I noticed an oil leak, found it coming from the cooler core, there seems to be a bit in there but what's the rule on how much is too much and how I can check if it's as simple as blowby or something more serious with the turbo seals?

It's a CA powered S13 with a stock turbo, running about 12psi, core was rebuilt in '02 with $1300 worth of receipts so it shouldn't be too old. Car has full service history.

Car doesn't blow smoke that I'm aware of either

Cheers

Dan

its just oil mist from the crankcase breathers...no biggie.

ive just bought one of these S13 CA's for a bit of fun...building a Red R Racing engine for it...should be tough.

So you reckon catch can time after I clean the pipes then hey DiRT

Side note: I've only had my S13 a couple months too, bought it for the same reason and it's a hoot. Also, so much more fun have a dedicated track car and not worrying so much about breaking it and getting to work on Monday lol

So anything i should be looking for to indicate a more serious problem?

build thread? :)

not really worth it...most of the stuff wont be able to be seen. Doing the ultimate stealth build...only mods that will be noticeable are the cooler pipes and they will be powdercoated black for that factory look. Should be good for around 250KW+ at the treads, will run GTR brakes and the R34 rims that twoogle sometimes wears. Will do the odd track day in it and either sell it or give it to my daughter.

yes Dan, catch tank will stop it pooling oil in the cooler.

all coolers get oil build up after time, either take them off and clean out or put degreaser down ya cooler pipes, leave sit for a while.

car might not start first time, or idle well bit it will get their after blowing out alot of smoke ( oil from cooler )

car will run and sound better.

put a catch can on it, its because the breather from the cam covers goes in before the turbo which sucks it through the system..

Oil in the cooler will reduce the coolers cooling efficency as well as reduce the octane of the fuel in the combustion chamber

Also curious as to whether this could be rings.

Car doesn't blow any smoke that I'm aware of but a little bit of fuel and seems to run OK. Unsure of compression.

any hard and fast rule as to how much oil in the catch can is too much?
