Some people like peakey drag suited power

Its a compromise like everything else in this fun game we play. It doesnt matter what someone else thinks of your dyno graph / quart mile times / turbo / haircut / makeup as long as you enjoy your car.

Becuse Sydneykid has posted several times how bad the TD06 turbo is and even at one point said they are off a truck and only good for a truck, I don't like the fact that he does this and wanted to prove a point, I didn't expect him to agree with me I just don't wan him always saying negative things about something he obviously knows little about

LOL if you were gonna have a go at people who talk about stuff they never even touched you'd run out of breath dude. 90% of the stuff in forums is people replaying other peoples "knowledge" and is wrong half the time anyway, why let it get to ya? If your happy with TD06 then who gives a **** what someone else says about it?

After doing work on my car and posting results i got called a lier by the resident "turbo experts" despite having actually done it when in fact they hadnt *shock horror*

Its my impression that the TD06 is perfectly good turbo if you are willing to put up with slightly slower spool. Rebuild costs on a TD06 would probably be a lot cheaper than GTs considering you cant service the GT cores.

Oh, OK Buster, you caught me out, the last 1/10th at Eastern Creek is very slightly uphill. But still within legal tack requirements, I understand. People blame EC traction for poor times (even Ben), but he had a faster 60ft at EC than at Heathcote. On some days the lanes can be quite different though.

Buster asked, "What is the HPI R34 to you?" I am a consulting race engineer, suspension is my specialty, although I do driver training, data logging and analysis. So when Ben says he is chasing a faster time with suspension tuning, who do you think ultimately answers the question?

I have stayed involved in this discussion because it is an opportunity to show that a car with around the same average power is just as fast as a car with higher maximum power (even 10% more isn't enough).

I don't think I can achieve any more than I already have.

Please humour me for one more post then as I don't understand the above comment are you talking about my car being the underpowered car as when I ran the 12.2 it was at 280rwkw

I have never ran the car with the 327rwkw for you to know what it can do I posted that I was at low boost a few times in the previous posts and low boost is 280rwkw

Heres the figures I had at low boost with the power fc

4000 = 96rwkw

5000 = 184rwkw

6000 = 232rwkw

7000 = 270rwkw

Average 195rwkw so really I was making a lot less power

They are the exact figures I ran the 12.2 your comparing, The figures I quoted at the start of the thread are with the factory ecu and I haven't ran at the creek when I've had it in yet, To be honest I think I wuill go back to the factory rechipped ecu as I like its power better

Buster your lastest figures with a TD06-20G shows a max power of of 270 rwkw with an average of 195 rwkw (from 4,000 rpm to 7,000 rpm). My example with a Garrett GT3040 showed a max of 280 rwkw (3.7% higher) with an average of 223 rwkw (14.4% higher). This is, and always has been, exactly my point.

My experience has been that Trust turbos give good max power, but there are other turbos that give the same max power but deliver higher average power in the rpm range I use. That makes them both faster and easier to drive.

Maybe other peoples experiences have been different, but the world would be a very dull place if everone agreed all the time.

Ok I guess the discussion is over but let me point out you chose to not answer any of the questions I asked about what time the HPI R34 ran at EC and which car you were talking about that had less peak power but was as fast

We both know you were talking about one of your cars that kept you in the discussion and has around the same average power but is just as fast as a car with higher maximum power (even 10% more isn't enough) because it was actually my car that had less average and less higher power but managed to be as fast as one of your fully workshop prepped cars you wouldn't like to admit to that though

I guess I will remember this for future discussions if you just choose not to answer any of the questions you can't look bad

My first power figures from the remapped factory ecu are a lot higher on average and at peak then your GT3040 and has not been used at the creek yet for you to be able to show or know how fast it will be so don't bother picking one RPM and saying but down here because as quoted by you in the 1st post Tell me the average power over the useable rpm range, now that's something meaningful.

So for fun why don't we just say my use able rpm range is 4500- 7500rpm (which it is)

4500 = 176rwkw

5500 = 264rwkw

6500 = 312rwkw

7500 = 327rwkw

Average 269rwkw so peak power and average is a lot better then your beloved GT3040 and I find the car very easy to drive on the street because of the suspension set up and tyres I use, now for how fast it is at the Creek we wont know for a couple of weeks but I'm sure I'll let you know

Fair call about 2nd hand prices, but what i paid in indicative of what you would expect to pay for a 2nd hand TD06-20g setup.

I have seen several others kits advertised at a similar price, some including injectors and/or ECUs and/or AFM and/or BOVs and/or dump pipes and filters.

... and this post isnt intended to be antagonistic, whilst i like Garret/HKS/Apexi BB turbos, i respect the fact the Mitsubishi/Trust turbos can knock out some nice numbers/times/enjoyment

When finally having a long hard look at it, if a plain bearing turbo is good enough for the latest of Evo lancers, then...good enough for me.

Evo lancers still use Mitsubishi turbos (from which Trust are based), though im unsure what model of EVO uses titanium turbines. People seem to he happy with the response and power that the the Evos display.

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year. 
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
