I thinnk the reason people lost interest after the first show is because they saw that they weren't even trying to make it slightly australian. They just copied it all, word for word. Even had hosts who looked the same. Tall one, short one and one with long hair.

Alot of ozzies are rev heads so here has got to be a big audience out there if a decent local show was made, but when you so blatantly copy TGUK and you only have one hundreth the budget its bound to come out looking like a poor copy of the real thing.

I think maybe we should just be happy with some of the lower budget grassroots style coverage of local motorsport and car modifying scene created by real enthusiasts.

Couldn t Sau help TGA out with a feature on some oz skylines, Im sure there is plenty of people on here who would love to have a person with the IQ of a goldfish attempt to drift their pride and joy into a tree while complaining about the lack of new car smell and excessive value for money of buying an imported car.

:P

I think the falling ratings were always going to happen no matter which host. The honeynoon & novelty is well and truely over. Time for some new schtick! But the nature of the TG "franchise" perhaps means they are stuck where they are. To be frank it looks like a repackaged "Hey Hey It's Saturday" pretending to be a car show (playing soccer with cars, drag racing jet planes etc etc) have they dressed up as women yet, does it have plukka duck? Even the UK show suffers from this variety show disease. Anyway i guess they need to cater to non-car people for ratings, especially in our tiny market. Car people think it's lame, non-car people quickly lose interest.

I actually like the way the UK show mixes it up a little. My least favourite segment is the "star in a reasonably priced car" thing. What a waste of show time.

One thing I dont want to see on TGA is any coverage of skylines etc just because of the already "hoonish" reputation they have in australia. Any review on TGA of any import is never going to be fair or unbiased. Even the now-legendary GTR only gets a mere 5 minutes on there if its lucky...compared to 30 mins for a 30+ year old falcon thats hardly quicker than a proton satria. Dont get me wrong - this fits perfectly for most of the australian audience...

Not that I expect any tv presenter to be strictly unbiased, but in australia, the car scene is so narrow-minded that it'd be difficult for them to do a show that was anything but ford & holden... They have to please the fans no matter what, and the facts are that the vast majority of their viewers are ford/holden fans...so their hands are tied to a certain degree.

Thankfully the UK show is back on for now...but if we want the latest episodes we will still need to head to youtube...

One thing we really care about here in Australia is the new versus old. We always quote improvements from one model to the next. A great series would be side by side comparisons of cars as they have improved...then throw in the wild card.

Eg R32, R33, R34 then the R35, have the 0-100, the 1/4 mile and then a hot lap.

You could do the same with the HSV GTS Cars...but throw in a CSV car also to mix it up.

Ford could do their V8 mosters but throw in the F6 as the future of ford.

M3's from BMW but throw in the 335 as a wild card.

At the end of the series you have the best from each Marque in a shoot out. HSV, FORD, BMW, MERC etc etc. Top 10 in a shoot out. Like Wheels performance car of the year...but live (Even include a Joe average as one of the drivers in say the 0 - 100). This could be one segment.

That would get the fans from all brands watching...for bragging rights. You want it done all at the same time in identical conditions, not on some witches hat track done over a 5 month period.

I also would like to see a "scientific" episodes... like effects of drink driving. Get a bomb of a car, full cage etc and then do a series of motor khana tests including slalom, a set track etc. See how times decrease with progressive comsumption of alcohol. You get the laugh of the driver plus the progression of getting pissed.

You could also do the generation game, instead of celebrities you have P plater, 20's, 30's 40's 50's 60's etc....and you run them through a series of driving tests including skid pan, track work, 0-100 etc etc. Once again all at the same time, actually competing.

They need to add something different....maybe these would be a start.

brent 32 has a good point.

from the 1st episode this season i have beem embarrassed. People around the world will see this somehow, and that is embarrassing.

Everytime a car is kicked out, they blab on about drifting. everytime they say drift, it sounds corny and childish :S.

also...attempting to drift a classic ford = FAIL.

cant wait till they air the new TGUK season :(:)

ps, the tguk R35 GTR story was much better overall

If you can't wait just download UK TG & 5thGear from below site......

PS: and if you have nothing better to do even Oz TG can be downloaded from the same site....

those are all fantastic ideas. maybe you need to get some copyrights and go speak to some TGA execs :(

I would definitely watch stuff like that.

    • OK, Step 3, if you need to remove the valve body, either to replace it, the TCM, or to do a more complete drain.  First, you need to disconnect the TCM input wires, they are about half way up the transmission on the drivers side. One plug and the wires are out of the way, but there is also a spring clip that stops the socket from sliding back into the transmission. On my car the spring clip was easy to get, but the socket was really stuck in the o-ring of the transmission housing and took some.....persuasion. You can see both the plug to remove (first) and the spring clip (second) in this pic Incidentally, right next to the plug, you can see where the casting has allowance for a dispstick/filler which Nissan decided not to provide. there is a cap held on with a 6mm head bolt that you can remove to overfill it (AMS recommend a 1.5l overfill). Final step before the big mess, remove the speed sensor that is clipped to the valve body at the rear of the box.  Then removal of the Valve Body. For this the USDM Q50 workshop manual has a critical diagram: There are a billion bolts visible. Almost all of them do not need to be removed, just the 14 shown on the diagram. Even so, I both removed one extra, and didn't check which length bolt came from which location (more on that later....). Again it is worth undoing the 4 corners first, but leaving them a couple of turns in to hold the unit up....gravity is not your friend here and trans oil will be going everywhere. Once the corners are loose but still in remove all the other 10 bolts, then hold the valve body up with 1 hand while removing the final 4. Then, everything just comes free easily, or like in my case you start swearing because that plug is stuck in the casing. Done, the valve body and TCM are out
    • OK, so if you are either going for the bigger fluid change or are changing the valve body which includes the Transmission Control Module (TCM), first you should have both a new gasket 31397-1XJ0A and a torque wrench that can work down to 8Nm (very low, probably a 1/4 drive one). You can probably get by without either, but I really didn't want to pull it all apart together due to a leak. First, you now need that big oil pan. The transmission pan is 450 long x 350 wide, and it will probably leak on all sides, so get ready for a mess. There are 24x 6mm headed bolts holding the pan on. I undid the 2 rear corners, then screwed those bolts back in a couple of turns to let the pan go low at that end, then removed all the middle bolts on each side. Then, undo the front corner bolts slowly while holding the pan up, and 80% of the fluid will head out the rear. From there, remove the remaining bolts and the pan is off. You can see it is still dripping oil absolutely everywhere...it dripped all night.... I got another couple of litres when I removed the pan, and then another few when I removed the valve body - all up another 4l on top of the 3 already dropped in step 1.
    • Yeh I think i'll message an old contact i had for ages that manages his own tyre shop now.. n tell him what i want n work with him before ordering..  Got this 17x9 +30 Driftteks on 245/45/17 PSR Drag Radials on the rear.. They fit well - for your reference in future - Rear guards  have been lipped in & minimal to non flaring of the rear Gaurds.
    • If only it were that easy! I also needed to remove seats, shocks, brake calipers, send my car through a fence, and use measuring and ended up guessing because I didn't remove seats, shocks and brake calipers. It can be hard sometimes Can be a little more complex than 'just measure' if you want to truly measure the entire wheel through all of it's suspension travel. But if you aren't going for every last mm then yeah, you can check the space you currently have and guesstimate.
    • If you own a car, and it has wheels on it, and you know the offset of those wheels, and you have a measuring device, you have everything you need to work out if other wheels will fit.
