Hey guys how are ya's. I recently went in my mates s13, The Geforce felt really strong to mine. Why is this? Like the power was unbelivable.. compared to my 230kws RB25DET in my R33.... is this because its a heavier car? and lighter car?

Just wanted to know your opinois boys...

Has a lot to do with how the power is delivered. The SR20 provides more of a turbocharged 'hit', whereas the RB25 is a lot smoother and more progressive in it's power delivery.

Weight has a bit to do with it also, as does whichever dyno each car was run on so don't take the figures as gospel unless they were both run on the same dyno, on the same day one after the other.

There could be many reasons why the "Geforce felt really strong". When you’re the passenger everything feels different or were you driving the S13?

Big pot 4 cyc, light weight, always going to 'feel' snappier.

Also depends on what turbo each car has and so on.

a ball bearing turbo usually feels more progressive, where a bush it 'all in at once' from my various turbos over the years

as said about are you the driver or the passenger in the S13? as when ever a mate drive my car it feels 10 times quicker than when i drive it and visa vera with there cars.. just a wierd thing that happens i think

Well you know how fast your car is, and you know when you are expecting to give it a hit, your mate might just give it a quick boost before you relise!

anyhoo,

after driving my old r33 with 254rwkw (gtrs turbo)- with truck loads of torque, it felt quick, but as Ash said, not "snappy!"

I then drove s13deviats 210rwkw s13 with s15 turbo, and it came on boost hard and quick. the s13 felt quicker mainly cause of this snappyness, however top end the r33 would just keep pulling hard with no issues of struggle.

now I have around 70rwkw :) so everything else I drive seems like a rocket haha

+1 for passenger seat feeling faster.

never ever been in my passenger seat in my car.

i trusted someone enough to let them have a go with 350kw.....and i always call my mates pussies when they scream.

i can honestly say i havnt been that scared in a while lol.

Thats it! Im going to swap my front seats over then if the passenger seat is faster

Haha

If you’re driving and you put your foot down, you subconsciously brace yourself. Where as if your the passenger it just hits you all at once not being expected. Driver and passenger are two different experiences. Of course how the boost kicks in makes a huge difference as well.

Too true. Quite a few times I've let mates drive my car which I'd say is slow but when I'm the passenger it's a different story. I've also been the mates cars and thought they were complete animals until driving them myself.

+1 to all of the above. Other thing to note is that the r33 would be putting down a higher % of its power down to the ground then the s15, thus making it feel more linear and progressive.

Both cars are an absolute jewel tho!

i drove a s13 putting out less power than my 33 at the time and it felt a fair bit faster, however as far as times over the 1/4 went they were pretty much the same. as people said, it's all about delivery. the sr20 kicks in much harder and faster, where as the rb25 is a bit more like a NA where the power is there from very low so you don't go from having a bit of acceleration to a lot of acceleration in a hit.

back when i had my 180sx (turbo sr20), the missus SSS pulsar (natro sr20) felt (and was) a fair bit faster coming out of most slow corners in second gear. since the stock s13 turbo doesn't really get up and going until close to 4000rpm, the pulsar would just pull away until the 180 came on boost and started to catch up. pulling out of our street and flooring it up the hill, the pulsar pulled much harder below 4000rpm but as the revs got higher you would be waiting for the kick, where as the 180 felt sluggish down low but then felt much quicker up top once the boost kicked in.

Yeah Passenger seat is where it's at.

I let my mate drive my car once from my place to his joint. I backed it out of the garage and put it on the street, and turned the boost down to channel 2 on the EBC which was only 12psi. We drove sedately until the temps got up and then he asked if he could hit it. We were just coming out of a roundabout onto a wide open stretch of road (1 lane each way, but had big parking lanes on each side) and when he stomped it in 2nd I nearly lost my shit. It sorta almost took my breath away, I made him pull over straight away so I could check the boost controller and couldn't f**king believe it when it actually read 12.2psi.

Major difference in the perception of speed and accleration from driver to passenger and I can now understand why people get out of my car shaking.

    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
    • Cats are called Bella, and Donna...  Like that poisonous plant And I remember your 2 monsters, I remember making a little bit of wee when you let them out... LOL I have already installed cat doors into the laundry where their kitty litter is, and the sun room, apart from the cat doors there's not going to be any permanent mounted stuff on the interior walls (interior doors are cheap and easy to replace) I will get a outdoor cat cage thingie once I finish the landscaping out back... https://catnip.com.au/ The only off limit areas are the main bedroom and the gym room....but, currently the cats are curled up in bed, in the main bedroom with the Mrs.....LOL, the off limits for the kittens to the main bedroom lasted about 5 minutes with Jackie I currently only have 1 free standing huge cat tree multiple level scratching post thingie in the lounge room, but, I will be getting another one soon now that I'm happy with the furniture layout in the back room and have a perfect spot for it
    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
