that's only the basic version, not the collectors edition. and you have to buy a wheel to get it. so while i may be paying $60 more for the game, my total outlay is only $130, not $475

more info revealed at the tokyo game show yesterday.

Here’s a quick overview of what’s been discussed in the TGS 2010 GT5 breakout session:

* Laguna Seca has been completely rebuilt and will return for GT5. Trial Mountain has also been confirmed.

* “Gran Turismo Anywhere” will allow you to manage B-Spec races, right from your computer. You’ll be able to hold B-Spec races with your friends from anywhere in what are called “Remote Races”.

* GT5 will feature a series of special events such as the Karting Experience, the AMG driving school, The Stig Challenge, Jeff Gordon NASCAR School, Sebastien Loeb Rally Challenge, and Gran Turismo Rally.

* Point-to-point rally stages will be automatically and randomly generated – you’ll have to depend on your co-driver to give you the best instructions about the road ahead.

* Rally mode can be played either on or offline.

* Weather changes include temperature differences, air pressure changes, and humidity, affecting the surface conditions of the track dynamically.

* Weather conditions are randomized. Forecasts for your race will be available but may not be entirely accurate, just like the real world.

* Polyphony Digital has helped Red Bull Racing’s Adrian Newey design the X1 Concept – an “ultimate” racing car, free of any technical regulations.

* Polyphony Digital has worked to improve engine sounds.

* Yamauchi admits that, in certain situations – such as standing race starts in the rain with 15 other cars on the screen kicking up spray in front of you – the game may not be able to hold 60FPS. Otherwise, it will strive to hold 60FPS as often as possible.

* The Volkswagen Kubelwagen, which has a drive system like the first beetle, and the amphibious Volkswagen Schwimmwagen will be in the game.

* Many things didn’t make the cut in Gran Turismo 5, and work on Gran Turismo 6 has already begun.

they don't have the collectors edition on their site, and i'm guessing it wouldn't be that much cheaper than buying it from a local store once i add on the cost of postage (since postage is $15 and they are only $4 cheaper than shops here for the standard game). and then if there is anything wrong with the game i have to post it back, rather than just driving to where i bought it. and i would get it quicker through my local store.

i'd also hazard a guess that they are losing a few dollars on the game at that price. unless sony has changed the amount of mark up they put on games from back when i worked at a toy shop where a ps2 game that sold for $100 would wholesale at around $70 to $80 from memory.

recently I bought a mybook world edition "white light" as my PS3 was getting full too. This thing is great, you just plug it in to your router and the PS3 detects it straight away and all you do is move your movies into the right file on the my book and then you can view them through the PS3 using the movie options from the main menu! 1TB was only about $180 so it was pretty good value.

Or you can just download a program called PS3 Media Server and your PS3 can read everything off your PC.

Too bad you won't be getting it till Nov 4

ahh, but my EB games guy, knows the sister of the brother who owns a budgy related to the budgy of the daughter of the aunt who knows mister GT5's step son's nephew on his mothers side.

And if he says its Nov 1, then goddam it, its Nov 1!!

I'm gonna check my reciept for a Pizza Hut clause. If its late its free :rofl2:

Yeh it looks very pretty.

What about the important stuff though?

What are the physics like? Can you just rail ride around corners or will the cars actually have some semblance to real car handling traits?

Will the cars slow down when you lift off the throttle?

Will cars suffer actual damage if you hit anything? (i'm not talking about pretty crumpled panels either)

Will tyres actually blow if you don't bring it in for a tyre change or run into something?

Will tyres heat up / cool down depending on how you drive on them?

Is it possible to DNF a race?

Will there be more than 6 cars in a race?

Will the AI have any realistic behaviour or will they just hold their line and slam into you every time you make a legitimate pass?

I'm sure the game will be fun and all, but hardly a simulator by any stretch of the imagination.

Just pre-ordered the $300 edition...

I think I died a little bit on the inside..

same here, i get my license back on the same day of the release. though i wonder if its really worth it for 300? unless i win that merc ;)

first of all, have you played prologue yet? if not then you should as this will give you a bit of an idea as to what the general physics are like, but they have been improved a lot since then.

1: cars will handle reasonably realistically

2:yes you will have damage that will affect performance

3: don't think so

4: possibly

5: i doubt it

6: well considering that prologue has 16 cars in each race, i'd say, definately yes

7: supposed to be much better. they will try and go round you and over take you rather than just punching into you. i know from playing prologue that it is much harder to get faster cars to give you a punt to speed you up when you have a penalty.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
