in your n/a as in n/a what. . rb25?? alloytec??

Does anybody know what a stock vz (or with min mods like exhaust, cai) will do down the quarter. .

I know my old vl, stock RB30E did a 15.9. .

Im guessing a vz will do a high 14- mid 15

my 33 sorry i sorta went off topic

I've been hearing good things with turbos on the VZ engine, apparently they're pretty good when the compression is dropped.

The alloytec motor is the same as saab uses in the 93 aero...V6 turbo. The saab version is an awesome motor.

lol i hit redline at like 70/80ks in my 33, with turbo box. was an NA, but not anymore....

lol mine still na im going to do the turbo conversion..my gearings a bit tall so it takes a long time for my car to wind up

When I went to the drags with my friend (who owns a VZ SV6 = alloytec 195 3.6lt) he ran a 15.9 but the biggest let down with those cars is the clutch it slips far to easy. He had a bit of an exhaust upgrade but not much. If they had a decent clutch, light flywheel, zorst and short diff ratio (3.7 - 4.11) they would reel off a low - mid 15 down the quarter.

The best I've got out of RB30DE so far is 15.5 @ 91mph, but that was with a shit diff ratio (now have a 4.11 spool) so no traction over the 60ft with the single pegger and it was still rather warm, my motor should be good for a mid 14 as it sits.

I have both... a VZ storm with 3.6ltr Alloytech and an R31 with RB30DE.

Even on a basic running in tune the RB30DE is far more responsive and generally better all round than the Alloytech.

id have to disagree with you on that.. and yes i have owned both as well... the VZ pulled like no tomorow from 40ks onwards and was definately faster in a straight line race..

Maybe mines a dud...? Uses more fuel than a 5ltr Monaro,5.7ltr SS and 6.0ltr SS. Even Holden cant explain whyit uses so much fuel... They have tried tuning, injectors, FPR, sensors, the list goes on and on...

Doesnt matter how I drive, whether towing a trailer or completely empty I just cannot get fuel consumption down to reasonable level.

Mines is very flat off the line, pulls OK to about 110ish and falls over after that...

My RB30DE on the other hand...

Have you guys ever dragged a VZ Executive on a 3.08 diff, headers, hi-flows......... custom tuned (not by a tuner who just does it quickly in 1 day). They will eat a skyline for breakfast (if tweaked properly - not even near potential).

Your right alloytechs are good above 4k .......... tune them up (not avg tune).......... they flog a sv6.........

Mines strong off the line, once u get out of the 1600rpm (spark advance -1's) ....... (which I have for fuel econ) ......... the car plants into the road and takes off...... When I hit my 4000 range the torque jumps like 3-5% instantly on mine......... it's just like a turbo, suddenly engine free immediate pull even when going fast up the range.

I raced a few skylines, mostly N/A........ flog em everytime. One I come across was a R34T? ....... white, better looking them most, it had a mad exhaust, obviously all custom seemed like it was turbo......... he thought he'd be a smart arse........ so we didn't really drag, I just stayed in first gear and kept crusing up n then he decided to plant it......... second later I was gone....... smoked him. I think alot of skyline owners dont know about the above 4000rpm on alloytechs.

I respect skylines tho as u can do them up immensly....... but just like alot of commondore owners.......... they dont and hence they get wipped.

By now, most know the alloytech engine has been deemed a "torque monster".

PS. Funny thing with the turbo skyline i dragged, normally even tuned i thought it'd get me......... but that day i decided to adjust my ve tables, optimal engine torque and air demand for torque........... and pumped up my 4-6k rpm range......... and it seriously even stunned me how quickly i owned that guys face.

Alloytechs are very explosive, lots of fun tuning them............ as long as keep at it, u turn like a slug into a v8 effect off the line into a turbo feel above 4k rpm.

Personally I'm waiting for the SV6's to come out with direct injection.......... they'll be lots of fun in the coming years.

i thought school holidays were finished.....

lol.

I have to agree tho, those sv6's are a good engine.

I raced one too ages ago - when i had a massive misfire issue. and we were pretty even but he slowly pulled away. However, I could hear him fully revving out 1st and 2nd, where as I didnt rev much(around 5-6k only)

Next day - took my car to soichi and found:

* crap plugs

* coils arcing

* timing retarded to 12 instead of 15!

* boost solenoid f**ked - causing massive creeps to 15psi.

Now, after new plugs, setting the timing, taping up the coils, and adding my MS-IBC ebc, the car was a different machine. It pulls harder then my mates 200rwkw 25t.

Now I just want another run with that sv6.

    • But first....while I was there, I also swapped across the centre console box for the other style where the AV inputs don't intrude into the (very limited !) space.  Part# was 96926-4GA0A, 284H3-4GA0B, 284H3-4GA0A. (I've already swapped the top 12v socket for a USB bulkhead in this pic, it fit the hole without modification:) Basically to do the console you need to remove the DS and PS side console trim (they slide up and back, held in by clips only) Then remove the back half of the console top trim with the cupholders, pops up, all clips again but be careful at the front as it is pretty flimsy. Then slide the shifter boot down, remove the spring clip, loose it forever somewhere in the car the pull the shift knob off. Remove the tiny plastic piece on DS near "P" and use something thin and long (most screwdrivers won't fit) to push down the interlock and put the shifter down in D for space. There is one screw at the front, then the shifter surround and ashtray lift up. There are 3 or 4 plugs underneath and it is off. Next is the rear cover of the centre console; you need to open the console lid, pop off the trim covering the lid hinge and undo the 2rd screw from the driver's side (the rest all need to come out later so you can do them all now and remove the lid) Then the rear cover unclips (6 clips), start at the top with a trim tool pulling backwards. Once it is off there are 2 screws facing rearwards to remove (need a short phillips for these) and you are done with the rear of the console. There are 4 plugs at the A/V box to unclip Then there are 2 screws at the front of the console, and 2 clips (pull up and back) and the console will come out.
    • So, a bit of a side trip, but one that might be interesting for people with JDM cars and japanese head units. I know @Pac previously posted about a carplay/android auto adapter he installed which used the AUX input, and @V35_Paul put in one of the Tesla style units that replace both screens. The option I went with was a Lsait LLT-YF-VER5.87_2 (https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Lsailt-8GB-Android-Multimedia-Interface-for_1601187633672.html). Price was $1,150 for a single unit although they are much cheaper if you are willing to buy 2....$857ea. Make you you get the version 2 not version 1, it is faster and has a better UI - this is the manufacturer listing: http://www.lsailt.com/product/348.html. BTW if you've never bought from Alibaba before, don't be concerned....these guys can't stay in business unless they are responsive, ship fast etc, they were excellent (probably faster shipping than most local places) So, this was my task for a lazy Sat afternoon....looks complex but was all done in a few hours (it probably helps that I had some of it apart before so it was a bit familiar). I also decided to add a HD USB drive recorded at the same time and the unit also supports an aftermarket reverse cam (if you don't want to retain factory) and also AV in and HDMI out It looks much worse than it is, in fact in was genuinely all plug and play (no custom wiring at all). This video was pretty good (skipped a few steps), unfortunately they are an Aussie seller but no longer sell this unit (I guess Carplay/AA adapters are easier to install and much cheaper) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5hJfYOB8Dg
    • That still isn't a lot to go on. I don't have a Y50 Fuga Head Unit wiring diagram. I can say that a lot of nissans of that age shared head unit plugs, so if you are in Australia something like this would probably help: https://aerpro.com/app091# You plug that into the car loom, then either plug the head unit ISO into that (if it has ISO), or you buy and ISO adapter harness that you wire in. Bit of stuffing around, but once you have ISO its easy to change things in future.
    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
