Hey Stags & Stagettes,

I have recently purchased a 2nd hand drivers side mirror to replace my current part which has a broken auto 'fold in' motor and wobbles around at speeds +80km/h. I was originally hoping to swap the internals of this new mirror with the broken motor/workings of the old one. From what I can see however, these mirrors look almost like a one-piece construction, and appear quite difficult to get 'into'.

Has anyone faced this problem? I am wondering if I should simply replace the entire mirror with the new part and have it resprayed, or if there is a way to 'open up' the mirrors in order to swap over the internals and use my existing yellow shroud.

Any help or advice would be really appreciated.

Ok, just Re-sprayed mine!

1. Remove harness retaining screw (located on inside behind seal/foam)

2. Remove 3x screws under mirror to seperate housing, pull harness halfway for easy access.

3. Flat blade screwdriver to pry off mirror lens (Pry top of lens from hole in housing - tape up end of blade!)

4. remove lens motor (wiring connectors - no clips? - careful!)

5. remove swing motor

6. refit in reverse order

7. Pm me if spare's Required!

I'd add one correction - pry bottom of lens to remove from housing. And no tools are required, just your fingers. The glass backing-plate has locking tabs at the top, and clips on the bottom (un-clip at the bottom and slide the glass down).

I've just changed over both my mirror glass for JDM convex items - it took about 10 minutes, and the only time a screwdriver was required was to brace the mirror internals while I clipped the glass back on.

Up - down, all the same when its on the bench in rags, so no scratches!!!

Ihave the same problem with mine...to take the screw ,is it behind the triangular piece where the tweeter is?how do you remove it?

I'm so annoyed - turns out the mirrors must vary between the series 1 and 2 Stageas! :ninja: The internals and even the shroud plastics are different. I'll be looking to sell the series 1 replacement part and try and source a series two mirror assembly. Be aware of this when you're looking to replace parts, people!

I took the door-skin off in order to take off the triangular piece and disconnect the mirror wiring. There are two screws underneath the door that need to be undone, plus the screws inside the door 'handle', and one towards the front of the door. Then, lift the rubber lining above and over the triangular piece before simply yanking the plastic off, top-first. Just be aware that there is a plastic 'lip' at the bottom of the triangular black plastic piece that hooks into the door skin.

Hope this all makes sense.

Oh yeah, Remove door trim and triangle trim piece, then uplug electrical connector to mirror and 3x bolts to remove mirror first!!! :)

I have both series 2 mirrors in grey/silver off rs-v 2wd stagea if needed $40 ea.

if its any help the motor in the mirror of a series 2 stagea is the same as an A33 Nissan maxima, i found that out when my mirror got smashed, works a treat too since i put it in, all im saying is that a local nissan maxima mirror is a lot easyer to find second hand then a series 2 stagea one.

Old topic but same issue.

My passenger mirror had a bad case of the wobbles.

So I removed it for a closer inspection.

I found two screws missing, adding screws and tightening them and tightening another screw seems to have fixed the problem.

Maybe I was lucky, I was dreading a motor change.

I'll confirm once i've mounted it again.

Tip for new S2 Stagea owners: Keep the mirror fold switch in the middle position when you don't want the mirrors to change. Otherwise closing the doors or bumping the mirror can cause the mirrors to fold in or out.

    • All of this is making it seem clear that running the Coppermix twin was definitely the way to go, especially in hindsight with how insane tariffs have gotten and the strength of the USD vs yen at the time.
    • That sounds like no chance of even importing one for road registering then Now I see why Duncan wants to check LHD rules for Targa...   I wonder how "bolt in" the AWD would be if you got one imported from the US and swapped it to an AUD one
    • Not to mention they drive like a bucket of bolts! yuck!
