Dean,

Thanks dude. I can't wait myself!

Hip,

Thanks mate :) Hmmm... dunno' if the car is quite up to Autosalon standard, not that I'm worried if it is or not. The engine bay should look nice once it's finished though :)

Maybe I can put a huge Greddy sticker across the windscreen? It'll make driving the car much more challenging :D

Not up to Autosalon standard?

Matt I could eat my dinner off your engine bay!!!!! , my god that car is so clean!

whatsisname - I hope you don't mind me contributing to your thread here in SA land - I feel that we are both going thru the same things at the moment and it is good to swap experiences -Not trying to take anything away from your great looking engine and rebuild !

I'm really appreciating your pics and am getting some great ideas for mine too:

B-man,

No prob's mate, happy for you to post away :D Nice turbo choice! The manifold looks excellent too.

Looks like both our new engine packages will be running very soon!

Oh yeah, forgot to add......

If anyone is looking for injector plugs to suit Denso 550cc'ers, believe it or not Ford Festiva Trio plugs are an exact match! Right down to the exact same appearance & only one shade off the same grey colour!

Took me 5 local wreckers & numerous engine bays to discover that though.

I think my DIY injector loom came up a treat :D

is it just me or does your car look "red"der than ever?? i mean i thought ur car was maroon the last time i saw it :D

that just looks beautiful man ... and is that blue cable thing on the left just some grounding plug??

just a question ... what u going to do when u get defected??

Hip,

It probably just looks bright red 'cause I've polished inside the engine bay. It's amazing how much grime builds up in there!

The blue cable thing on the left is my new DIY injector loom to suit the Denso 550cc injectors.

Mate don't even mention the 'D' word! It gives me sleepless nights just thinking about how much of a pain in the arse a defect will be :)

Knore,

Thanks mate. To be honest I'm not really sure on a price for the engine as it is now? It's been spaced out over 3+yrs. A ball park guess for everything (all internal / external / bolt on performance & appearance mods) would be.... ~14+k. Probably more if I really sat down & started listing everything!

Steve,

Yeah me too mate!

Ahhh... yes... very good point re the loom. The guys were so keen to get the motor back in the car they didn't wait for me to finish the loom! It only took me 1.5days to find 2 plugs that matched the 4 James already had. Mind you with a bit less crap in the way it "should" be easier to fit & connect the loom.

omg Matt that is insane! Nice work!

I bet your itching to start 'er up and go for a spin!

I may have missed it, but did you say who's doing the re-build?

Be hanging to see it on a near future cruise :)

Steve,

No you've got it right mate, there's enough room to get in there without removing the plenum.

Joolz,

Thanks dude :) Certainly am keen to get it back on the road, although it's going to be painfully slow waiting till I've run it in.

The engine was rebuilt by James @ Nisspeed, with the rest being done/organised by Shaun from Boost Worx & a few things by myself.

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.
    • My Nismo 1.5 churps a bit on reverse turns when cold, but besides that feels like a stock diff.
    • Yes, but, I paid cash and I'm pretty sure the receipt was in the bin 10 minutes after I got home Note to self, keep all receipts

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
