I think we're being as bad as police here. Assuming he was being an idiot, because it was a Skyline.

Remember, innocent until proven guilty.

I've left some rubber on the kerbs on wet days where I've looked away from a straight road for "two seconds", and no, not in any HPVs

I disagree about there being "more than enough" facilities in Perth or WA to drive a car outside of its design.

We have one drag strip and one track. On opposite sides of the city.

Motorplex launch a drag every 60 seconds, but look at how many cars rock up most nights, you don't exactly get alot of runs.

Barbagallo puts alot of people off entering drift practice because of its fees, and need of a CAMS license, as well as the other shit you need just to go for a quick slide. Yeah, safety is a first, but there's no denying, all those costs add up, and unless you have a decent income, its out of the picture. By the time you drive to Collie, you're already down, you still need to be nice to your pig, unless you want to fork out more cash and time to have it towed all the way back to Perth.

Im also completely against driving like a wanker on public roads, especially in city limits, but at the end of the day, knowing how much easier it is to drop 2nd into a corner or drag a car off a green light, its tempting not to, rather than put in the effort to do it legally.

There's a lot of things that I'd like to do that are out of reach of my income level, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to jeopardise the safety of my passengers, pedestrians, or other motorists to use the streets as my own personal raceway to be able to do what I want.

If you can't afford it, stiff shit, deal with it. Lives are not worth the risk and the sooner people learn this the better.

Ask anyone who's killed someone through this type of stupidity and see if they'll do it again. If you don't know the answer to that, you're beyond help and more than likely part of the problem.

$15 is just enough to get you a drink , burger n chips at those tracks .. So no you wont get track time for $15

Lies. You won't be able to get chips aswell on that budget :P

Anyway, I think this thread about this tragic incident has blown well and truly off topic (which should have been only to offer your best wishes) and would be doing nothing but bringing further pain to the victims, their family and friends.

Bubba, Whilst I totally agree that our best wishes are with the victims and there families, I do see this as a good reminder to everyone the consequneces of driving fast cars (whether they were speeding or not), and trying to encourage more people to particitpate in safe driving, and learning how to better handle there cars. I'm sure the families of those involved would want others to reflect on what has happened.

Sorry if you feel the discussion is negative towards this driver and the family. Its not the intention!

We do not have the full facts of the incident so no one can comment on what, why or how of the accident.

Regardless of what did take place, im sure everyone here wishes the driver all the very best and full recovery.

I know it's not the intention and I do not know the people involved at all, but some of the comments have been completely inappropriate and the thread has now degenerated into a topic that has been widely discussed many times in other threads.

I wasn't saying delete the thread, but more trying to avoid further inappropriate comments (which are sure to ensue if it remains open). Just my 2c :P

i totally agree with what your saying, the only problem is its not just 'fast cars' i found out 1st hand on the w/e. when a stupid bitch speeding down orrong rd ran red light hit me and yes she blew over the limit but the she only going to see the consequences now that she has to pay for my repairs coz her insurance doesnt cover her coz she was charged with dd. I think Perth has some really bad drivers and its not just people driving hpv that need to participate in safe driving etc etc she was driving a frigin lancer.

was it fully sick?

seriously that is a good example of drink driver>hoon. derp

+1

Best wishes to them and their familys. I hope they have a hasty recovery.

Whilst there is angst and suspicion, car enthusiasts and car communities has a whole will only experience a worstening relationship with our respective law-enforcement bodies. Break down the barriers, open up some dialogue, and we can at least try.

Chucking a burnout in front of government house giving them pollies the finger would be like walking up to Hitler and telling him you like jews (not that that is a bad thing), but you know what I'm saying, it would not give you the desired effect, but the opposite. It is something that troubles not only SAUWA (or even SAU for that matter), it is a matter of concern for all car/motoring clubs/communities and bodies country wide, we all are in desperate need of an adequate conduit of communication to get our message across (to the media/government ectect). In the mean time, all of us, young and old, need to pull our heads in and keep them there. It is a point I will raise at a club meeting when it comes around.

Could not agree more ! Well said.

I've almost been airborn at one of the rail crossings on haddrill once, and that was in a stock magna at 10kph below the 70kph speed limit. I can only imagine how slow one would have to go over them with coilovers or similar.

Best wishes to them both, good to hear they're recovering well.

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
    • By "reverse flow", do you mean "return flow"? Being the IC having a return pipe back behind the bumper reo, or similar? If so... I am currently making ~250 rwkW on a Neo at ~17-18 psi. With a return flow. There's nothing to indicate that it is costing me a lot of power at this level, and I would be surprised if I could not push it harder. True, I have not measured pressure drop across it or IAT changes, but the car does not seem upset about it in any way. I won't be bothering to look into it unless it starts giving trouble or doesn't respond to boost increases when I next put it on the dyno. FWIW, it was tuned with the boost controller off, so achieving ~15-16 psi on the wastegate spring alone, and it is noticeably quicker with the boost controller on and yielding a couple of extra pounds. Hence why I think it is doing OK. So, no, I would not arbitrarily say that return flows are restrictive. Yes, they are certainly restrictive if you're aiming for higher power levels. But I also think that the happy place for a street car is <300 rwkW anyway, so I'm not going to be aiming for power levels that would require me to change the inlet pipework. My car looks very stock, even though everything is different. The turbo and inlet pipes all look stock and run in the stock locations, The airbox looks stock (apart from the inlet being opened up). The turbo looks stock, because it's in the stock location, is the stock housings and can't really be seen anyway. It makes enough power to be good to drive, but won't raise eyebrows if I ever f**k up enough for the cops to lift the bonnet.
    • There is a guy who said he can weld me piping without having to cut chassis, maybe I do that ? Or do I just go reverse flow but isn’t reverse flow very limited once again?
    • I haven’t yet cut the chassis, maybe I switch to a reverse flow. I’ve got the Intercooler mounted as I already had it but not cut yet. Might have to speak to an engineer
    • Yes that’s another issue, I always have a front mount, plus will be turbo plus intake will big hasstle. I’ve been told if it looks stock they’re fine with it by a couple others who have done it ahahaha.    I know @Kinkstaah said the stock gtt airbox is limiting but I might just have to do that to avoid a defect so it atleast looks legit. Or an enclosed pod so it’s hidden away and feed air from the snorkel and below Intercooler holes like kinstaah mentioned. Hmm what to do
