Quickly everyone, I need help with tyre size choices!

I have a set of Work Meisters as some of you may know, sizes of them are 18x10 +13.

Being on a 32, these offsets are fairly agressive as most of you too would know...

Do I go for a 245/35 or 245/40

I want to try and dodge rolling my front guards, but will be getting my rears done. Opinions PLEASE.

id probably be inclined to go a 245/35 in anything but a feddy (they seem to be a wider mold).

but no matter what you end up doing, id suggest a roll front and rear, its easy enough to do on the rears with some patience, a rubber/plastic hammer, and a heat gun, fronts, i dunno, same again but with more patience and a shit ton more care, being aluminium and all.

hell, maybe even run a 225/35 or 235/35 federal 595ss if you really cant be f**ked with your guards.

I have just chucked 225/45 18s on my new rims that are 9.5" wide. Let me assure you it is more than enough stretch for me, and I can feel the degradation of the cushy handling of the car - I now well and truly feel every bump and pothole. But the look is awesome!

I would suggest if you want any sort of daily driving pleasant experience you go the highest sidewall height you can go.

Yes I am a soft old man. But I am still hard enough to chuck 18 x 9.5 +20 rims on a car that came standard with 8 +30s >_<

I'm looking at getting a recreational licence to use the Bolivar track while I set up the kart and see how competitive it might be in a particular class. Its an old kart being an Arrow AX6, but I'm not expecting Mark Webber results. I'd be happy with practice, then going thru the Probation period, before getting my C grade licence and then looking at a semi-serious kart like an AX9 with a blue-printed motor by Ian Williams or other workshop. ... or a Rotax if I can stretch the money that far, and I think I'm good enough.

why not go a 13B in it.....would be interesting to see it being done

just has to be legal height when engineered and their fine

i have been told in my numerous visit to the pits that to get coilovers engineered so that they are legal you will have to set it at the standard height (which for a R33 GTST is 345mm fronts and 355mm rears) and then get the adjustable bit welded shut so that it cannot be adjusted anymore......

for some reason they dont like the idea of them being that easy to dump back low after leaving.

I think I might go the 245/35. Cumfort doesn't really... come into much account with me after all if I wanted cumfort I wouldn't have got a GT-R to begin with and something like the HSV Grange etc or Cima lol. I really don't want to remove the plastic inner guard is all on the fronts and I know alot of places won't touch alloy guards and there is no way I can bring myself to even trying myself.

Let's see how disillusioned you are when being rammed by 1.7 tonnes of 1993 Ford Falcon at 60+kmph. Then do it again at 80+kmph with a 1968 Ford Cortina. Then again at 40kmph with a 1990s Nissan Pulsar. Then again with a 1960s VW Beetle. Then three more times for good measure, just to disillusion your mind. And I'm one of the lucky ones.

Yeah the last night out on karts saw alot of action and fierce racing from the top 4. But yet again, "age and experience" prevailed over "young and dumb" :laugh:

I hope your pride can take a whack, the KT class is the most competitve racing in the country, take it out to port Gawler, you'll soon find if your the quickest out there you'll be the slowest at southern!

When I stopped racing couple of years ago the Rotax was a dying class, the leopards are a much better option, so much easier to maintain, can go the whole season between rebuilds etc, much more reliable, and faster!

goodluck with it all, have you looked into joining the Barrossa club, I wish I did, alot more down to earth bunch out there.

I've raced in Brackets, Under 400cc, and Supersport in bike racing ... so I'm use to varied and competitive racing. Kinda found a soft spot for the karts. My cousin raced them years ago when I was younger, and I had a crack at it for a season ... but my love was for two wheel racing. Now I see it as a new hobby more than anything. But its in my DNA to race. :laugh:

I know the KT class is competitive. Unless you have a blueprinted motor nowdays (especially by a shop like Hurst), don't expect a top 5 finish. I'm just looking at entry level for now and then re-evaluate things say 12 months on.

I certainly want to look into the Barossa Club. They seem to hold more regular races/practice days ... and Southern just don't seem to want to answer my enquiries.

looking at ordering an intercooler and ive heard that a smaller one will give me better response, say a 450 x 300 x 76 rather than the standard 600 x 300 x 76

is this true? im not looking at making any more than about 200rwkw....

Then please enlighten me what the exact correct way to read 'Pain is an illusion of the body'. And I understand about electrical signals being sent to the brain and interpreted as pain and how these signals can misfire after trauma to the body.

FYI I got up on the same side of my bed as I always do, but my body does ache more today than... yesterday. I have heard similar comments from doctors and counsellors for years and I have often asked them what real physical pain have they experienced and how long did it last for. If the duration is less than 2 years they don't know shit. If the duration is approaching 5 years then they have a clue. If the duration is greater than 10 years then they might actually know. Mine has been 15 years now and still counting. I believe Tangles would know where I am coming from.

Personally it will only make a poofteenth difference. I wouldn't worry too much

    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
    • My experience with Rising Sun Exports Before agreeing to the sale I tried to do as much research as I could (obviously), his Facebook reviews are 98% and he goes Live at least once or twice a week. I contacted 2 people in the UK who had used him for their imports, both had positive feedback. His explanation and talk through of the import process was thorough, answering any query no matter how stupid it was. It felt as soon as the money was sent, communication dropped off. I asked for shipping updates every 2 weeks or so, not wanting to pester him, he never had any updates. I wasn't informed the car had been dropped off at the port, I only found out by his Facebook story. I asked for the photos taken at the port, knowing he would need some for insurance purposes. I received a few 5 second clips and that's it. When asked again, he said his staff had them. Weeks later I asked again, he tells me he doesn't have any, but does have 50 photos from the original advert. I never received them. I eventually got the documents sent via WhatsApp after I mentioned the port was requesting them. I purchased a CarVX report, to find out the vehicle is a Grade R with recorded accident damage, first recorded in 2017 when it was first auctioned. He never told me the grade, then again I didn't ask. His response was "Grade R means nothing, it wasn't chassis damage". Still, I would have liked to have been informed about it. Jon prides himself on being open and honest when it comes to inspecting cars, it's his main job doing so at the auctions for customers. When the vehicle arrived in the UK I noticed a few little cosmetic issues. It's a 21 year old car so it wasn't going to be mint condition. The side skirts are cracked on each corner and the sealant is failing. The front grill on the bonnet/hood isn't secured very well, mounting studs are missing. Both minor things, but again, it would have been nice to be told. During a Facebook Live walk around video of the vehicle, he mentioned it has a front Whiteline anti roll bar/sway bar. While on the inspection ramp, I noticed the stock item has been installed. When first questioned, his response was "the ARB? Switched? Since when, it never had them". Since sending video and photo evidence I've not received a response. I'm probably being over critical of the overall condition of an old car, but all I wanted was honesty (which he claims to have). I'm aware I wasn't his only customer, he's busy doing XYZ but other reviews praise him for great communication with regular updates and photos, I felt I didn't receive the same treatment. 
    • I was able to get some underside photos while the car was on the ramp The suspension is all Altezza/IS200/IS300 so getting part's will hopefully be less of a headache
    • Welcome to my 2004 Toyota Mark ii IR-V Fortuna (series 2) With a 1JZ-GTE powerplant under the bonnet (hood) it'll give me plenty of scope for power upgrades. For those who aren't familiar with imports, the 1JZ-GTE is a 2.5L 6 cylinder VVTi engine with a single turbocharger. This has the factory R154 5 speed gearbox, along with a aftermarket 2 way LSD differential (brand unknown). Under the arches are a set of CST Zero 1 alloys, 18x9 +30 225/40 up front and 18x9.5 +15 265/35 on the rear. The car was quite low in Japan and there's evidence of the wheels catching the rolled arches/fenders. The tyre's aren't great so I'm in two minds whether to replace both or just the tyres and put up with the wider wheels on the rear. The car still uses stock brakes with the addition of some braided hoses. The exterior is stock with the exception of a BN Sports front bumper and a replacement Fortuna grill  Moving to the interior, the steering wheel has been replaced with a dished MOMO steering wheel (which will get swapped for my Momo Tuner for the time being) Defi Link Gauges are mounted above the climate controls and on the A pillar, the Oil Temp,Oil Pressure,Water Temp and Boost gauges should help with spirited and track driving  The stock seats have been replaced with some retrimmed Recaro bucket seats. Being a larger build these are a little snug, unfortunately the orange isn't for me so I'll look into replacing these down the line. Other modifications include a twin plate clutch, Blitz intercooler, Evolve alloy radiator, a stainless exhaust with decat, HKS EVC-S boost controller and coil overs
