Hey guys thought i would start a new thread on my car so i can ask all questions/suggestions/comments on one thread.

People interested can follow my progress as i go..

Car is R33 S2.

Mods: (current)

-Split fire coil pack

-Full exhaust

-K&N filter

-Apexi Cooler

-Mines ECU (non programmable)-factory tuned to 12psi-14psi

-Turbo tech manual boost controller

-Greddy blow off

Made 207.8KW at wheels with stock turbo at 12 psi. Since then i ran 14 psi for a bit and blew the turbo. Upgrade here i come!!! Here is dyno chart for those interested:

image026.th.jpg

Installing:

Gt3040 AKA Garrett 3082r(top mount), manifold, external wastegate (40mm)

Aim is 240kw at wheels.-Suggestions? is it possible with this set up running 14psi on this turbo?

image027.th.jpg

Future: Aim 270kw

Power FC, fuel pump, injectors (in no particular order). Suggestions please?

definitely not safe without a bigger fuel pump. that should be much higher on the priority list..

next thing is injectors maxing out... may need adjustable fuel pressure regulator/ new larger injectors to put more fuel into the engine to mix with the larger amount of air pumped in from the bigger turbo.

next thing is afm will be close to its max now, i dont think it would hold up to 240rwkw... so probably need a z32.

Thank you for your inputs.

Its clear that i must get a FUEL PUMP so ill be looking for a 040 pump from now on. Hopefully i find one soon so i can install it while the turbo is getting done, at the same time.

As for injectors, im not sure what to look for? What brand is good enough?

hi

for that turbo you will need

turbo

manifold

external wastegate

exhaust dump pipe changes

powerfc

boost control kit (or elec boost controller)

fuel pump (nismo or 040)

injectors (550cc or GTR might be ok with resistor pack, 550cc is probably easier)

z32 airflow meter

budget around $11k supplied, installed and tuned, no problems with 270rwkw

youll have problems with traction however

the cheaper solution? but a 2nd hand R33 GTST turbo for $300 and be happy with 200rwkw

:D

you might find the 3040 will peak near 290rwkw ish

so its probably too much power for your requirements and budget

as you climb the power band, the cost $ per killowatt expotentially increases

ive had 200rwkw for about 5 years now and i have no issues with most cars on the street

i think ive had probably 2 vl;s and 1 or 2 v8s beat me properly

so you dont need 280rwkw to be quick on the street

for example if you got a hiflow or 2nd hand stocker and

spent some $ - maybe $2k on suspension youll make the quicker and handle heaps better

Okay lets see your list:

I have the following:

turbo-YES

manifold-YES

external wastegate-YES

exhaust dump pipe changes-YES

boost control kit (or elec boost controller)-YES

fuel pump (nismo or 040)-YES, got one today just need to pick it up.

New clutch-YES.

The following i will need:

injectors (550cc or GTR might be ok with resistor pack, 550cc is probably easier)-NO-not yet, looking

z32 airflow meter-Not yet, have to do more research to understand what it does.

powerfc-NOT YET-probably last thing because of tune.

I'm confused, people say you can run 240rwk on a hi flow on 17psi but you cant run 14psi on this turbo with out injectors and pump and z32 airflow meter? Or did i misunderstand that?

My initial plan was to go with these mods: (to achieve 240kw)

-Split fire coil pack

-Full exhaust

-K&N filter

-Apexi Cooler

-Mines ECU (non programmable)-factory tuned to 12psi-14psi

-Turbo tech manual boost controller

-Greddy blow off

-Gt3040 AKA Garrett 3082r(top mount), manifold, external wastegate (40mm)

-040 Fuel pump

-Clutch when this one goes

Basically i was hoping with that set up i would be able to run 240kw on 14 psi, and have room for improvement when i get bored of 240kw.

you might find the 3040 will peak near 290rwkw ish

Yes you are spot on, i had the same experience. But i got raped by every skyline r33 i tried (2). So i they are fast in the same car, i wouldn't mind being a bit quicker too. But yea you are right, to get the upgrades now, its big bucks.

you cant tune the mines computer, all you can do is plonk it on the dyno

and hope the afrs are OK and it runs ok, given you are changing AFMS and injectors, its unlikely

it probably wont even idle - so unless you can find a shop to remap the mines ecu (try dr drift)

your stuck with a probably unsafe tune / unstable or youll have to replace the ecu

your better off changing injectors, AFM and ECU all at once

and getting it tuned once for the most safest power you can make

then use your brains to control the power or turn the boost down

doing a complete tune on one level of PSI, then months later

doing it again on another level of PSI is stupid

or turning up the boost later and hoping for the best (ie, without retune) is also stupid

i dont see why you need a Z32 or injectors..

Im getting 242rwkw with:

Highflow turbo

Mines ECU + Safc

Exhaust

Cooler

Pod

Walbro fuel pump

Shard adj Fuel Reg

Boost controller on 1 bar boost on safe tune..

Hmmmm, interesting. I see you have Shard adj Fuel Reg, do i need it on a big turbo, in you opinion?

ive had 200rwkw for about 5 years now and i have no issues with most cars on the street

i think ive had probably 2 vl;s and 1 or 2 v8s beat me properly

so you dont need 280rwkw to be quick on the street

and just how did you manage to overcome an ~ 80kw difference?

schumacher, is that you?

(seriously though, i would like to know)

Hmmmm, interesting. I see you have Shard adj Fuel Reg, do i need it on a big turbo, in you opinion?

Depends if you want more power later on..

I got use to the power in 2 months.. now i want more..

If you JUST want 240rwkw i say go highflow.. its cheaper..

Oh btw.. Dr Drift did tune my Mines ECU.. =]

Oh and if u get EPA'd, ull be taking the turbo out cos its aftermarket and it looks bigger..

I had no problems with the highflow

I nearly went for hi flow but thought of future wants and needs so i opted for bigger turbo.

So dr drift tuned your ECU, what the rough price for that job?

As for EPA, i know. hehe o well we all take risks.

    • Is anyone running these axles? R32, R33, R34 GTR front Axles. shafts itself rated 950hp. Suit all RB26 engines Croydon, Melbourne, Victoria Would be nice to pay half the cost of Driveshaft Shop Axles. I'm building an AWD S13 Coupe that is very low ride height (high cv angle) compared to stock R32. Has an RB30 with appx 600whp. Just looking for feedback. • Been a long time since r31 got some love, my brother dropped a shitbox ls1 crapadore in my lap to fix up.  Put a wiper motor in as the flooded one was no longer alive.  got windscreen wipers now. Time to clean respray and install back in the titanic  IMG_0505.mov

    • Thread bump, again! Although, no bad news this time. Posting for the sake of possible root cause. Basically, I rebuilt it (mostly stock), installed Haltech + sensors, had it running fine on new ECU.  Still not really understanding why it cracked pistons last time. Got to tuners, and while checking timing, noticed +-10deg of timing scatter while revving. Changed CAS, and it was rock solid. While not definitive, can't imagine seeing 20+ psi with that amount of scatter would be a good thing. Also glad I found something.   Bit more of a run down; Carried out a stock rebuild, a set of stock pistons, out of a spare bottom end. Everything stock apart from head studs and oil restrictors. (so I can pretend I didn't let the Nissan out, ha.) Armed with the measuring gear and FSM, set about doing overhaul. Oil restrictors as per oil control thread for a RB25, stock oil pump, drifting. Head drain/vent from rear of head, to passenger side of sump above oil level. Two dash 10 vent lines from drivers side of sump (unused atm) Hi octane style cam cover breather kit Splash covers over last 2 cam caps. Both breather lines from cam covers to vented to atmosphere catch can, not plumbed back into sump (wanted to see what it was actually breathing). Got it run in (did about a 1000km) no to low boost scenario, As I had questions over old ECU setup. Installed haltech +sensors for flex Retune on E85 (finding CAS Issue along the way), made 300rwkw at 20psi, out of wastegate. Did a drift day the next day (yes, it was a big weekend!) and was checking catch can throughout the day, ZERO blowby. I mean nothing. Lines from cam covers are not even wet. Done a bunch of street driving, spirited and catch can is still dry. Early days I guess, but pretty happy so far. Also now run 10w60, up from the 10w40 that I used to run. Oil pressure is significantly better, especially when hot (as you would expect)
