Hi all , out of curiosity does anyone have a GT3076R with the real Garrett GT30 integral wastegated turbine housing and the HKS cast low mount manifold on a GTS25T ?

I need to know if that wastegated turbine housing misses the near side engine mount - and anything else that can't easily be relocated .

The only running example I've seen is the woolafs ext gated GT3082R and he said minor mods were made to the mount in his R33 .

I have one of these manifolds but no adapter or ext gate so I suppose a blanking plate and the IW housing should work nicely . BTW - don't want to start an EW vs IW discussion here , for me 0.82 IW is fine .

BTW Woolaf , you don't need the spacer plate with this exhaust manifold do you ?

There is definitely no spacer on there disco.

I suspect you may need to machine the engine mount a whisker for clearance just like on the ext gated units.

Since you are swapping on your shiny new 52 trim special order you really should replace the manifold studs while you are in there. This will give you the chance to dummy fit the HKS manifold (that you really should use!!) and see what clearance you have.

I gather it's the compressor housing that gets a bit cosy with the engine mount when using the HKS manifold .

Yeah I figure it probably isn't any more trouble to plumb up a turbo on the HKS manifold than the std one since you have to make a dump and inlet pipe anyway . From what I remember of your car the turbo sits further back and almost below the manifold so a bit more stealth I suppose .

Actually thinking about it your GT3082R has a larger T04S comp housing than my GT3076R's T04E one so may clear as is with a bit of luck . Was much removed from the mount or its bracket on your car ?

I was intending to buy genuine manifold studs and gasket/s , if anyone has their part no's - thanks .

Also is the space behind the turbine housing adequate to fit in an IW type dump pipe with a reasonable radius bend ?

I was lucky and bought an S2 without anti stop brakes so I don't have the pump box and mass of pipes to worry about .

Also have to think about heat shielding , did HKS originally sell those manifolds with heat shields ?

Noted the pantz party , LOL .

But there's more , from the same site .

This has some interesting stuff about Holset turbos on RB engines and an Apexi cast RB manifold I'd never seen before .

On the second page there is a pic of an RB25 wearing an Apexi manifold with a HX35 , it also has a GReady type inlet and I noticed the TB indexed around I suppose to make the throttle cable reach it .

Just on the HKS manifold a few have been sold here and the "Kits" have been broken up at times .

She'll want to strangle me but I don't suppose anyone is selling the adapter and waste gate to suit the cast low mount manifold ?

The compressor gets close but it is only a whisker needs to come off (if any at all). I made my own heat shield with 1mm aluminium with basic hand tools so with some basic workshop tools you could make up something pretty tidy. With a smaller compressor cover you might come out with nothing to do. Either way it isn't a big deal when you are already in there.

There should be plenty of room for a new dump as the manifold is a low mount vs side mount. The radius on the dump should be more reasonable than on a factory manifold.

Re the engine mount it depends on whether you have a 100mm or the smaller inlet on the housing as to how much engine mount you grind away.

You'll have to grind away the alloy engine mount cover as well.

The HKS low mount [and you are dead set correct Wolverine in calling std manifolds side mounts] actually gives you more room to play with - once the engine mount is modified. I have a SII with ABS and it doesn't even come close. The biggest pain is the A/C hoses running along the subframe. They are a bit close but you can make up a neat alloy heat shield [i used stainless sheet] and that helps. Never ever seen a HKS cast low mount with a heat shield attached, I know they have mounting lugs for one, but never seen one.

Not sure about your IW exahust housing room, but there's no problems with the WG housing hitting the motor, the HKS manifold mounting position for the turbo is kicked out at the rear a bit, the turbo doesn't sit parallel to the motor, so you loose out on the comp side - thus the engine mount mod - but gain on the exhaust side.

The last pieces of my turbo are on order , the 0.82 housing and the large canister 14 lb actuator . I reckon 14 pounds should be a good starting point and with the 0.82 IW GT30 turbine housing should not be light switch anyway .

I must remember to ask Michael to make sure the housing has the larger flat valve though I think all they do now don't they ?

I suppose with the turbo mounted lower down on these HKS manifolds it's easier to get the water outlet line facing upwards and I wouldn't mind it going around the front of the engine RB26 style .

Yes no one has ever seen the heat shield for those manifolds . I might try to get some of that aluminium "quilted" blanket material and make something out of that for the manifold and turbine housing .

I don't suppose Ford had anything made for this style of housing and dump on XR6T's ?

I'll duck into John Robinson Nissan at Rockdale tomorrow and order the exhaust manifold studs and the manifold gasket .

My manifold has four good mounting studs for the turbo but I'll need that gasket as well .

    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year. 
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
