Well the engine builders don't think it's the sleeves as they don't protrude, and a new head gasket went in 2 days ago. Head was also just faced up when I removed it to fix a minor oil leak. It's very odd... and super frustrating.

This is the third headgasket to go into it now (original, second as a precaution after one of the valves was found to be 3mm longer than the rest and head removed, then this one a few days ago), head has been off twice, and entire engine out twice. A buggered oil pump: fixed... then a longer valve: fixed... minor oil leak from head: fixed... then what we thought was a leaking headgasket: fixed... and now milky oil :(

Just had it tuned at 285rwkw's @ 20psi and didn't even get to use it!

Where is your car these days Matt?

Dane, every time i start thinking engine rebuild for more power stories like yours scare me and i will stick with my 240rwkws odd

Crate engines mate.... Crane engines...

Nice power figure! Sounds like a weapon.. what's it weigh now?? If it's around 1200kg it would be super fast! Do you have a dyno graph to share... I'm interested in SR20 power curves..

I wouldn't know Matt, I haven't driven it!

I'd say it weighs in around the 1100-1150kg mark with everything taken out, but the cage added in. But I'll get it weighed soon enough once it's working. It felt pretty quick on the 250 or so rwkw's I ran ever so briefly at Sandown so 285 sounds promising.

Graph attached mate. It lost some power through the mid range with the cam timing change from it's initial Winton-last-minute tune, but gained a heap up top. Boost response is identical to what it was with 240rwkw's, and on the same boost level it makes a 45rwkw gain. It's also running 11.4 AFR's as we had a boost leak at the injectors so were running on the safe side in case they decided to seal up while I was running, so there should be a bit more in it at the same boost level.

Troy: Stay with the 240 mate. This was not worth the expense and hassles, despite the nice figure. I'm sure it will be great when it's all sorted but I could have been racing this whole time and that I won't get back.

But as Russ said, if I were to do it again I'd buy a crate engine.

Pre-Winton last minute tune

2lt tune, same turbo setup

Shall do mate. I'm heading there tomorrow so I'll ask him then.

I'd say yours makes more power across a broader range at the moment. I think once the boost leak is sorted it will improve a lot though but we'll see.

lol ya. came into the left hander, the pfc hand controller cut out. was like WTF! so wasnt concentrating and go into

the marbles i think. then went into the right hander and the back went on me.

skip into 3:00

Which straight is that? The one in front of the canteen?

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
