Hi Fellas,

My R33 GTST will be tuned soon, I got an RB30 bottom end put on it with a GT3540 0.82

My mechanic is aiming somewhere around 370rwkw mark, however, I do remember somewhere that the Z32 AFM maxes out at like 320 rwkw?

Is this correct?

If so, and it does max out, does this mean I will have to purchase a new ECU and sell my PFC? Or is there a more powerful AFM on the market?

Is that at the engine or at the rear wheels?

Also, is a VH45 AFM bigger and better than the z32? What does that max out at?

I believe the Z32 nengun is selling is the same as the one I got, it's just that Tomei sell them, they are still a genuine nissan part.

Alternatively if you split the inlet to 2 pipes, fit an AFM on both pipes, the air flow through each flow meter will be half, so effectively each one would only need to be rated to half the power output (370/2 = 185kw) Effectively you could get away with 2 RB20/25 AFM which are relatively cheap in comparision.

Since the PFC is now only seeing half the airflow you will have to half the injector sizing to keep your AFR the same.

VH45 AFM would be the easier option

Well I knwo for a fact that's incorrect, when I had my GT2835 Pro S setup, I was making close to 280rwkw and the Z32 was no where near maxing out....

Are your sources credible, where are you obtaining this information from???

Mine was doing 5v at 302rwkw and prior 4.8v at 270rwkw. 444 injectors maxed at 250-260rwkw and needed fuel pressure to get to 300rwkw.

320rwkw with 5.1v. :D

That nengun link - Tomie is just a Z32, 500ps/hp is 'little' over 300rwkw.

I've also seen a Q45 max out earlier than the Z32; not sure what was up with that.

Same dyno the std rb20/25 afm was maxed a little over 180rwkw.

I'm moving away from afm. Looking in to the ViPec 'possibly' there still appears to be a few little niggly's with them though.

Even if the afm is max'd you can still bodgily tune it. The problem is there needs to be a little head room so on those cool nights it doesn't lean out or det.

I know of 2 25's making 330 plus at 4.9 volts with z32's, I've also tried a q45 that maxed at much less power!

forgot to mention they were both running e85, most likely getting a bigger bang for each gulp! it's so tuner friendly it wouldnt matter if the afm maxed out.

I did that and don't really like it. I would at the very least put it in 3.5" pipe instead of 4". It's tough to get to idle correctly, and it's real twitchy at part throttle stuff. We tacked a 2.5" length of intercooler pipe inside the 4" intake pipe around the hot wire and it seemed to help some, but it's still more trouble than it's worth. If you don't want to go MAP, I would look at Ford Lightening MAF's. They also make upgraded MAF's for Lightenings that are supposed to have digital processors and something like 4 or 8 hot wires with a big X in the middle to cut down on turbulence that are good to over 800rwhp that idle like a dream. I'm trying to find them now. Anywho, they are 0-5v hot wire sensors and retail for somewhere around $300 USD IIRC.

This is not right. There are quite a few Z32's with 320RKW + that still use a Single MAF

    • If they can dyno them, get them dyno'd, make sure they're not leaking, and if they look okay on the dyno and are performing relatively well, put them in the car.   If they're leaking oil etc, and you feel so inclined, open them up yourself and see what you can do to fix it. The main thing you're trying to do is replace the parts that perish, like seals. You're not attempting to change the valving. You might even be able to find somewhere that has the Tein parts/rebuild kit if you dig hard.
    • Can you also make sure the invoices on the box (And none exist in the boxes) are below our import duty limits... I jest, there's nothing I need to actually purchase and order in. (Unless you can find me a rear diff carrier, brand new, for stupidly cheap, that is for a Toyota Landcruiser, HZJ105R GXL, 2000 year model...)  
    • Murphy strikes again! Nothing at all would have gone wrong if you had the tool kit in the car! You'd have just found the clamp loose the next time you went to touch it...
    • I have been being VERY quiet about what you're alluding to, as it is something that ticks me off... The number of cars from factory that run coil overs is HUGE! Most of them these days do... The other part that annoys me, is people saying "Well all the incabin adjustable suspension is illegal by blah blah blah"... If that's the case, then why can I buy a car brand new that can do it if, FULL STOP in cabin adjustable suspension is illegal...   Also, I could just chuck some aftermarket shocks in my car, throw the stock springs on, after my blue slip, dump my super low springs back in. Same shock and spring style setup... Hell, they could also be the same colour springs etc.     I'm voting, BlueSlipper didn't want to touch the above car for some reason. Whether it be some sort of bias against the car, the owner, them maybe having previously done dodgy shit and now they're being super careful in case they get slapped in the face by the Gumbyment again... Find a new blueslip place.   And can confirm as you had said, yes there are holy bibles of vehicle heights, and all sorts of other suspension stuff. Heck your run of the mill mechanic, and tyre shop has access to all of that stuff. It's how they do wheel alignments...
    • Funny story Heading to Sydney this morning on the HWY there was some slow traffic, so I gave it the beans and midway through my overtaking "power run" I lost all power It seems that I missed a hose clamp,  and the MAF and filter went WiFi To make this more problematic, the little tool kit that lives in the boot, is sitting in the sun room at Goulburn......LOL Luckily for me I found a bit of steel on the side of the road that could be used like a rusty and bent flat head screw driver to tighten it up enough that it got me into Sydney, it is now all tight like a tiger with the aid of a 8mm socket Note to self: Use my brain and double check stuff, and always keep that little tool kit in the car for when I have a brain fart
