Hey guys im new to this forum, so sorry if i posted in the wrong thread.

So i got my provisional 1 licence(red p's) in a automatic about 2months ago(only had a auto at the time) but ill be getting a car soon and would like to upgrade my licence to a manual

so i can get a manual car, i know i can upgrade my licence to a manual and that ill have to reset the test again in a manual which i dont mind but what i would like to know is if firstly if i fail this test will i still keep my automatic licence or will my licence be taken away and also if i do pass when will i get my provisional 2(green p's) licence, a year from when i got my licence in a automatic or a year from when i upgraded my licence to a unrestricted(manual) provisional 1 licence(red p's) ?

Thanks in advance

You wouldn't think they could "take" your automatic licence off you?

I guess if that was a possibility when you went to book/complete the test they would advise you of that anyway?

But as Slim said.. just wait for the RTA to open tomorrow morning & ask them

I was going to do the same thing when I bought my 34.

Except i only had 1 month till my greens so i just drove on an auto licence. Give yourself a good couple of hours to learn manual (or as long as it takes to be comfortable) before thinking bout sitting the test. Then do some more driving :P

I had one person from the RTA tell me i couldnt do it, cant put L plates on the car because im learning manual and cant drive manual with reds cause its 'illegal' even with a fully licenced driver. But the next person said its fine to have reds on the car with a fully licenced driver next to you while learning manual.

I'd call the RTA to clarify to be safe they change legislation like underpants.

Good luck with it all,

David

Yeah I was in the same position as you. I bought my Skyline but I was still on my auto license. Was driving my car around to learn the ropes of manual haha, started driving it by myself for about a month until highway patrol pulled me over and yeahh....got a fine and lost points. Not worth it. Ring up RTA and find out everything before you take action :)

what a waste of money. why not just start manual in the 1st place or even better yet save your money do the 5min green ps test and there you go you can drive manual. my friend wasted his money booking a test to drive manual. its like your ls test without the log book. you sit in the car with an instructor drive for a while and back to the rta to see if you pass or fail.

the funny thing is, its either you get your red p's in an auto but when you get your greens (or your full licence not to sure but i think its when you get your greens) you are allowed to drive a manual without sitting a test in one

call the RTA and ask them if you want a definite answer.

Yeah, I agree with Sam.

And if you don't get the answer you were hoping for, just try calling the next day, you'll probably get a different answer... repeat process until you hear what you want to hear.

Thats what i did. Allowed to drive manual on green P's

wow thank god we dont have that law here in SA....sounds very confusing with the Green and Red P's and then the auto and manual license talk....wow

So if you have your full license, but you sat ur test in an auto.. does that mean that even on your fulls you can't drive manual???

i am interested in this now

But because the current one has the filter direct into the AFM inlet, you effectively have the best chance of a completely symmetric air flow profile upstream, and in, the AFM, whilst the aftermarket inlet thingo has a (small, to be sure) bend between the filter and the AFM. That would bias the flow to the outside of the bend (downstream of the bend) which might well reduce the size of the signal seen by the AFM, for the same total flow rate. Having said that: If you're proposing to make your inlet look like a hybrid of your existing one and the aftermarket one, such that there is no bend where the filter is clamped on... then I say it will be just fine. If there is going to be such a bend, then, if you can align the insertion of the AFM blade such that it is at right angles to the plane of the bend, then there is a better than even chance that the centreline velocity where the blade is will remain more or less the same, and the velocity will just be a little faster to the outside of that, and just a little slower to the inside. **This is not professional investment advice and you should consult a suitably qualified ouija board, tea leaves or the intestines of a goat for more accurate prognostication.
    • Hi Tao, Thanks for your reply.  It's been a while and I managed to get the valve stem seals replaced with the head on the car.  Unfortunately this didn't solve my issue, the car still smokes a lot after idling (to be honest during idle you can see a bit of blue smoke from the exhaust), same after deceleration. I will try disconnecting the valve cover breathers, do I leave the PCV valve in? By engine oil drain pipe, do you mean the turbo oil drain?
    • What about if you just give it direct 12v and earth?
    • Hi guys . Can someone help me  I bought an Android screen for my Nissan fuga but it won't turn on
    • My guesstimate, with no real numbers to back it up, is it won't effect it greatly at all.its not a huge change in position, and I can't see the air flow changing from in turbulence that much based on distance, and what's in front of it. Johnny and Brad may have some more numbers to share from experience though.
