When I started my car late this evening (warm, only off for about 1 minute after having driven), I immediately noticed it appeared to be idling low...couldn't remember the standard ECU idle speed off the top of my head (pretty sure it was 750rpm), but it was sitting around the 550 - 600 mark on the tacho. Also noticed the oil pressure was the lowest I've seen it while the engine is running: it was below the unmarked line between 4 and 0. If I held it at 2000rpm, it would rise to that line, which I assume would be 2?

Knowing my luck, it's nothing/I won't be able to replicate it in the morning, but just curious as to anyone elses opinion on whether this indicates a problem or not.

Thanks once more guys :whistling:

haha yeah I thought it may be the case, but from the very rough reading I could get in the poorly lit carpark, it seemed fine. The oil was last changed just under 2000kms ago, it's not blowing smoke, and the 2 oil leaks it currently has are negligible in this case.

Will go outside and have a look at the level now that it's light....on that note, when the engine is cold and hasn't been running, where should the oil level be? On the VL, it would be sitting halfway covering the "H" for high on the dipstick, though I don't know the sump size etc for the rb25 as compared to the rb30.

I wouldn't worry about it, wait and see if it comes back up later. Don't flog the motor though.

I have greddy oil press gauge and at idle it does 1.5/2, at say 80km/h it does around 3.2 and at 100 it does 3.8. If you go above 3,500-4000rpm it will rocket up to 5.0kg/cm2.

When the car is cold and you start it up, the oil pressure will peak out at 6-7 and then slowly drop as the oil warms up.

I had my std oil pressure gauge sit on <1.0 for about 30km only the other day, the greddy was reading fine/normal. The std gauge corrected its little hick up and read OK after a while.

If you really want to know your oilpressure strap on an aftermarket gauge......its the only way.

Should start out when cold around 4 bar and drop down to 2 bar when at operating temp

4 bar = 58.015 psi COLD engine

2 bar = 29.007 psi at operating temp

well thats the readings for the GTS but the GTS-T may be different with the turbo I am not entirely sure

    • Yep, it was only an option on the Q50 Hybrid.  Same in Japan as far as I know. And doesn't use a centre diff like the Suby's do, so not the same as the WRX.  But it also isn't a reactive AWD like other Nissan AWD vehicles are, eg. Murano/Xtrail/etc.
    • You should have got a Maine Coone then. Only thing is they're big. But so cool, and just like a dog. Or, just get yourself a high performance dog. That'll teach you for wanting Parkour indoors 😛
    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
    • That's one of the reasons I got that breed, they look weird, the other reasons are they small, they are very vocal, and run around like they are on crack, I didn't want a breed that just sits around, these two are like kids on red cordial  My daughter has one, and it's a laugh riot, constantly doing Parkour around the house, sits on her shoulder, plays catch, and constantly runs around the house taking turns chasing the dog around, her Bermese though, just lays around with constant bitch face, and just looks on in utter disgust at the cat and dog playing together
    • I'm getting PTSD flashbacks seeing that name again.  With my turbo swift, I got 1,500km of street use on a Jim Berry clutch before it exploded and took out my input shaft with it.
