Hey guys, I plan on taking my camera/video camera along to some cruises. I had a quick look on youtube at the existing SAU Vic cruise videos. The videos cameras are either held by pedestrians or passengers with bad tremors :D

Theren't weren't any stable videos actually showing good quality in-car footage. Just wondering, does anyone have a video camera mounted in their car? I was thinking of doing this but unsure where I would mount it without a roll-cage. Had a search but suprisingly found nothing in the forums. I think it would be awesome to have SAUVic in-car footage of tackling the twisties without getting sick from watching the videos.

I found a cheap and nasty made in china one on ebay that looks like it will do the job

Anyone have something similar? I am kinda worried that the continuous suction and violent G-forces will damage my dashboard. I really wouldn't want to put it on the windows outside.

Cheers (sorry for similar post in gen. auto forum - but I need to order it soon to make it in time for the GOR cruise).

I got a setup from http://www.videocraft.com.au/ - it clamps onto the head restraint uprights.

I guess you could borrow it to see if it is suitable.

Thanks. The website shows some really expensive mounts, eg., costs $80 to RENT per day.

How much did your mount cost? If it costs too much, don't worry about it. My budget was only around $50 anyway.

Hmmm... had my doubts about whether that cheapo one would actually work.

Realistically the only place you can mount it inside is on the dash, as the camera needs to be upright and there is no swivel arm to hang it upside down/sideways. Tried using the suction mount for my GPS unit, which works similarly, on my dashboard and failed miserably. The suckers work well on glass, but not dashboards. Unable to get a good seal. That rules out that one.

Need to find one from somewhere that I can suction to the windscreen from the inside, and has an arm so that the camera can be oriented the right way up.

Actually, might have found the answer.

$18 to Gorillapod the videocamera to the holes in the top of the passenger recaro seat. Anyone try this before? Is it stable enough?

I don't recall how much it cost, but money was no object at the time.

It's costing you nothing to borrow mine. (and it costs you nothing to just check if it will even work for you)

The head is full adjustable in 3 dimensions. It just needs a head restraint post to mount on. Otherwise, go get a suction cup and mount my setup on it.

Its all in the motorsport section

/thread :(

Cheers Ash.

D'oh - just realised from the thread that my HDD camcorder will likely sh*t itself with all the twisties/G forces corrupting its data. Never thought of solid state cards before now.

Cool, thanks mate.

Next time you come to a cruise, would you mind bringing it along so I can have a peek? Are you coming to the GOR cruise?

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
