Black cluster. (S1)

No dimmer control. Lights piss weak.

In my R30 you can control the power windows AFTER the ignition has been turned off. That was the crowning glory of the R30 and why I have had four of them and still have two.

Arm ripping location of oil filter. Now have relocation.

Apart from the above the Stagea is PERFECT.

i take it this is going to be similar to the good bits thread?

if so:

The STUPID top facing intake manifold - Lets make the most basic of all service procedures take 15 times longer.

The plastic bung in the rad that requires a screwdriver to open *facepalm*

S1 auto not tiptronic

all turbo's across the range C34/M35 should have been garrett gt3076-spec from factory

S1 ecu modifiable without the need for a 48pin-84pin chip adapter to house the remaped chip

S1 and S2 should have had silvia s15 JDM 450/480cc injectors standard

S1 and S2 swaybars should have been thicker

think thats about it, along with the above comments

Yep Tangles but was thinking more along the lines of generalities in design, rather than performance.

If you throw ten grand at a Stag it will go like a 911, but the effin windows still wont close unless you turn the key on.

Why did Mr Nissan do away with this feature?????

I know, and I still reckon the Stagea should have come with a bigger turbo and definately fatter swaybars

Wing mirror and front shock towers prone to rust.

Cost of manual centre console ($2k or so, if you go genuine)

sun visors that look like crap as soon as they're a few years old

weather strips that break easily and are almost impossible to get replacements for.

no bi-fold console lid in S1

Dayz side skirts always seem to go misshapen near the rear wheelarch

That said, I always found my (S1) headlights to be very good, and I didn't mind the standard seating position (but my recaros sit a little lower, and it is significantly better)

if it's design faults you want, the clock on the dash is further away than it should be and there's not many practical spots for gauges, lol, although i doubt that's what they think of when they're designing a car

!!! i thought that was just ours! the wife's stag looks like somebody's just stuck a dayz kit on it (missing the rear of it though) and i thought it was just poor fitment, haha.

Already mentioned, but:

+1 on the window controls

+1 on the door rust

+1 on the dimmer (or lack thereof)

+1 on the oil-filter location (and subsequent farkin mess...)

The biggest problem is that Nissan never imported them here, so we've all had to wait 5+ years to get hold of one...

stupid rust on strut towers

not enough leg room

no remote start on manuals (dumbest f**kin idea ever)

shit hack single core radiator (slack f**ks )

wtf doesnt it have 4 pot brakes standard ( i have more power standard and more weight than a skyline so why the 2 pots)

space saver that is too small and upsets atessa

odd ball standard tire size on 17s on rsfour s

stupid f**kin hicas rack that the motor points straight down under the diff and gets ripped off when a 33 gts25t one bolts straight on and is way up out of the way

front sunroof doesnt open f**k all

they way my enging runs 10 psi standard but they havent tuned ecu f**k all so with an exhaust and intercooler and the boost turned down so it still only runs 10 psi and it runs rich as and pulls timing

back seat base is nothing more than a big wad of seat shaped foam

no factory oil cooler (r34 gtt got one . wtf didnt i )

thatll do for now

Good thing this is a car you like, I'd hate to see the list for a car you don't like...

Bad bits?

RS boost gauge failures.

OE turbo exhaust wheel... poo ceramic doesn't last!

That is all.

Yes it does. If you want to flog the guts out of ANY vehicle, it has to be built to suit your bent.

I drive pretty hard on occasions. But there is a big (mental) difference between a hard (on) and a flog.

I must respond :P

The brakes are as-per C34 Laurel Sedan, but I agree that with the wagon platform, they should be bigger.

The Series 1 has an oil cooler (adjacent the filter), doesn't the series 2 have the same setup?

And, The S1 trans cooler is a bit piss-weak, but I'm sure it's fine in Japan :)

    • Ha, well, it's been.... a bit of a journey. Things have taken much longer than I'd hoped. I'll probably put up a thread at some stage. Hopefully soon. The car's not done any kms since my update in June though, put it that way.
    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
    • Those comp test results are not hideous. Whether they are accurate or not (ie, when that comp tester says 140 psi, is the real pressure120, 140 or 160?) is unknown to us. The state of the battery used to crank it over is unknown, etc etc. Many people around here would say that the absolute values and the spread are perfectly fine to just add boost and keep going. I personally would be happier with a narrower spread than that, but even the diff between 125 and 145 is not terrible. That one cylinder at 125 though, has probably copped some damage relative to the others. You should inspect the valves seeing as you've got it open. Do you know how to measure installed ring gaps? That, and an inspection of the rings themselves, is how you will determine whether they need to be replaced. If you're not good to do these things, take the block and the pistons and rings to a shop that is, and ask them for the go/no-go on them. Do the bores need a hone at all? If so, you might well be justified in getting some different pistons in order to get away from the ring supply problem. Whether you're happy to spend a lot more money right now, on more gear, rather than less money, but an amount that looks stupid given that you will only get a handful of rings in exchange for that money, is for you to decide.
    • also possibly backed up to my filler and shat down it! 🤣
    • Ok so i would love some advice here please, i purchased an R33 a few months back and its had a few mods done to the engine, its an RB25det running a Master ECU, 1200cc injectors, bigger turbo, oil cooler, oil filter relocation kit, Spool H-beam rods, acl/ross pistons. When i removed the motor from the vehicle (as its getting a respray) i thought i would compression test it and these are the following results. Cylinder 1-145psi, Cylinder 2-143psi, Cylinder 3-125psi, Cylinder 4-145psi, Cylinder 5-140psi, Cylinder 6-135psi this test was done with the motor on the ground and powering up the starter motor. I dropped the sump and found broken oil squirters on cylinder 3,5 and 6. I was told my rings are probably worn so i stripped the motor completely to get a new set of rings for it. The trouble is no one has these rings anywhere and they have to be custom made by Ross over in the states and will cost about $600+$200 delivery. My question is how can i tell if my rings are at fault and if they are still ok and is this price ok for a set of rings?
