Looks like Holden is FINALLY entering the 4WD sports coupe arena with a 4WD version of their GTS Monaro.. With some power upgrades, might finally be a bit of a challenger to the GTR:

Wonder whether they'll be allowed to whack them on Mount Panarama next year?

Let the abuse begin!

p.s. i still hate commonwhores, but i just found this of interest.

i have an unreasonable dislike 4 all commodores

i dont have a problem with the car itself, just nearly every1 that drives em is a w****r

"i drive a commodore so this road belongs to me, im gonna tail gate u coz i drive a shiney taxi"

anyway... ur local bogan cant afford 1 of them shiney 4wds give me 95k for a gtr, then we'll see... when will they learn?

Monaro goes 4 wheel drive?

How much would that monstrosity weigh????

I can see the headline now:

"Holden sticks it to the GT-R!!! Well... ...in general overall chassis layout... ...kinda... ... F*CK YOUSE RICERS!!!!"

And the headline that the Holden legal team suggests:

"Monaro goes 4WD, and shakes up the SUV market."

It weighs over 1920kg, is a "luxury all-wheel drive" cruiser. Not a hardcore performance car. I asked the engineers yesterday (trade day) about it and asked if it was STi/Evo/Skyline fighter and they said no,, it's aimed at Audi RS6 or Falcon GT.

And why are all commodore drivers wankers? Just because their automotive needs are different to yours you use childish insults? I'd rather be a wanker than a narrow-minded bigot

hahah thats great ^

seriously i think it looks quite spunky and would perform pretty damn well (dont know monaros quality is as bad as the rest)

but i just cant justify that amount of money for a holden  i think to appeal to the 50k market is fair enough but 100k is just out of their league, just my opinion

power is down from 285kw (VY series2) to 270kw because the drivetrain can't handle any more ATM. Also, it's auto only.

Different weights are being thrown around, but i've heard from more people that it's just over 1800kg - up about 100kg from the std monaro I think. Someone else also said that unlike FWD magna's etc there is not going to be as big a weight penalty by powering all 4 wheels, as the rear drive part is the heaviest.

Yeah, I've driven Crewman and it's like that (doriftu crazy with 245kW V8!). It would fry its rears while the front just pulled it around. Oh so drift-able even as a 2-tonne dual-cab ute!

The system is actually based off ATESSA which is based off the Porsche 959 System (although the 1984 Porsche system wasn't as advanced as Nissan's due to it being first designed in the mid 1970s)

sonic you want to pay 100k to get 300kw from a car that is build from the cheapest pieces available??? Not when you can pick up an R34 GTR for 80k.... I don't know why people get so excited when the local guys do something thats been around elsewhere for years. HOLDEN Holes Oil Leaks Dents Engine Noises...

Try insuring a GT-R where i live. I'm 20 so let's see you insure ANY turbo or import.

HSV is more comfortable and docile than R34. Yes i've driven both and I stand by my choice of HSV, it suits my needs as i'm not driving on a race track every day or every month.

GT-R is a beaut car but not my ideal driver. That'd be a 996 Turbo or M3

dude - try insuring the 300kw 100k taxidore, also not cheap.

describe comfort? wallowing around in the corners, sliding in the seat? no you are right the two are different - but give me the GTR any tick of the clock. last time I checked the 996 or M3 wasn't built on the commodore chassis, so I don't get your point about daily driver... my ultimate DD would be the Bently Arnage R or Continental T - fast class.

theres no need to attack him bro, he's made his choice, i'd personally prefer a 33gtr and blow 40k on making unbreakable but he knows what he likes and i respect that

fair nuf, he seems to have driven everything, so thought he'd appreciate the acronim. I've still got a FORD Found On Rubbish Dump... gotta be able to laugh at yourself every now and again.

Yes - I've driven holdens as well, so I'm allowed to poke a bit of fun at them, bout time the 'rice burners' got some back on the local lards...

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
