Kermit's work is amazing. mad skills!

Helped me put my car back together for like,4 hours longer than expected. lifesaver.

Only problem is, the studs in the turbo -. dump are crap one stud is too small and doesn't hold on properly, so the dump has a tiny leak, you can't really hear it at all, only feel it.

got some replacements, just gotta take the whole exhaust side apart again :(

gate sounds sick, fucking love it haha

now I get full boost (11psi) alot earlier at about 3000 rpm, so I've gained about 600rpm in response, and alot more torque. 1st and 2nd gear are useless on boost and 3rd pulls hard.

NEED suspension mods! Wish Hotbits would pull their finger out of their ass and let me order the coilovers! they "can't get them in from malaysia at the moment" Fark.

Update.

The car is soon gonna be lowered by 70mm!

Called K-Mac and got a quote for springs, they said they can make them to any height, 70mm is a good height, the lowest part of the car (front subframe) will sit 140mm off the ground, which is plenty for me I think. Will look sorta like a Forester, which is cool cos my mate just bought one, 250hp, nice zorst, slammed etc... Will look cool together!

K-Mac also make camber kits for the front, just need to sort something out for the rear... The front is almost exactly the same as the rear, so I can't see how the camber adjustment kit they sell will be any different to the fronts, might be able to use the front kit on the rear too! The rears have a 3 bolt top the same as the fronts, so I can't see it being different!

Stay tuned, probs order them late next week...

Hey guys

My springs came in the mail today, pretty stoked.

IMG_0471.jpg

70mm lowering and approx 30% stiffer :)

Camber bolts, these are for the fronts, and according to K-Mac, the rears wont be a problem when lowering 70mm. Again i'll have to wait and see when they get installed next week.

IMG_0472.jpg

Getting installed next week. I'm a little nervous, this is uncharted territory. No one's ever lowered an x-trail more than 40mm and documented it, so I've got nothing to go off. Just hoping that it's going to be all okay, by everything that i've measured, It'll work....

Also installed these cool little angel eye driving lights, I reckon they're pretty cool :) They're wired in to the ignition barrel, so they're on constantly with the accessories, then I've mounted a switch on the dash too.

Next post will be before and after sots once the cars lowered.

man loving this beast. let us know if you get kermit to do more work on it and ill time my catch up visit so i can see it.

Thanks mang!

I'll wanna get my hot side cooler piping re-done soon so I'll prob enlist Kermit again for that haha I'll let ya know!

Before:

After:

IMG_0488.jpg

As you can prob notice, the front sits about 7-10mm higher than the rear :( Don't quite know why, maybe an imperfection with the springs.

I didn't quite get 70mm out of them, more like 55mm, but they might settle after a few days...

Turns out the car didn't even need the camber adjustment pins! the camber once lowered was actually within factory spec, dont ask me how that works... I have about -1.0* of camber up front, the rear left has -1.5*, and rear right has -1.1* and every other measurement is within spechappy.gif

So I can send the camber pins back to K-Mac and get a nice $135 refund happy.gif

From here, I'm gonna investigate whether S15 silvia coilovers fit my car. The front ones have the same design as our cars (3 bolt tops and two bolt bottoms) so i'll do some measurements and see if I can find someone who's selling a pair to take more measurements. That'll be cool, cos a pair of front ones x2 would be VERY cheap. there's plenty of good 2nd hand jap suspension going around in the wreckers...

p.s. apologies for the dirty car lol those wheels are hideously dusty haha

Needs more low...

Seriously looking good though, especially the custom exhaust.

Yeah no shit. As soon as I saw it with these springs in, it spurred my appetite for moar low.

S15 coilovers next! haha

looking good, let the springs settle a bit but the s15 idea is good.

Yeah I've notice a bit a of a difference in the spring hey, didn't expect much but it's settled a good few mm, enough to be noticeable anyway!

Coilovers are a great idea! How's the handling going, anyway?

Some tire shine and clear or smoked side indicators would set it off too. Looking good, as always!

Handling is great, so much more stable, it a little bumpy going over curbs, the shocks are almost bottomed out haha

Almost no body roll an more, no more squat under acceleration, the coilovers are gonna be even better!

Yeah needs a good clean... Got some sound deadening spray for the wheel arches, nice and black and clean now!

Just done the most EPIC service this morning...

Gates V-belt, Penrite SIN15 synthetic oil, oil flush, Ryco oil and fuel filters (fucking in-tank filter was a pain), re-charged air filter and a tyre rotation!

WIN! Car loves me now, runs soo much smoother! Penrite FTW.

    • That's probably OK. That's a face to face compression joint between two surfaces with the clamping load provided by those bolts. So.... it's unlikely that the bolts will end up feeling that load in shear, unless the clamping surfaces are not large enough, bolts not got enough tension on them, etc etc to prevent the two faces from moving wrt each other. Which... I would hope the designers have considered, seeing as it's probably one of the most important things the upright has to do apart from resist collapsing in its own right. But yes, it would definitely be worth asking them what their safety factor on that part of the design was. I tend to think that the casting, being a casting, is not necessarily the strongest bit of material in the world. It's about an inch square, and when you think about the loads that are being put into it, you have to wonder what safety factor the Nissan boys (and every other OEM engineer who has designed all the millions of other uprights that look essentially the same) used to account for defective casting, aging, severe impacts on the wheel, etc etc.
    • Those bolts would be orders of magnitude stronger that cast aluminium though.  And its mainly clamping force, not shear they are dealing with?
    • Except all that twisting force that is breaking a cast piece, appears to be going through 4 bolts in the picture Johnny posted of the BryPar one...
    • The smart approach is to use the gearbox loom from the manual car. Makes it a lot easier - just plugs into the switches on the box and plugs into the main loom up near the fusebox. Then you only need to deal with bypassing the inhibit switch. The other approach requires you to use the wiring diagram to identify those wires by colour and location, perhaps even indulging in a little multimeter action to trace them end to end to make sure, and then.... you will have the answers you need. The R34 wiring diagram is available on-line (no, I do not have a link to it myself - I would have to do a search if I wasn't able to go to the copy I have at home).
    • Hi, i’m converted my r34 4dr auto to manual but need help with gearbox wiring. There are bunch of wires no idea which one for speedo drive, neutral, reverse can anyone help me. IMG_6860.mov
