Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone could give me decent suggestions on what to do about my situation, basically Im 18 and just got my red ps. I know I'm not suppose to drive a turbocharged car but my dad has given me his R33 skyline gts-t as he cannot drive anymore.

I can't really sell the skyline as it will lose alot of value and at the monment I can't afford another car. I live in rural area where there is no other transport and I live with my elderly dad who occasionally needs to be driven to the hospital. Has anyone got any Ideas on what I should do? I can't really afford to lose my licence either for driving a car im not suppose to. Ive heard that there are exemptions for situations like this but im not sure

Buy a crappy runaround and use that instead. (Note i didnt say sell the r33, if you're in a rural area you could just store it somewhere. R33 GTST's are all losing money right now and they'll never appreciate in value anyway so just keep it and have something to look forward to when you get off your P plates)

i personally would do the right thing just to be on the safe side....

not worth going through the consequences. you could always buy it in a few years time when it is alot cheaper

Easy, under your circumstances id at least try and apply for an exemption. They can only say no, and if thats the case...

Buy one of these:

Store the 33 and get it once your off your P's.

Get a corolla man... ull love it.

Buy a tow car (commawhore or simular) and trailer, drive your tow car around and put the 33 on a trailer and come to trackdays/driver training, you dont have to go stupid fast, just get it out and have some fun.

My 2 cents.

Buy a old diesel cab chassis LandCruiser and put a crate on the back of it. You know, something in between waist and shoulder hight and good for leaning on and holding onto :D

The R33 is going to depreciate weather you sell it now or later so it doesn't really matter. I would keep it if it was exactly the way I wanted it (for me this would mean as stock as possible and immaculate condition, you may see things differently). If it wasn't the way I wanted it I would sell up and buy either the aforementioned LandCruiser or a Subaru of some description.

Then again, it would be good to see some fellow Riceliners when I go on epic treks to the bush :P

Apply for an exemption. Read the following though:

An exemption may be granted to:

A country driver who requires the use of eight or more cylinder Four Wheel Drive (4WD V8) vehicles if there is no practical alternatives

A person who can prove they owned the prohibited vehicle prior to 11 July 2005 or before an interstate/overseas licence transfer (attach proof of acquisition).

Note, only a provisional who has never held a NSW licence before his/her licence transfer can apply for this exemption

A person who can demonstrate any other exceptional circumstance, (attach any information necessary to support your exemption request).

An exemption from the prohibited vehicle condition will not be granted simply on the basis that the only vehicle available in a household is a prohibited vehicle.

----

Obviously in your case, you might get in under the "eceptional circumstance". If your dad is sick or whatever and needs a lift to the hospital every so often, i would be getting a letter from a doctor to support this, especially outlining that YOU are the only one or main person who needs to drive him, and then attaching the proof that the R33 is the only car in the family that can be driven.

If you have another family member at the same address with a non-prohibited vehicle, you have very little to no chance.

Here is the application form:

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/downlo...mption_dl1.html

FYI, it costs $30 to apply for the exemption, and you don't get it back if you get denied.

Hope that helps. All the best with it.

    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
    • I checked spark on all cylinders and they all visually have spark with the plug pulled and grounded, but plug 1 is the only one that fouled. This was a running swap that blew up and was rebuilt by a machine shop, put a new wiring specialties harness and did all gaskets, studs, and bolts while it was out.  compression is 135-150 across all cylinders. Aside from that from my understanding with the z32 ecu and maf the car should start regardless. The wiring for TPS and the dual 02 sensor/ dual knock sensor stuff shouldn’t actually stop the car from starting or even running well, (just slightly rich)  they just give fault codes. Car supposedly is supposed to start as long as you have z32 afm and ecu with the nistune base map and that’s info coming from a well known and trusted tuner who does a lot with SR/RB (Rsenthalpy). After more trouble shooting today where I’m at right now is that the cas is sending signal to the injectors they click while spinning the rotor, Fuel pressure is now set at 43psi, all cylinders have good compression and all of the plugs looked great (just wet with fuel) except for cylinder 1 which was very black (cylinder 1 has 150psi compression). all of the coils generate spark if pulled out and grounded out on the head. On the fuel pump car just pops into the exhaust. On starting fluid car will fire off. Hard to tell if all cylinders are firing off but definitley a couple. sounds like all of them but it’s only for 3-5 seconds hard to tell.
