I've finally tracked down my fuel usage problem - the clutch fan is 'sticking' so when the revs go up, so does it - it's louder than the engine at speed! It means I'm always pushing the fan around, even at speeds that it shouldn't be...

I rang around and there doesn't seem to be a third party replacement - and the stock nissan one is $435. Has anyone got a working one who wants to sell it, or know when I can get one cheap?

Ian

I replaced the clutch fan in my R33 GTST a few months ago with an aftermarket product, so they definitely make them for R33's at least. Not sure if the R34 is the same though.

Bought mine from a place called Motor Spares here in Canberra, from memory it cost about $160.

They have a website http://www.motor-spares.com.au and pretty sure they post stuff anywhere.

Give them a call, they might be able to help you out.

OK, this will hopefully be my 2nd last post on this... I hope anyone ever looking for a cluch fan for a r33 or r34 reads it!

I rang a few after market shops, but nobody had one listed for a R34.

I rang nissan and they quoted $435 for a new one

I then rang a few wreckers, and got quotes of $150 to $170, but 'only for a R33'

I rang back nissan, they said (after checking the part numbers) that the R33 one was the SAME as the R34 one.

That was good, as I could get one from a wreckers BUT it might be as old as an early R33! So I didn't really want to risk it..

So I rang back one of 3rd party parts suppliers (http://www.motor-spares.com.au from above) and asked could they send one down from the ACT. Their quick reply was that it came from melbourne from davies craig! (part 5265).

So I rang them (03 9369 1234), and yep they have them in stock - $213 inc gst ie

So after many phone calls and hassles, I'll be buying a new one for not much more than an old one from a wrecker..

Going to get it tomorrow morning, I'll report on how I go with it after I put it in, it will be interesting to see if it fixes my fuel problem.. :-)

did it? And where is it located precisely ? I don't notice any 'roaring noise' when I hit the gas pedal or maybe I do but am assuming it's engine noise?

Just replaced the o2 sensor and AFM and still same shitty 18-20l/100km economy...city driving (lots of stop'n'go) and mostly short trips.

    • You should have got a Maine Coone then. Only thing is they're big. But so cool, and just like a dog. Or, just get yourself a high performance dog. That'll teach you for wanting Parkour indoors 😛
    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
    • That's one of the reasons I got that breed, they look weird, the other reasons are they small, they are very vocal, and run around like they are on crack, I didn't want a breed that just sits around, these two are like kids on red cordial  My daughter has one, and it's a laugh riot, constantly doing Parkour around the house, sits on her shoulder, plays catch, and constantly runs around the house taking turns chasing the dog around, her Bermese though, just lays around with constant bitch face, and just looks on in utter disgust at the cat and dog playing together
    • I'm getting PTSD flashbacks seeing that name again.  With my turbo swift, I got 1,500km of street use on a Jim Berry clutch before it exploded and took out my input shaft with it.
