I spoke to nissan, the numbers on the diagram are reference numbers only, RB25DE and RB26DETT valve spring part numbers are different, and R32 and R33 GTR valve spring part numbers are different also.

The guy from nissan assumed the GTR springs would be considerably stronger.

Thread revival!

Budget got raped...

large majority on funds were spent on the oiling system, still shooting for max reliability.

VCT has got the ass, mainly due to a pair of 272 8.8mm lift cams finding there way to my shed, possibly too large, but for $330 the pair, Im willing to try them out. :D

Starting to assemble the bottom end on the weekend, will throw up a few pics as it progresses.

I noticed that myself when I was stuffing around with fast. I just cbf updating the thread...

With the price of rods these days its worth throwing a set in.

If you decide you want to throw set of cams, plenum and 'decent' balancer at it then you feel safe to flick her to 8000rpm odd.

BUT. with 8000rpm you'll be pushing 340rwkw+ and most likely a gt35r unless your ringing the neck out of a GT30, not that ringing the neck out of a GT30 is a bad thing. Its a damn near perfect setup for the power IMO. The response and power delivery simply cannot be described other than a big power N/A with a big top end. I miss mine.

Just don't forget the requirement for a decent clutch and with 340rwkw comes the likely possibility of breaking an rb25 gearbox if the clutch and tyres are decent.

Torque breaks things.......

its been awhile....

in between holidaying, other commitments, work and losing interest in my car its finally running.

Well, has been for the last 9 months, still sorting out bugs that the car has/had.

Currently running on rb25 injectors, afm and ecu to put some km's on the engine and sort everything out.

First impression: drives goooood, drives well at low speeds, the IHI turbo isnt too laggy.

Now,

Inconsistant idle.

Sometimes it idles high, some times not at all.

Idle control valve?

Cheers

Just going back to the discussion about valve springs (as this is one of the first threads on valve springs to show on google :)), can anyone confirm if R34 RB25de also has the same valve springs as Rb25det? I know the camshaft has less lift.

    • Nah. You need 2x taps for anything that you cannot pass the tap all the way through. And even then, there's a point in response to the above which I will come back to. The 2x taps are 1x tapered for starting, and 1x plug tap for working to the bottom of blind holes. That block's port is effectively a blind hole from the perspective of the tap. The tapered tap/tapered thread response. You don't ever leave a female hole tapered. They are supposed to be parallel, hence the wide section of a tapered tap being parallel, the existince of plug taps, etc. The male is tapered so that it will eventually get too fat for the female thread, and yes, there is some risk if the tapped length of the female hole doesn't offer enough threads, that it will not lock up very nicely. But you can always buzz off the extra length on the male thread, and the tape is very good at adding bulk to the joint.
    • Nice....looking forward to that update
    • Neg, the top one is actually for the front. The sizes are 18x10.5 +18 and 18x11 +32.   I measured many times but I'm sure I'll have problems as this is the thread for problems.
    • Just one thing; tapping tapered threads is tricky. Taps are always tapered and you would generally run it as far as you can, but with a tapered thread you have to stop much sooner otherwise the wide part of the taper will run in too far and you will have to thread the sensor in too far too as well (possible that it will never make a good seal) BTW nice wide wheels, I guess the top one is for the back!
    • Welp, good to know. Will have to wait awhile until steady hands with drills and taps are available. In other news, these just arrived! I will weigh them for posterity. Edit: 11kg each (or 10.9/11.1 depending on what my scale decides over multiple tests, the 18x11 don't seem to weigh noticeably any more than 10.5)
