So some of you guys know I (and some others) love to get into big debates over american hp vs. aussie hp. I do think they can be different (but I will not accept one figure is "better" or more "accurate" than the other.) Many figures that are posted on here from around the world are shot down because they don't match the hp to mph figures you guys have. I have combed the dyno results threads and see no mph stats for a most of the posts. I was wondering if some of the experts could give some hp to mph ballpark figures for different body styles (or weights really). Examples........

R32 GTSt's are around 3000lb?

100mph-110mph = XXXrwhp'ish

110mph-120mph = XXXrwhp'ish

120mph-130mph = XXXrwhp'ish

R33 GTSt's are around 3300lb?

100mph-110mph = XXXrwhp'ish

110mph-120mph = XXXrwhp'ish

120mph-130mph = XXXrwhp'ish

R32 GTR's are around 3300lb?

100mph-110mph = XXXrwhp'ish

110mph-120mph = XXXrwhp'ish

120mph-130mph = XXXrwhp'ish

Also, how would AWD effect that equation? I think a R32 GTR weighs about the same as a R33 GTSt, correct? Would the same mph to hp figure be true? Obviously the E.T.'s are going to vary a lot with all cars depending on suspension, tires, driver, track, etc. For example, my best mph (with a Gtec) has been 127mph in a R32 GTSt. What kind of hp would you guess I'm making (o jeez, I just asked that question. Sorry :banana: )

Again, I'm just looking for broad ballpark estimates, not figures I could hold anybody too.

There is one thing I would like to point out that you have said about suspension, tyres and various other setups that will make the car perform differently, and we don't need an American to have an arguement...we have enough between ourselves lol,

and that is take one engine...Engine = 1000hp, put engine into car A. Car A has a 'no-expense-spared' and no stone unturned approach for the build up. Car A does 8.00 at 180mph. Pull engine out and Put in Car B with less spent and not as many improvements for a completely dedicated drag car, it is driven on the street. Car B does 10.00 at 165mph.

We have a couple of examples of this in Australia where engines are borrowed (and those figures above do not represent any particular one) and the times, and MPH will differ dramatically.

I still maintain that MPH is not an accurate indication of HP but moreso an accurate indication of a cars potential to do a better time and the fact that it's 'setup' may not be perfect.

If you are conserned with mph vs hp. go the extra step and put weight into it too.

Google 1/4 mile calculators from weight, et, and hp and it should give you a close enough answer.

letstorquebhp.com is a good site. You can select from 4wd, rwd to fwd too :)

I would completly agree with that. Example, my times/mph are on drift type Cusco suspension, a factory viscous, 275/40R17 drag radials, and NOT on a prepped track (or any "track" for that matter :) ). I think with a better drag set up (and maybe a driver mod), I would not only have much better E.T.'s, but also a higher mph. I spin completly through 1st and 2nd gears. Glad you like the idea of the thread too :D I was worried it would be recieved as a "how much hp do I have?" post.

Also, R33god if you'll notice I did specify in the post weight (via chassis type) was a must for info.

Im suspect about those to be honest as sometimes they say my car should have made 250rwkw to run 110mph, but i know thats not right :D

For the record i've run the following:

1480kg (3280lb) - i weight in @ 80kg's

220rwkw (296rwhp)

110mph

From what ive understand, thats pretty much spot on the money :(

There is alot of variables that go with each persons car, so i think it would be a good idea to state not only what power and weight of car, but also what tyres and sizes along with ratio of diffs ect. Idealy to build up a diary of info it would be best to use one car,one dyno and one track and driver also performing mods as you go i would think, but im sure you could get some rough power figures v mph

I know you can usually tell from avatars or screen names, but just to get people in the habit, make sure you post body type and/or weight if known. I don't think we need wheel size and gears and stuff. To much clutter for ballpark figures.

Keep it coming guys, good stuff. Maybe what type of dyno used also?

While various things play a part, you can still get a very good idea of where a setup 'should' be roughly with either ET or MPH if you know what car/weight and so on.

Street rubber tends to let the MPH increase a tad, where stickier seems to lower it a bit because you get to the end sooner (due to a nice low 60ft)

Recent case with R33 GTR kid, his MPH was very low for the power he had, turns out he didn't actually have that power due to a leak somewhere and less boost/power that he didnt know about.

So there is very much good merit too it

Yeah and I did a 13.6 @ 109.6 mph with 260rwkw in a 32 GTST.

260rwkw in such a light car would be good for a 115+mph, and deep into the 12s if you keep at it!

yeah mph doesnt seem to get effect greatly by tyres/ratios/60ft time. hp vs weight, you should get pretty damn close to the mph regardless of setup, unless your talking about something rediculous that you have to pedal the whole way down the 1/4

500RWHP Dyno queens are CONSTANTLY shown up on the strip by 300RWHP STREET cars... Purely, as the 500RWHP car has the worlds shittest power delivery...

A laggy motor will show zero lag if launched hard enough at drags and 99% of them wont drop boost between gears either (unless its something that doesnt come on till 6000rpm etc). Maybe a 5th gear roll on yer but from standing start no chance.

I run a t04z and car is hopeless below 4k rpm but at the drags it launches like a rocket and not one hint of lag and the time refects that. Maybe running a gt47 or twin gt3540s or something, but not a 500hp car which is gt35 or t04z territory.

mine weighs 1750kg and does 124.6mph, dyno shows 560rwhp.

    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.      
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
