Save by the Japanese disaster... So :) & :(

So some of you may know I have a 2011 GTR on order and that Ive saved my butt off for the last 4 years to buy one.

Then in January my property at New Farm was kindly bathed by the Brisbane river in a beautiful brown mud bath.

My insurance company RACQ (home insurance, no contents as its a rental property) have decided that they are not paying out on the damages on the basis its not my principle property and that if I were covering home and contents then they would. Needless to say Ive appealed to the various government set up groups to have RACQ re-think their position.

I'm one of thousands of people whom RACQ has turned their back on in this disaster. The property had to be repaired asap, so I spent 135k so far out of my own pocket to get it back to better than ever. New walls, new electrical, new windows, new kitchen, new bathroom. It looks really good and now should yield at least $80 more rent per week. But i had to spend most of my GTR money hoping that RACQ will re-pay me before Nissan calls to say the car is here.

Well they called last Wednesday, to let me know my car will be there by Monday this week. I was shattered and told them the entire story of whats happening. They said "dont worry" we have orders for 7 blue 2011 GTR's (at that dealership) to fill and yours in one of only three to ship before the devastation in Japan. So they are giving my order to the next in line and im being put back on the rear of the line.

So hence buying me time to get RACQ to pay...

In short my disaster which caue me the problems have been saved by a disaster.

Also Nissan were more than happy to refund me the deposit if I needed it, I was really shocked to hear them offer that, they were really good about it. Anyway, my 35 was delivered to its new owner yesterday afternoon and I went down to see it as they invited me to come.

The owner is in his 60's and was delighted to take delivery and was apologetic about my circumstances.

So he is happy, im sad but happy at the same time that I have not lost yet and a big thanks to Nissan for being human.

Fingers crossed i get my pay out before the next GTR's are ready for pickup.

Note: Nissan still dont have a clue when the next vehicles are coming. They said it may be as long as Christmas away. :turned:

Trust me, so not worth it.

i was being sarcastic, but im still standing by my statement of "WOW"

Col that's a full on story... I had no idea that happened to you. Guess things turned out as they were supposed to, at least for now. I'd be devo at the insurance company/companies involved with all this flood crap.

John, in my laser right now I've got a bottle of oil, half a pack of toilet paper, a towel, various shirts, a pair of jeans, a pack of napkins, a roll of double-sided tape, 3?? pairs of sunnies, a repco catalogue...

Oh and a 4x12 speaker cabinet squashed into the back seat ;)

So... what's the weirdest thing people have found in a car they're doing a service on?

Today I found a dinner plate in a Barina. Just one plate. In the passenger footwell...

blow up doll, in a bag, next to the spare tyre

See... that all makes sense for in-car items... but... crockery?!

Where to, dinner and a show?

And you have the added benefit of knowing you'll get a root out her.

You got no f**ken chance with me. I,m fussy.

Many a ship has been lost in that black hole too

when i worked at ford (yes i know) back in 1999

(was an auto elec)

I can think of three situations

1. small bag of pot in a speed camera landcruiser (what was that doing in there?)

2. hand gun under a seat in a fairlane (full gangster car for a 25ish yo bloke)

3. home made porn, photo album full of S&M shit and it was the customer who picked up the car who was in the photos... :D

ps> She was ugly and old

I wouldn't consider the gun to be weird. Doesn't everyone carry a glock 9mm around in their car?

i thought the home made porn was the funniest

cause everyone in the workshop was there when the customer picked her car up to have a look through the window at the service counter...

I don't think I've ever seen a blue R35!

its a new colour in 2011 models

you will cream your jeans for sure when you see one in person, they are seriously beautiful...

its similar to the old R33 4 door "deep blue" colour...

    • Ps i found the below forum and it seems to be the same scenario Im dealing with. Going to check my ECU coolant temp wire tomorrow    From NICOclub forum: s1 RB25det flooding at start up Thu Apr 11, 2013 7:23 am I am completely lost on this. Car ran perfectly fine when I parked it at the end of the year. I took the engine out and painted the engine bay, and put a fuel cell with an inline walbro 255 instead of the in tank unit I had last year. After reinstalling everything, the engine floods when the fuel pump primes. if i pull the fuel pump fuse it'll start, and as soon as I put the fuse back in it starts running ridiculously rich. I checked the tps voltage, and its fine. Cleaned the maf as it had some dust from sitting on a shelf all winter, fuel pressure is correct while running, but wont fire until there is less than 5psi in the lines. The fuel lines are run correctly. I have found a few threads with the same problem but no actual explanation of what fixed it, the threads just ended. Any help would be appreciated. I found the problem though. There was a break in one of the ecu coolant temp sensor wires. Once it was repaired it fired right up with no problems. I would have never thought a non working coolant temp sensor would have caused such an issue.
    • Hi sorry late reply I didnt get a chance to take any pics (my mechanics on the other side of the city) but the plugs were fouled from being too rich. I noticed the MAF wasn't genuine, so I replaced it with a genuine green label unit. I also swapped in a different ignitor, but the issue remains. I've narrowed it down a bit now: - If I unplug and reconnect the fuel lines and install fresh spark plugs, the car starts right up and runs perfectly. Took it around the block with no issues - As soon as I shut it off and try to restart, it won't start again - Fuel pressure while cranking is steady around 40 psi, injectors have good spray, return line is clear, and the FPR vacuum is working. It just seems like it's getting flooded after the first start I unplugged coolant sensors to see if its related to ECU flooding but that didnt make a difference. Im thinking its related to this because this issue only started happening after fixing coolant leaks and replacing the bottom part of the stock manifolds coolant pipe. My mechanic took off the inlet to get to get to do these repairs. My mechanics actually just an old mate who's retired now so ill be taking it to a different mechanic who i know has exp with RBs to see if they find anything. If you have any ideas please send em lll give it a try. Ive tried other things like swapping the injectors, fuel rail, different fuel pressure regs, different ignitor, spark plugs, comp test and MAF but the same issue persists.
    • My return flow is custom and puts the return behind the reo, instead of at the bottom. All my core is in the air flow, rather than losing some of it up behind the reo. I realise that the core really acts more as a spiky heatsink than as a constant rate heat exchanger, and that therefore size is important.... but mine fits everything I needed and wanted without having to cut anything, and that's worth something too. And there won't be a hot patch of core up behind the reo after every hit, releasing heat back into the intake air.
    • There is a really fun solution to this problem, buy a Haltech (or ECU of your choice) and put the MAF in the bin.  I'm assuming your going to want more power in future, so you'll need to get the ECU at some stage. I'd put the new MAF money towards the new ECU.
    • Any idea where I can get genuine MAF apart from used ones? I can't find any only for GTRs and unfortunately that price is not in my budget 🤣 I might gap my plugs down and put my splitfires in, they were only in for a year or so before I started the rebuild
