I have a '97 Stagea 260RS arriving very soon.

I am wanting to do suspension modifications, and have been readindg the very imformative section

within a forum, specifically on Stagea suspensions. I have a reasonable idea on a direction to take, but

most of the comments and imformation have been based on the RS 4 model.

Would be great to specifically communicate with a 260 RS owner, as these may differ , and sure they do !!!

Cheers Mike

There is a suspension section in the Stagea section of this forum, have a look around.

I have looked and pulled X4 owners from both the Stagea owners and suspension section. So far no success

with contact, but being Xmas, could take a week or so !!!!

Hey Cloaky. Nice purchase. I'm sure you will enjoy it. Read the Stagea group-buy thread (and related threads) by SydneyKid. He did a fair amount of R&D into Stag suspension. There is some mention of the 260RS in the thread. The 260RS uses R33 GTR rear cradle and as such, has slightly different rear suspension to the RS4. It's not a major problem though. Parts are readily available as it's GTR suspension :)

I've found the 260RS suspension is fairly firm for a wagon, but could probably be a bit firmer and use a bit less body roll. Having said that, I am quite impressed with how it handles. I used to own a GTI-R and I reckon the Stagea feels far more settled in the corners at speed.

Did you get my reply to your PM?

I havnt taken mine to the track yet, but will once its been tuned. Then i can really gauge what its like.

I have NISMO struts in mine with cusco camber arms front and rear. Its a nice compromise on the street, feels firm but still comfy. It is desperate need of some beter sway bars as it has quite bad body roll. I think also it needs a decent wheel alignment. It has fairly decent turn in, but atm its let down by the tyres i have on it as they push wide before the car shud be, i can actually feel the tyre moving.

I would be contacting SK for sure and get a fully matched set up. Bars, springs, shocks etc. And get a good wheel alignment. Allthough the japs seem to love it, stiff as hell isnt allways best.

Be sure to let us know how ya go!!

"I used to own a GTI-R and I reckon the Stagea feels far more settled in the corners at speed." do you drink double brown ? or buller red band ?

Hey?? GTI-R is very quick in the straight line. I still think my old one is quicker than my 260RS. But throw in some corners and it's understeer central for the GTI-R. Mine had stock springs and shocks though :spank:

I cant say much atm, get my 260RS rego'd next Monday (guess who's excited?)

I'm not expecting a hell of a lot, I own a R32GTR with 280kW @ all 4s, so I know the 260RS is'nt going to go like that beast does. But I am planning on selling the R32 and have the wagon as my everyday ride.

This is a whole new ballpark for me. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this thread and swapping info with other 260RS owners.

Thus far, as far as mods go, I've put on a set of R34 rims (actually they are in the garage, I'll put them on AFTER rego) :) but I had them on and took a few pics to get me by until its road legal.

A power FC has been purchased and a set of Tomei cams and cam gears. The engine is a N1 version as well as the turbo's. So I'm hoping for decent power just with cams and a tune. No idea what sort of figures I'll be looking at. Got a nice Trust front mount to go on, but other than that, I've been told the car has quite a bit of after market stuff already, like the HKS remote oil cooler and aftermarket suspension. Though once its on the hoist I'll know what brand they are.

Cheers.

Nice car. Did it come with the roof rails already removed? Bog standard they are not really quick but with the poncams and a PFC I reckon you should see around 240AWKW at least.
Sounds like a nice car indeed. I wonder when the N1 engine was swapped in. Someone once tried to tell me that 260RS has an N1 motor and turbos standard, but I'm scepticle.

Nah there a stock R33 GTR motor and turbo's.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
