plan for the worst.

turbos, and crank and oil pump. and if you dont need them then thats cash in your pocket.

Turbos have been rebuilt 2000 clicks ago by garret. brand new N1 oil pump has also only done 2000 clicks also. I will get them inspected regardless though, still gotta grab some cash etc.

i would suggest repairing the crank/new bearings

new decent oil pump (jun, nitto, greddy, tomei etc etc)

valve guides

sump extension/baffle (greddy the best bang for buck)

full nissan gasket set

and new rings

if you have more money chuck in a set of decent pistons and either arp rod bolts or a set of spool rods

and if you want to spend even more it will snowball and you will be up for around $20k

as dirt garage said you could quite easily use your stock rods for the build as they have been proven to hold the power. but if you have to buy a few new ones it'll work out cheaper going spool rods.

second set of rods = $200

resizing them $120

ARP rod bolts $120

the look on someones face when you make 467AWKW and run countless low 10's with them....priceless

i honestly doubt spool chinese rods would be stronger than stockers.

I'd take you up on that bet. $5 says they are stronger tuan the stickies.

Captain Metalurgy agrees with me too.

People just underestimate the stockies, that's all.

I will be taking dirtgarages advice for the rebuild, he is very confident in what he says and he has the cars to back it up. Just have to sort some things out first before I can proceed. Although I must admit my faith in the stock motor is wavering after my experiences. I am hoping it is human error and not engineering.

its unfortuately the fact you have no idea of the life the new engine had before you recieved it that has to be considered.

metalurgy yes...but have you taken into account the cross section of each item.

Id say we may be getting $2.50 each.

Sounds like a round at the pub to me

Either way, I've got a set of Spool rods you are welcome to dispose of for the test.

Have you got any standard rods you can part with? Would only need two

wtf? double post?

$100 tells me i can hear Noel telling you to get off the net and get your ass back in the engine room assembling 3 x RB26's.

I win!

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
