Hey mate,

Just to help you out, you could unregister it and then send it down to Melbourne but be warned, if the guy then goes to the Vic Roads and the people there don't know really what they are doing they might ask him for the import approval and the Consumer Information Notice (CIN).

The only way you'll keep the plates though is if you de-register the car in NSW, and then ship it down and the guy down in Melbourne can get a permit to drive it to the Vic Roads office.

Hey guys,

If I sell my car to Melbourne from Sydney, what needs to be done?

I have current NSW plates which I want to keep, so do I just go to the RTA and get my car un registered?

Does the buyer from Melbourne then get a day pass to drive to melbourne unregistered?

Once he is in Melbourne, what does he need to do to get the car registered?

Thanks for any help.

what on earth is a CIN?

he's got an R34 GTR, which means its complied under RAWS, which is a federally recognised compliancy scheme, unlike the state based one in place for shitty old 15 year bangers.

you shouldn't have any problems registering the car in VIC if it has a compliance sticker and VIN number on the chassis. RWC has to be VIC issued, not from NSW so there's no point.

you'll need a day permit in both NSW and VIC to drive the car down as one will not cover you in both states.

You can simply ...

i) put your plates into storage and get replacement ones (to keep the car registered)

ii) swap plates with a family member @ $22/swap ie. $44 to RTA and take with you the 2X Certificates of Rigistr'n

Price has probably gone up per swap methinks (since I did it).

    • Ha ha ha, that's fair mate! We have the crackhead dogs now. Mainly because the missus wants the crazy dogs while she still has the energy and capacity to be able to keep up with them! Ha ha our current two are both Working GSD, there brothers and sisters (from the same litters) are in Police, Corrective Services, and I believe one did end up in defence force too. They're wild and fun, yet right now, both curled up asleep on the lounge room floor while we watch some TV. Mal is very likely the next dog (unless I get my couch potato guardian dog 😛 )   What are your Kitties names? Are you planning some house work, like those high kitty shelves, built in scratching post, and some cat passages from one room to another room?
    • Maine Coone, did look at but to big and fluffy As for performance dogs, we had Mals at work, performance dogs are fun to watch, but, way to much work for this old rooster
    • Yep, it was only an option on the Q50 Hybrid.  Same in Japan as far as I know. And doesn't use a centre diff like the Suby's do, so not the same as the WRX.  But it also isn't a reactive AWD like other Nissan AWD vehicles are, eg. Murano/Xtrail/etc.
    • You should have got a Maine Coone then. Only thing is they're big. But so cool, and just like a dog. Or, just get yourself a high performance dog. That'll teach you for wanting Parkour indoors 😛
    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
