just gluing carbon down? the heat in oz , it wont hold up very well

and threads will move or snag. and no pretreatment of plastic parts by sanding or opening up the plastic pores with primer, it wont last

but doing real fiber/epoxy will with UV stabilizers to stop clouding in sunlight(oxidizing like paint jobs only quicker)

Yes, Im doing a extensive list of carbon parts.

a complete carbon fiber boot interior/Ice install with carbon, lexan, fiberglass sub box

modified wing with carbon parts

GTR Vspec 2 style undertrays

front lip and front undertray

lower door panels and tweeter horns

all vents, and many dash parts cover in it. nearly done now

battery tray and cover

cams covers

timing covers

covering the strut bar

pod filter cover with snorkels

radiator shroud

air plate between bar and radiator to cover headlights and direct air

and last but not least, side skirts.....and a NACA bonnet scoop if its not defectable in adelaide to a vent steel bonnet, still checking on that one

some will be covered, some molded, and some original parts created

you can buy the carbon from www.fgi.com.au

but be prepared its really expensive and a simple process to make nice looking parts. it takes time to get the parts looking tops

carbon can run $90-110 per meter same weight/size fiberglass is less then $10

and resin , mold release, colour for resin if needed, wax in styrene ,etc cost a small fortune

near $500 in supplies just to build a sub box to fit under my rear deck for a 12"

photos will come in the next week or so , depending on weather (drying time) and time to complete

but looks so cool and lightweight.strong

Nice, that's a pretty extensive amount of carbon! I had not even considered half of the products you're customizing. It'll be awesome to see some pics of it. Thanks for the info, it does seem like quite an undertaking but the result seems worth it.

The stuff is usually not available to the general public, but I can get as much of the carbon fabric as you need from my work. I work at a company that cooks resins which also owns a sub-company that distributes fibreglass materials, carbon fibre and even Kelvar (which Ive made knife-proof vests from), who supplies all the major companies involving with body kits, swimming pools and boats etc.

I assume you are intending to use the 'wet' method which is very similar to working with traditional fibreglass moulding etc. looking at the website you referred to, I have myself done this type of cosmetic upgrades and personally...

THIS GUY HAS ONLY HALF BAKED IT !!!! What you are meant to do after you 'glued' the fabric to the interior panels is to coat it with clear epoxy resin OR 2-pak clear with a light coat, let it cure, rub it back a bit with fine wet/dry paper like 1200-1800 grade to get rid of any ripples and impefections, then recoat it with a thinner flowcoat !! The trick is not to have any pockets of air trapped in between the coats.....That way, the end result will be like carbon bonnets etc etc.... nice n glossy !! I can also get the epoxy as well.

If youre gonna do this, might as well do it properly and make sure she doesnt bubble up and peel off after a few months.

Personally, Im about to do the roof of my R33 and / or even the doors, boot, the GTR wing, side skirts.... it's endless...

Im in the Blacktown area which is about 30 mins from where you are

Give me a yell if you are keen and we can work something out.....be warned, the fabric is sold by the linear meter and is NOT CHEAP. FOr about $90 - $100, you'll get about 2metres wide by 1metre.

You guys are thinking of the 'dry' technique which is a lot more expensive also the carbon material is also prepared and handled slightly differently. My friend's brother in fact works for Benneton F1 team in the UK and he works in the Carbon fibre section that develops all the aerodynamics components for their cars, some of the stuff he gets into you do indeed need an aeronautical engineering degree to understand.....

The technique Im referring to is the 'wet' technique which is more for the cosmetic purposes..... a much cheaper alternative. Even the carbon fibre bonnets that a lot of us buy are in fact done using the wet technique ..... how do you tell ? Fibreglass shell with just one layer of carbon fabric on top for appearance..... The real stuff used in the 'dry' carbon is many layers of carbon fibre....NO FIBREGLASS !!

For the simple interior panels, the 'wet carbon' technique is sufficient. Just coat the dash panel using black gelcoat or clear epoxy as a 'glue' and lay the fabric on using a small paint roller to press the entire sheet down evenly, wait until it's cured, then carry on using the technique I mentioned above using 2-pac clear or epoxy resin. Youre not doing it for strength but rather for appearance !

Or not... Please pm me

Well isnt it fortunate I work at Valspar (the makers of HOUSE OF KOLOR in the USA) here in Australia and we also own 'FMS' - Fibreglass Materials Services - that supply 70% of the resins/epoxys/gelcoat market here in Oz...... lol What do you need ?

Bahahahaha !

Shameless name droping that ! !

lol , mate I need more of everything, and have ABN as the car is heading for promo/show duties in the future

shoot me a pm with your details please

I'm doing overlays, raw parts and molding new parts people, wet and dry, 100% real carbon, kevlar backed lower lip, arramid glass heat shields, and on some parts fiberglass on one side of composite foam construction, carbon fiber outer.

carbon fiber can ring (high freq. resonate) at high SPL so the innner parts of the sub box are lined in foam core and fiberglass weave, colour dyed epoxy, nearly 25mm thick but stronger then a surfboard.

you dont need a vacuum bag if you do it right, wax on styrene ,extreme care and a heat gun.

more goodies today.lol

4 gauges for audio setup to need a carbon /alloy faceplate for roof mount and relocate sunroof switches in new facia

2 output milli-volts from head unit to amps

1 temp gauge for amps

1 volt gauge for car

all dash lights converted to blue led last week, and these gauges and greddy boost gauge to match

no photos yet, excessive rain and a house roof leak delay..lol

Instead of using Resin and make sure there's no bubble etc etc.

Could I just spray 2-3 layer of clear coat on my carbon fiber center console?

Thanks!

i hope u mean its already carbon fiber, just dull instead of shiny, if so then sure go ahead, if you mean use a can of clear to form/bond the carbon fiber fabric...then lol@u

Just so you guys are aware, the link posted by bones does not show real cf. Those of you who have worked with it will recognise this by the pics in that link. There is no way you can cut such a straight smooth edge and work it around a complex shape and have it hold it's form.

Pulled off the linked thread

Then you get your carbon sheets that they sell very cheap these days,

Its a carbon fiber fabric, and imitates the look of the BMW "Carbon Leather" trim I have in my M and can be optioned in most new BMW M cars,

Here is the 'carbon fibre fabric' for sale on ebay

    • Cheers. Skyline is back on the menu, can’t get rid of it. It’s like a child you don’t want, or herpes
    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
