Just got a couple of quotes back for a standard rb26 bottom end swap.. 7-9k ouch.. :ninja:

Looking at a couple of built long motors in japan the moment.. One's a tomei 2.8, 270 tomei cams, tomei oil pump, N1 water pump etc. in a N1 block. Motor has just under 4000k's on it.. May aswell get it checked out by a shop over there and do it right the first time i spose..

Can't justify spending that kind of money on a standard bottom end..

sucks.

rb30? :ninja:

I've considered this.. But weezy gets mad and reckons it's molesting it.. Might throw in a rb30et with a A6 bottom end just to make him rage.. haha

Fitspatrick had a rb26 awd adapter for $450 (don't know if they still do) then there's around $600 in machine work to relocate the oil pick up then drill and re tap the rb30 for bigger head studs and a tensioner..

Thats about as much as i've looked into it so far.

Dayum thats quite cheap...

Bargain if you can get it, tho I hate to think what the shipping fees are for something so heavy

-D

Yeah it's cheap at the moment and shipping is around the $1500 mark from what i saw. I'm keen if it goes for under 9k..

That would be around 11k all up including shipping and taxes.

If it goes for any more it might be a better option to get a nitto 2.7 built here..

Weezy has a point (as a purist lol) as Rb30 bottom ends are awesome for the power gain, but the car loses value when you take the original rb26 out of it, which is the only reason I'm going to stick with the 26 bottom end

No pos RB30 bottom ends should be in a GT-R imo

:ninja:

Dont get me wrong, I'm all for twin cam RB30's in VLT's, GTSTs, etc but not a GT-R... C'mon lol

Think I should of called before I went for a drive, went all the way to MC Doyles Crash Repairs and they were closed... as in like they didnt pay their bills and got shut down. Guess I'll have to take my business elsewhere...

11k shipped for engine worth 5800?

Who's making a couple of grand?

My r34 rb26 motor was under 3k del

Yeah bit too much for shipping. I paid 60,000yen for a pallet (~A$700). If I had more money I would have loaded it up.

And Vu plz don't go to mc doyle unless u don't care about how your car comes out.

They're that bad are they? I've heard good and bad about them, was thinking I'd try them out myself but seeing they're close, ah wells.

What i was meaning to say was i'm prepared to pay 9k maximum for it and that would be around the 11k mark delivered after shipping and taxes.. If it goes for any more than that price i'd be looking into getting a motor built here.

    • I get you, we’ll see I’m aiming for 200ish kw now and hopefully 300rwkw down the line after some upgrades maybe like headstuds, E85 flex fuel etc  so trying to make it final for that now, I can get a GTT airbox for $280 so it’s not too bad but not sure if there’s better ways to spend that money. I seen online they say pod filter which isn’t enclosed isn’t good especially for a plus T.      hard to say what to do
    • Meh. How much power can you make from a +T anyway? I wouldn't have though it would be enough to challenge the airbox. It's not as if it's tiny compared with the turbo one. As to putting a pod in a stock airbox .... it's not the filter element that would be restrictive. It would be the air inlet to the box that would be the narrow point, which you could open up regardless of what element was inside. On my R32 I opened up the sort of triangular opening in the bottom front corner of the box, deformed (heated, moulded) some 4" stormwater pipe to fit to that opening and punched a 4" hole down through the inner guard to the spot where the stock intercooler used to be. This was purely in the search for a cold intake, but you could do something similar if you need to open up the inlet side of it. The AFM tube size is the same for both NA and turbo, so the outlet from the airbox is same same anyway. If you're going to do the right thing, then an aftermarket ECU won't care about the AFM (ie, you can get rid of it). But even if it was still there, people pull >300rwkW through them all day, and I suspect you won't be going there.
    • R34 RB25de Neo by the way ^
    • Doing a +T on my car and I’ve read the precious forums lots of mixed reviews from sometime back.  checking if anyone has any ideas for airbox or enclosed pod filter or solutions?  I was thinking stock GTT box but some say it’s restrictive? I seen some people try fit in a pod in the box anyone done that recently?  not any good enclosed options ? Thanks
