Got a white03 coupe inpected by my mechanic today, nothing wrong mechanically but......

There is unusual tyre wear on the inside of all 4 tyres, and when driving this causes a weird noise. Have done a bit of digging and i can see in the US people have been complaining of Feathering/tyre wear on 350z and G35.

has anyone had this issue with their car?

If it has been lowered that would be the very main reason, because lowering the car without installing an offset bush or camber kit would cause the excessive negative camber, causing premature wear on the inside of the tyres....

No it hasn't been lowered. But there is feathering on both front and rear...

u might just need 2 do alignment...mayb the camber wasnt currect

Indeed that could solve it but the front aren't camber adjustable, or am i incorrect?

What i'm trying to verify if this is a "normal" issue with the car and if so anyone has an aftermarket adjustable camber control arms for the front such as the Stillen one that may help to rectify the issue.

As i said in the original question, has anyone here had a similar issue where they see feathering on both the front and rear tyres?

Hrmm no problems from my 03 coupe when it was running stock sussy. Tire wear was right for how it was driven.

Though interestingly, one tire (front passenger) was a bit more worn than others lol...weird.

Ther,

Most likely. Just have a look at the wheels too...if there are big impact marks, then you know the previous owner was probably drifting it or something and smacked it into the gutter bending some sussy arms etc. Doesn't help if they took off the damaged wheels and put the stockers on before selling though.

Why don't you ask the guy for a test drive ? Then say the wheels aren't aligned and get him to align them as part of the sale deal..if it still doesn't drive right after, walk away. Or get an inspection done on it in particular focusing on the underbody and suspension.

One thing is the alignment goes out pretty quick on these cars as they are so heavy.

Oaksey,

I follow what you're saying but when i push the car in left turns, it would wear more on the right and overall, the tire wear should balance out. Ah who knows...i guess i'll find out when i get my next set of tires, it's almost due for them too.

got it inspected by pedders and they said need an alignment and the tyres are crap.... had a drive and so did my mechanic, aprt from the tyre road noise it ok...we had the car up on the hoist and no issues underneath apart from the inside wear of front and rear tyres.

    • There is no difference between a 17x8 and an 18x8. The total diameter of the tyre needs to remain +/- the same (so you don't mess up the gearing, speedo reading, and clearance when turning front wheels..... so you just need to use a lower profile tyre on th 18 than you do on the 17. /rocket surgery.
    • I thought the same to start with. But then I thought it was one of those LCAs where the end of the ARB goes through a bushing in the LCA itself, instead of having an end link.
    • Yeah - I mean, go the other way. Smaller range. Not larger.
    • To re-cap, I bought: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Lsailt-8G-Infiniti-Q50-Q60-2014_1601171829627.html?spm=a2756.trade-list-buyer.0.0.2cd476e9FTIlKE As you can see, if I bought 20 it was $653, but I bought 1 so it was $1,170. I was very tempted to buy 2 and resell 1 at 25% cheaper. @MBS206, I am not sure if they do a Kluger one, here is their list but it might be there under a global model name: http://www.lsailt.com/product/android-interface?page=1 Keep in mind these full android replacements have basically all the bits a phone does (cpu, ram, storage, wifi, bluetooth, usb interfaces) other than a screen (it uses a host), thus the $800+ cost. Android Auto screen mirroring is MUCH cheaper as it's just a cut down shell, input mirroring and output mirroring BTW I also need that "screen off" feature, it is much harder to see wildlife even if a dash is reasonably dark. Both the Fuga and V37 have display off buttons for night use, they just come back on for a second or 3 if you interact with it, eg skip a song.
    • I use FCC car launcher. It has an option for different backgrounds, so instead of turning the screen off you can swipe 'up' to a black screen with no background/icons. (mine has the time on it only). It's kinda nice. Also lets you use gestures to say swipe to go to next song, etc.
