the only thing I'll miss out on is CAMS NSW race series in 3D but I don't have 200k a year to be competitive there anyway

Well that's the thing...

I wouldn't be looking to door-to-door race this thing just yet (I don't have the skill or the money), but I would love to enter the NSW State Supersprints...

Going by the last round at OP GP, the fastest 3D car was a Torana SS that did 1:21.

The fastest Category 3 car was a Civic that did 1:20.

Should be pretty easy with a well sorted GTR to take out the 3D class, and even the whole category? ..................... or am I off with the fairies?

id dare say you would be competative, im with you, not sure on door to door stuff, especially after seeing some of Duncans footage....

lol I have not put up any of the bad stuff yet. You should see some of the old daewoo fotoage.

but 95% of track only cars don't do door to door racing so you're not alone. go the rb30 and just don't put big badges on the back, they would never pick it.

And yes, the majority of the state supersprint field are pretty slow. That's why Neil and Michelle caused such a stir when they brought quick and legal cars along. I remember the first day I ran my GTR about 6 years ago it was stock off the boat, only lasted 3 sessions before it spun a bearing, but still took out the class.

Door to door is messy and probably not a good idea in a really nice clean car.

Mines done a few sprints with no damage and two race meets with missing mirrors and tire marks.

Thats racing for you though.

Actually Duncan MRA is next weekend at oran park.

Maybe he was interested inhow MRA went on sat???

Maybe he is interested that Chris is going to put a forklift engine in his car and stay on the right side of the force.

Maybe he is just interested in trying to find out which forum he has to post in x times before he can send mass spam pms to everyone about some russian porn site

Merli, I was looking at the same thing with the NSW Supersprint Championships. I thought 1:20 around Oran GP was achievable in my SR20DET powered Silvia and I would have a good chance at fighting for a class win.

However, after I entered my car into 3D, the organisers contacted every turbo car in the series and said "cars running more than the standard boost pressure are required to run a restrictor."

As my car runs 13-14psi, I had the choice of either fitting a restrictor or going to another class - which was 4D = Sports sedans with full aero running slicks!!!! :(

I'll cut and paste the points raised in the letter sent to us turbo entrants.

Type 3 is a little more complicated and is based on CAMS Group 3J

Improved Production Car rules. A restrictor must be fiited to the

turbo UNLESS the turbo comes in the car as standard AND if any

one or more of the following five (5) matters does occur: -

1. Any component associated with the induction system is

modified.

2. There are additional components fitted to the induction system.

3. The turbo boost and/or the compression ratio is increased.

4. The engine capacity of the car is increased by more than 2%.

5. A boost monitor has not been fitted.

Just turn the boost down then.....

I'm not surprised it's required, the 3E (production) and 3J (improved production) require those 5 points, except 3J allows free boost if you run a restrictor. 3D (sports sedans) is the only category with free boost

Yeah, thought about turning the boost down, but would also have to remove any induction mods like bigger intercooler, piping, pod filter etc.. Basically would need to return the engine to stock standard.

If I could get away with only having to turn the boost down and removing the boost controller I might consider it and see how much slower I go.......

But I need all the help I can get! 147kw's at the flywheel would make me look really slow!!!! hahahaha!!

Sorry..... what?

Are you saying that you logbooked your car as 3D (Sports Sedans), and entered the Supersprints, and the organisers told you that your 3D logbooked car must run standard boost?!?!?! :P:(

I can understand the other Category 3 classes (3J, 3E and so on) being boost restricted, but 3D is pretty much "everything is free".

Just need to clarify we are talking about the same thing. I'm talking about type/class 3D.

In the Supp Reg's you have to nominate a Type and Class.

Type 1 - stock road registered cars

Type 2 - slightly modified road registered cars

Type 3 - More modified than type 2 road cars and unregistered cars including 3J improved production

Type 4 - Sports Sedans and other cars exceeding type 3 mods.

Type SV - Kit cars, imports other road registered cars, clubmans etc..

Then you have to choose class

A 0-1600cc

B 1601-2000cc

C 2001-3000cc

D 3001cc & above

E Clubmans & replicas running on slicks

I was a little niave log booking my car as a 3J improved production without a restrictor.

From the above types/classes, a car log booked as 3D (sports sedan) comes under type 4.

Yeah.... Not sure we're talking about the same thing?

In this thread, everyone has so far been talking about CAMS Category 3, Class D - Also known as "3D Sports Sedans".

The full listing of CAMS Category 3 classes here:

http://www.camsmanual.com.au/02_race.asp#3rd

Here are the sup regs for Class 3D:

RA22_Group_3D_Sports_Sedans_Q209.pdf

Yeah Andrew they are the circuit racing (and most commonly referred to categories). But in NSW Supersprints and Hillclimbs have similar but distinct rules and classes.

Ohhhhhhhhh!!!! Fark.

Can someone please link me? :P:(

    • Welcome to SAU, what are you looking at buying?
    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
