I am not particularly up with whats a good time at tracks, But just how is this thing looking compared to a Taxi? And would a gtr with the freedoms of taxi racing be too different (Anyone who feels like pointing out that a gtr built to those specs would have a 5litre pushrod V8 and live axle, I an not asking how a Taxi would go compared to a Taxi) I have long wondered just what would happen if a GTR was built to similar guidelines.. How much would we beat them by now?

Dont make the mistake of thinking that V8 Supercars have plenty of freedom in the rules. Revs, weight, compression, suspension components, a horribly small control tyre. Limited aero etc etc all mean that given a clean sheet of paper a team could make the cars go far quicker. Keep in mind that at some track Carrera Cup cars are as quick-quicker then the Supercars.

They are still race cars, but free up some of the rules and the teams could make the cars lighter, bigger tyre, better aero and more power.

But would be interesting....like any form of tin-top motorsport, any car with a technical advantage will be hobbled to allow for other makes to compete.

Correct, the V8's aren't cutting edge stuff, but they are developed to within an inch of their capability.

Having driven the 34 I can say it definately feels hobbled by tyres. Not taking anything away from the Yoki Advan, I'm sure they're great, but the car deserves a full slick. Obviously trying to develop the thing for Superlap events means tuning it on slicks is a waste. Regardless, for Bathurst it will be on slicks.

Talking with dave who designed the suspension on wednesday (and builds V8's too), he says there is absolutely no reason the 34 wouldn't be quicker on a comparable tyre. And that fairly obvious when you flesh out the specs of each.

** entered for Lakeside on the 17th........ BE THERE!

hell yeah! there better be video - footage like you got with the speed and stuff overlayed would be awesome!

I can't make it there, will be camping at Fraser...

will be very interesting to see what times it does!

Do you guys just do super sprints??? Marlin, Harry??

yeah, just the occassional sprint for me these days. I've had a bit of a resurgance of interest since Lakeside re-opened. Probably done as many sprints in the past 18 months as the previous 5 years put together!

Have done a bit of rallying in the past, both classic rallies and a few gravel/forest rallies. If it wasn't so expensive I'd love to have another crack at the forest. Nothing comes close to its adrenaline rush!

I was wondering if you got into the low key race meetings...grassroot gridracing sort of stuff?? I am involved with a race series and will be coming up that way in 2010

Rallying is awesome fun even in the passenger seat..I am addicted :)

Yes Jess, it will be at the Drive Bathurst meeting :D

super sprint or the other one? So many question..I always ask questions :merli:

Oh I would love that car to go up against Jim Richards Porsche!!!

Yeah thats the one. I was going to enter, then I woke up and realised the chemist won't sell me enough Codral to afford to enter.

Aww I feel your pain! You should enter speed weekend in December..Thats if your not doing Mt Buller

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
