Hi all

I have a 34 making 230 odd rwkw and it has started to tramp real bad in 1st and sometimes in second.

It has potenza for the street shocks iv never herd of them and imagine their from japan fitted before it was imported.

Whats an easy way to fix this problem. can i just get new shocks for my car?

I'd have to agree. Pineapples in the squat position are the best thing to do. I have also added Unique Autosport diff bushes and have eliminated it all together. Has nothing to do with springs and shocks. I chased that crappy idea for a year before deciding to start at the diff and go from there. Lucky for me that made a huge difference and the pineapples fixed the rest.

Dunno if there is a fulcrum suspension down south. but i just received a quote from them today and part of it was Rear diff pinion mount kit - $61.78c

Dan at elite racing does the whiteline pineapples for about $90ish i think. can also be had from ebay

Mine was tramping a bit before, but not with 250Rwkw its hopeless, its progressively getting worse i think!

With the pinapples that people are recommending, are these the alloy type ones i've seen advertised (Skylinecouple??)

What diff bushes are you guys referring too?

I have the yellow urethane ones but I have often wanted to try the alloy. From my way of thinking the pinapples are designed to change the pinion angle mostly to help the rear end squat or lose traction for your particular motorsport. The alloy ones are for locking the subframe and stop lateral or front to rear movement when cornering, stopping or accellerating. I had an idea where I could put the required pinapples in to help the car squat and the alloy ones on the other two locating points to stop lateral movement. Take my advice with the diff bushes, I have said this before, NO axle tramp.

skylinecoupe are those diff bushes ur talking about the red ones that go on the 4 mounting positions?

i already have those Bee R pineapples set to traction i still have really bad axle tramp think i might give these diff bushes a try are they hard to put in? im not keen on taking the diff out again i just did that i blew my diff to pieces lol... i get the feeling it was because of axle tramp and maybe because i angled the diff with those pine apples..? if i put these diff bushes in i reckon ill change how i have the pine apples set up and just putt all four on the bottom and see how that goes..

Yes the red ones. They merely replace the originals but are much stiffer and if you already have had diff replacement then you have been flogging the bushes every time you dropped the clutch or accelerate then decelerate. Be carefull because some mechanics are good at convincing you to only put the front ones in but only because they are too lazy to take diff out. Besides, you can do it yourself. Even if you just do the front ones I'll bet there is a difference.

10% of the time it’s tyre pressures, the sidewall flexes and releases. Try pumping the tyres up and see if the axle tramp stops and/or gets less.

5% of the time it’s worn subframe bushes, since you have fitted a rear subframe alignment kit (pineapples) I suspect that isn’t the problem in your case.

25% of the time its drive shaft angle, the car is TOO LOW and the angle of the universal joints are winding up the drive shafts. If your car is lower than 345 mm centre of wheel to guard on the rear, then try raising it up.

60% of the time it’s incorrectly matched spring and shock damper rates. The rebound (extension) damping is not sufficient to control the oscillations of the springs. Standard springs with worn shocks get this problem. BRAND NEW aftermarket coil overs get this problem where the spring rate is too high for the shocks to control.

Once you have eliminated 1, 2 and 3, then your problem is #4

This is exactly the type of nonsense I'm talking about. Start with a solid diff that has had the bushes flogged out of it over 10 or even 15 years and work your way out. Stop following the same old advice. Sydney kid is right of course but only if you have the diff tied down tight in the first place. Did the Skylines have bad axel tramp when they let the factory ? No, they didn't. So if a brand new car with soft suspension didn't why would the same car with more pwer to spin the wheels and better (stiffer) suspension have teeth rattling tramp now !

    • Thank you, 100% the intent. New coils were due and the 17" sixers look/feel loads better than the stock wheels. The aero options are so spot on.   Thanks for the warm welcome, all!
    • 98 r34 gtt Been rocking my latest setup and car running like never before. Have put a good 200 miles on it since all the latest changes and additions. everything is dialed in and have been driving it a bunch.   However, all a sudden last weekend as soon as I pushed throttle passed 4k and the engine stumbles, (slow or fast acceleration) hesitates and doesn’t go above 4100 or so, like a misfire. Everything else seems fine. I had a “good” set of coil packs that I removed from car when I first got it when I changed them over to new coils. I swapped out current ones for those, but no change. I also changed the plugs, no change. Seems to rev over 4 when out of gear with no load just fine no “misfire”, but as soon as its in gear with a load of any kind, it “misfires” as soon as rpm drop back below 4 k it runs perfectly, smooth, starts, restarts and drives fine as long as I keep it below 4 k while in gear. All readings look fine, no CEL   Any idea as to what could all a sudden cause an issue when pushing rpms passed 4 k?
    • When you say your cams are 272/262 is that 272in and 262ex?
    • We're arguing semantics. I am saying 45 accel and a 55 deccel ramp are "2 ways". Even a 45 degree ramp and an 89 degree ramp is "2 ways", because it is literally... two ways. The cusco 55/30 ramp is a 2 way. It's two ways. I get it though - in normal nomenclature a "2 way" would be 45/45 or 55/55 or 60/60 i.e the same locking in both directions. And something like 45/65 would be considered "1.5 way". I would then say if we're getting into the nitty gritty then every locking diff is a "2 way" diff and we should not speak in 1.5, or 2 ways but ramp angles instead. Which ofc if one of those ramp angles is 90deg, that side is not doing any locking. :p So Nismo don't obviously sell 3 things. The fact of the matter that they only sell two items really goes to show that there's a 2 way and a "1,5 way" which is really a 1 way. I believe the actual lockup for the 'adjustability' of the GT pro is really just setting preload for when the ramps actually start locking up. It's not changing how much 'wayness' there is. It is (somehow) horribly explained. People just buy whatever diff and go "locks up good bruh" and that's what ends up on socials forever.
