i phoned my suspension guy about lowering my car today and he told me there's king springs that fit the r33 gtr. I cant find any model numbers or what to look for.

From my understanding the vspec sits 10mm lower but i want to go an extra 30-40mm lower all round. Which ones do i need? low or super low?

Im gonna keep my stock springs for backup if i get a defect so not worried about that. And not intrested in raising and lowering the car which is y im not going for coilovers. And i am on 20inch wheels so got plenty of clearance from the ground. Plus coilovers arent in my budget.

if anyone would have pics of their gtr's with these springs please post them up also.

i wouldnt go lower than lows, especially on standard dampers. they should drop the car by about 20-25mm i think.

personally i think it would be a shame to see someone put super lows in a R33 GTR just to look hektik, GTR's are performance cars, spend the money on a proper suspension setup, a GTR isnt a VN commie. putting superlow kingies in a GTR is like drinking VB at a wedding.

If you want to drop the car by 30mm or more, definitely go Super Lows Kingies as Lows will only drop it by 15-20mm so you won't be able to notice the difference.

There's nothing wrong with King Springs - they are very good if you are only after Street use, however, as the guys said - definitely consider a proper coilcover setup if you want to go track.

Apart from the fact your putting 20 inch tempe rims on a GTR... I think what they are trying to say is your missing the point... Suspension is much more than just the springs... If you just put lowered springs on it the standard shocks will be out its designed window and they also aren't valved for the heavier spring...

So basically with lowered springs and 20in rims you have made your car slower in every way than the a stock one....

People don't put coilovers in so they can go up and down, they put them in so the spring is matched to the shock absorber and its designed to work together so the car handles better....

There is a thread by SK about why not to use lowered springs with the standard shocks. A search should find it, but IIRC it damages the shock, the lower you go the more risk. If you're going to lower a lot you really need to get coilovers. A few other things to consider when you a lower;

- You'll need to get adjustable arms or bushes to be able to align the car again after you lower it

- You'll probably loose ride comfort (esp with 20in rims...)

- You'll compromise the handling if you go too low

Also almost coilovers are height adjustable, which means you dont have to be stuck with whatever height lowered springs may give you.

and its one thing to do it to a GTS-t, but a GTR? dont know why ud spend an extra 10-15k for the performance of a GTR if ur just gonna ruin the thing with shitty mods.

a GTS maybe... IF THAT.

if you replace the springs, replace the shocks as well, you can get a decent setup with shocks and springs that can actually perform surprisingly well, but coilovers are the best way to go

Not Everybody wants the stiff ride that coilovers offer

With a GTR if you lower it too much it will mess with the 4wd control, same goes for different wheel widths back to front, I am not sure of the specific's, have a search around there's plenty of info on it. I'm using custom king springs on older type apexi adjustable coilover shocks. They were on it when I bought the car but the reason the previous owner went to the king springs was because the apexi spring rates were too high. The springs themselves are very good and I haven't had any issues with them. The reasoning behind using shorter shocks with lowered springs is to make sure the shock is operating in it's optimal/correct range. If you use standard shocks with a shorter spring you'll find over time the car will develop a tendancy to bounce around as the shocks prematurley wear.

on a side note, I just put HSD HR coilovers in my 32 and am very happy with the result and at $1600 there not too expensive either.

i was after different opinions on springs too. not just king.

Your missing the point. All springs are quite similar that are used for lowering.. they are all hot wound which is sh*t but apart from that you can't lower the car at all without getting good quality shock absorbers without destroying the handling. No fancy name brand spring is going to fix the problem. The shock is what does most of the work and is also expensive.

Once you add it up you'll realise its cheaper and better just to do it properly and get good quality coilovers. That way the car which actually handle better not worse..

And yes once you lower the car 30-40mm (which is a lot) whether its with coilovers or lowered springs you are compromising the handling of the car even if you use the best quality coilovers. Cars are at a height for a reason. Nissan don't set it really high because they want it to look stupid...

So with your 30-40mm lower you are going to need rear camber arms (or bushes if your tight) so you don't chew out the inside edges of your tyres and also probably toe arms because again, the standard arms can't cope with that much lowering.

    • So stock ECU does not like anything above 10 psi?  That Nistune one is just for "try" if it will be any different, I know it need to be tune for that. I know but YOU may know about these problem but i/we dont. They few little Skylines here let alone people who know anything about tham so that is why iam asking here  
    • So now we have a radiator with no attachments whatsoever. It lifts up with a particularly tight spot between the drivers side air box mount and the lower radiator outlet, but if you've got this far you will sort that too. This is the lower mounts with the rad out so you can see where the rubber bushes go, it is a straight shot upwards Done! Assembly is the reverse of disassembly, with blood less likely to be shed.
    • Right, onto the second last trick. The Air Con condenser is mounted to the front of the radiator and stays in the car when the radiator is removed. There are 2x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the condenser to the radiator, remove those The bottom of the condenser is attached to the radiator with clips. You need to lift the condenser out of those clips and clear (up, then forward). f**ked if  could work out how to do that last bit with the front bumper on. I hope you can, and you share the trick.  Bumper removal probably deserves its own thread one day once I've recovered the will to live, but basically you need to remove the wheels, front inner guard liners (clips and 10mm headed bolts), the self tapper between the guard and the bumper at the rearmost point of the bumper (same as an R32 that bit), any remaining clips at the top/front of the grill, an absolute bastard design with a plate that holds the top of the bumper above the headlight each side (only 1 bolt which is tricky to get to, but the plate catches 2 places on the bumper and must be removed....carefully!) and push clips between the bumper and guard under the headlight. If you've done all that you will be faced with wiring for the fog lights on both sides and in ADM Q50 RS at least, 4 nasty tight plugs on the driver's side for the ADAS stuff. So, the clips at the bottom look like this on drivers side (looking from the front) And on the passenger side (also from the front), you can see this one is already out Clearance on both of these are super tight; the condenser needs to move up but the upper rad support mount prevents that, and the radiator can't move down far because it is (rubber) mounted. Once you achieve the impossible and drop the condenser off those mounts so it does not stop the rad moving, you are good to go
    • OK, next the shroud needs to come off and there are a couple of tricks. Firstly, there is a loom from near the passenger side headlight to the fans, coolant temp sensor etc and there is no plug to undo.  In my case I was OK to leave the shroud on top of the engine so I just undid the passenger side fan plug and about 10 of the clips which gave enough free wire to put it aside. The fan plugs were super tight, the trick I used was a small falt screwdriver to push down on the release tab, then a larger flat screwdriver to lever the plug out of the fan unit....be careful with how much force you apply! If you need to remove the shroud altogether for some reason you will have to deal with all the plugs (tight) and clips (brittle)....good luck. I removed all of the clips and replaced them with cable ties that I will just cut next time. Also, in the Red Sport / 400R at least, the intake heat exchanger reservoir hose is bolted to the shroud in 2 places with 10mm headed bolts; so remove them (the hose stays in the car; no need to undo it at the t fittings down at the radiator lower mount. Once you've dealt with the HX hose and the wiring loom, there are 3x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the shroud to the radiator; remove those.   The shroud then lifts out of the bottom mounts where it sits on the radiator, up and onto the engine out of the way. Simples
