists.
    • My return flow is custom and puts the return behind the reo, instead of at the bottom. All my core is in the air flow, rather than losing some of it up behind the reo. I realise that the core really acts more as a spiky heatsink than as a constant rate heat exchanger, and that therefore size is important.... but mine fits everything I needed and wanted without having to cut anything, and that's worth something too. And there won't be a hot patch of core up behind the reo after every hit, releasing heat back into the intake air.
    • There is a really fun solution to this problem, buy a Haltech (or ECU of your choice) and put the MAF in the bin.  I'm assuming your going to want more power in future, so you'll need to get the ECU at some stage. I'd put the new MAF money towards the new ECU.
