best alarm = a 200lb junk yard dog , movement sensing 50 caliber on a turret

jaycar ? watchguard for DIY?

some cost a fair bit and still wont stop intruders

I always wanted a moat filled with crocodiles and a drawbridge

I was serious, a big dog will stop crims before they break in, they dont want to tangle with a dog ?

DIY go to bunnings, they sell decent alarms for a few hundred, takes a few hours to install

or jaycar can get you some nice toys for security setups on the cheap

just because its monitored doesnt mean it will stop a crim. they respond so slow most of the time its pointless

Most people don't take notice of alarms, so unless it's monitored there isn't that much point. Might be a deterrent though.

What you need to do is make it difficult or near impossible to get in by using things like roller shutters on windows and security screen doors in front of solid timber doors that have nice locks like 001's. The more difficult you make it the more likely they are to go elsewhere like down the street looking for an easier target

kietz give ADT a call mate they do monitored alarm for homes

i got one and the cops or the patrol will come out within 10mins of the alarm being triggered off and its all hardwired etc...

When in doubt

Do what I'm doing:

Set up an alarm system that alerts your mobile as well as the monitoring security service (the smaller companies respond quicker than the bigger ones). Hidden cameras recording to HD on a dedicated PC, which can also be accessed at work via the web. Roller shutters on all windows helps too :P

some thread titles you just know are going to be filled with jokes :P

dog prob the best ill prob invest in 1 soon but there not full proof, maybe stay at home 24 7 an option

Well a big katana worked for me but thats not to say its foolproof ;P

I'd get a 7 foot fence, automated gates, motion sensor security lights, computer controlled rollerwindows, and rollerdoor for the car, a metal security door and a steel main door with a 6 pin deadlock, a big dog called brutus, motion sensor sentry guns like in the movie aliens, electrified razor wire, a moat filled with acid, laser guided intercontinental ballistic missiles with multiple independant re-entry vehicles with resolution up to the square foot, a naval quality railgun powered by my own nuclear reactor, ablative armour on the walls and roof, landmines under every square foot of lawn and razor blades attached to the branches of foliage, 240 volts rigged up to the metal parts of the house etc etc

yeah it'd cost a bit but they'd think twice... you'd hope...

EDIT - And when I'm feeling really insecure, I take to the air in a helicopter gunship.

Now we're talking!!!! And I thought the oval office was going to be a motherf**ker to get into.....

move into my hood. people think you more likely to get broken into here.

But just think robbers have cars(if they dont they steal em) and who you wanna take chances and f with in their own home? rich pretty boy from some sheltered suburb or gheto mofo that prob has a knife collection in his room.

We ahve a winner here!!

at least with good camera footage you can hand it too police and its hard proof for your insurance company..

You can also get good locks with fingerprint recognition, for a reasonable price, so you don't have to carry keys and the lock can't be picked..

    • Hang on. Let me get this straight. The desire is to have coilovers, BC in particular, to be MORE comfortable on Sydney roads than stock suspension? Well, that's obviously not right. BCs have crude damping design at the very best, and typically hard spring rates. BC stands for Billy Cart. And then, the desire is to put in some shitty old worn out stockers, to get it blue slipped and then put the BCs back in? And then.....what? Not worry about getting pulled up by the Plod? Because you seem to have raised a worry about paying for engineering (which actually does solve all your legality problems) and still getting pulled up.... but the only problem there is that if/when that happens you have to show your paperwork at the inspection station. Whereas, if you just swap in borrowed shitty old stockers to get it slipped now, and then you get defected in the future, you have to go find more shitty old stockers then too. You course of action looks like this set of options: Buy brand new stock type dampers, and springs. probably cost a bit more than $1k all up, but will last for the remaining life of the car. Put them in, pass inspection, drive on them forever more. Hell, they could even be really nice Bilsteins and Kings or other lower&stiffer springs if you wanted. Get the car engineered as is. ~$1k. Buy new Shockworks coilvers (or MCA) and also pay for engineering. You're spending a lot more here. But these will be the best things that you could drive around on.
    • Might be worthwhile hitting up Facebook's groups, I know most of them contain terrible people and scammers - however you might be able to find someone that's in Sydney with factory suspension you could purchase and/or hire. Just do not send any form of money anywhere, in person cash only.
    • Thanks @Duncan Ride height is fine. I think it's almost stock tbh. Happy to share a pic. I don't actually have a regular mechanic as haven't lived in Sydney too long. Could you or anyone recommend any shops in Sydney?
    • You just need a different blue slip shop (preferably one you regularly use as a mechanic), and make sure the coil overs are as close as possible to standard height
    • yeah the sugar refining companies were pushing for the same in Oz originally, all fuels were going to have 10% ethanol to make them "cheaper" (noting, that the loss in l/100 might be greater than the decrease in price). I guess they won that fight in Canadia
