Hi,

Ive decided to test out motul 300v chrono oil on my r32 and the results have been awesome.

The car idles much smoother and quieter.

Just wanted to know how long I could drive on this oil before replacing. Being such an expensive oil I would like to think it would last longer than your regular oils.

My previous oil (martini) was changed every 5000km but wasnt as expensive or fancy as the 300v.

Would the 300v be fine up to 7500km or 10000km?

The car is a daily and will see one motorkhana event in the next 5000km.

Should i bother changing it every 5000km for a daily or can i stretch it out to 7500 / 10000km?

Thanks

Patrick

My car is a daily used for work and uni, so i do a bit of driving. I usually do 5000km in about 3 months.

As the motul is 2-3x more expensive than the regular oils, wanted to know if it had a longer lifespan due to its quality. Didnt want to dump $100 every couple of months when it can easily last more kilometers.

Cheers

Its fully synth, they can easy last 10,000 KMs infact Ive read that changing fully synth oils before 10,000 KMs is pointless.

Mate my 2 cents is you are over doing it with 300v in gtst unless it's heavily moded rb20. I had gtst and Motul 4100 10-40w is just fine if you change it every 3 mts or 5k wichever comes first. Of course if money is no issue then go with 300v.

Also any good quality semi syn oil is fine if you change it frequently and if you buy bulk (20l) can it's even cheaper!

Oh and don't forget after any track work oil change is a must.

Dave :)

What do you mean by heavily modified? My car currently has rebuilt hks2530 and will be pushing about 220kw atw after tune. Went with motul 300v for the sake of the new turbo.

I'll try 4100 next time.

Cheers

Hey pat, send a pm to Athid (the guard roller from melb). He is a Motul rep, last time I spoke to him he said 10,000 would be fine ( I think they did a 25,000km test in his company car on 300V and the oil was still fine and they had it tested for metal content etc) but it depends on your car and how you drive. I usually change it at least every 6 months regardless of km's, but if you're doing heaps of track days or the oil starts getting abit dark then change it earlier.

  • 7 months later...

Yep, digging up an old thread, but didn't want to start a new one.

I've had the 300V in for approx 3 months, and have only done around 1000k's which included 2 track days. On both track days brakes went pretty early so really didn't push that much. (1st day cracked the rear rotors, second day cracked the fronts :-) ) Should i change?

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
