Hey,

I believe my ignition in my R32 GTS-t is up the sh!t as when you so much as turn the ignition on to ACC the Apexi PFC starts ticking??

The hand controller lights up but only displays the initial "Apexi" which is of no help to me.

I'd say from looking at the wiring that it's been hacked at a few times but yeah, surely there'd be one wire that'd shed light??

Any help is greatly appreciated!

hows your battery voltage?

around 12v (give or take a few) The voltage will drop when u are winding it over.

Also check that the terminals are nice and clean, make sure they are tight too. i have a Wolf 3d in my R32 and it was doing the same with dirty terminals

+1 for battery issue

Shall have to investigate this 1st thing in the morning.. God dam i hope thats all it is!! It'd sure put a smile on my dial rather tahn the thought of tracing wires :/

i had a similar problem when my high mount manifold got hot and melted the loom together... the power fc just came up with apexi and a relay near the power fc was making a ticking noise... engine would not start

found the melted loom and had to rewire the whole lot, might not be the same problem but worth a check (loom was melted where it goes around the strut tower on passenger side

I have also had a ticking sound from the passenger side of the car but have never worked out the problem as its very very intermittent. I have thought it was boost solenoid for avcr screwing up.

RB20 starter motor failure can cause this though from what i found with mine. I had starter motor fail and my electrics went crazy and also heard the ticking from pass side. Also killed my battery in the process. Fitted new starter and battery and all was normal again.

After trying to turn the car over go and feel your battery terminals. If they are hot you have too much resistance. Voltage doesn't matter if your terminals are dirty or you have a bad earth. Correct voltage at the battery doesn't mean much other than your battery isn't dead flat or have busted cells. Also check the under bonnet ignition fuse. If this is blown it will not turn over and will give the symptoms you mention.

when did the problem start?

did the PFC ever work?

has you made any changes?

was it recently installed?

if the PFC is ticking the unit is damaged usually - open it up and look for burnt components

otherwise the wiring is mangled and something is shorting out

    • Nah that is not actually a lot. Just painting my GTR frontend and the little bits to make sideskirts/nismo flare pieces work correctly/fit on the sedan/mount up correctly came to about $7000. Is it a lot? Sure. None of this is economical. Economy would be shelling the car and buying a 2010 Corolla to commute in. The perspective of all of this is different.

    • I don't see any issues here. I've been saying all along this is a big job, the price reflects that.  When the car comes back perfect I'm sure it will feel like money well spent.

    • So, I started this repair and got as far as "fixing" the holes with some fibreglass. God all those years working on boats came back quickly. I decided I'd reach out to some rust guys just to see what they would say about it. I came across a guy about 40 mins away and went to see him. He said the windscreen needs to come out, that there might be some more bits around the windscreen and he'd quote them at the time. But his quote was $300 to remove and replace windscreen and $3k for the damage he can see. He said he could respray the roof for $1200 and the bonnet for another $800 (somebody has previously rattle canned it, its horrendous). This is $5300 + any small additional bits. It's a lot, I get that and the name of one of my fave youtube channels 'Not Economically Viable' comes to mind.  I'm not being financially rational, but I've taken him up on the quote. He's opening a new shop in November with more room, so we're waiting for that. I'll leave the currently missing headliner out until then. I'm looking forward to it being fixed and having the paint looking nice again (lots of clear coat issues on the roof too). / flame suit on.
