Anyone know any good gym equipment whole salers in Adelaide that do decent prices on things like bench, bench bar, adj dumbells, etc etc.

Not interested in a cable system as I prefure free weights, loss of license means no way to get to a gym so I'll bring a gym home LOL

There's some mob on Port Road, Hindmarsh who I can't recall their name. They have decent equipment. Just up from the Entertainment Centre if you're willing to suss it out.

I don't get out to a gym much anymore, so I have my own home gym that gets used more than any gym franchise I once joined. I don't have the full range of equipment like a proper gym ... but at least I don't have to wait to use my home equipment.

:)

What headgasket should i run on my rb25det? Was quoting a rough estimate on a ACL Metal Head Gasket from turbo tune fr about 250 300, i think it was and also is it worth geting the ARP head bolts?

depends on the application? Making enough power to warrant a steel head hasket and stronger bolts?

Just do it, for a few dollars now, you won't regret it later. I'm doing mine soon, including a port/polish on the head and I'll be going the same route (Metal HG and ARP head studs)

yeah i have to have my head inspected for cracks and shit, so also thinking a port and polish.

Its actually in a VL for now haha

Cheers Rubz, I'll go for a drive tonight and see if I can see what your talking about.

I'm down with you on that I HATE waiting for equipment at the gym. I'm really keen on a bench and free weights, adjustable dumbell and bench bar and you can basically work out every part of your body from that and the fact its free weight the surrounding muscles get a workout to stabalize the weights. Cable sh!t doesn't do it for me.

Don't forget guys that if you if you are going to run metal head gaskets you will need to prep both the head and block mating surfaces to the correct finish. If you don't then there is a fair chance that they will leak.

Now you have to ask yourself how you are going to prep the block with the pistons in place.

Also don't forget that if you are going to change to ARP studs then you will need to torque plate hone the bores as you will be using greater torque settings and the bore will be more deformed. This is the same story for main studs in that you will need to line bore the mains.

So i guess the moral of the story is that if you are going to do a rebuild it a perfect opportunity to change to MLS head gasket and ARP studs, but other than with a rebuild it's not the ideal time to change.

There are many flaws in that argument Steve, but surely even you recognise that 'God' is a word that men created to describe events that they couldn't understand. For the above statement to hold true God would have to be measurable like light and heat.

Also you can watch evolution at work by studying a virus (although there is some debate as to whether viruses can be considered a form of life or something that exists at the edge of life).

Last time I checked Dave, it was the other way around.

I prefer to believe that I was created in the image of God rather than have evolved from a Baboon....although when I wake up some mornings, the mirror tells me a different story :)

Weezy, the place that Roo is referring to doesn't make good quality commercial stuff....unless times have changed.

I had some commercial grade equipment made up many many years ago at a place further west of the that place (SA Gym Equipment 456 Port Road, Hindmarsh).

I'm not sure if they are still there (probably not) but unlike most places, this mob used cast pulleys (not plastic) with bearings (not nylon bushes) and heavier grade cable. They had a wide range of olympic bars & benches, power racks and smith machines with ball brgs rather than nylon bushes.

They'd custom make anything you wanted.

You're welcome to check out my set up if you ever need to get ideas.

Spot on Dale, unlike a composition style head gasket, metal shims are nowhere near as forgiving.

As for torque plates, I've measued bores on some overbored blocks from underneath with an internal micrometer after a head was bolted on to find an oval bore with a discrepancy of as much as .010" (.025mm).....and peeps wonder why some recon engines burn more oil than worn out ones, lol.

Line boring mains isn't always necessary though, but you should still torque the main caps with brgs installed (but crank removed) and check for clearance, end float and brg crush before final assembly.

My only problem is my pocket isn't oozing with disposiable money - I'm sure getting something custom made etc would cost a pretty penny,

Having said that I know this stuff is expensive but you can go over board, so I don't mind forking out coin to a degree lol

PM me some photos of your setup if you don't mind Pete? I'll have to swing passed there and have a look.

I've only got one a bit weeks left of license left rofl,

So you think SA Gym Equipment are the way to go? or are they the ones that build poor quality?

SA Gym Equipment are the good guys....that's where I got my gear from.

But like I said, I don't think they're there anymore......not sure if they've closed for good or just moved......check the above address first.

    • GCG is a good company, they're a major distributor for Garrett in Japan as well.
    • Nah, OEM washer bottle and brake fluid reservoirs are fine I don't know what it is with the plastic that Mazda used, some plastics, like the washer bottle and brake fluid res are fine, and still look new after 20 years use, where as the coolant expansion tank, and PS reservoir, that I replaced with new OEM items when I first got the car, turned yellow and started getting brittle a few years later If the dirty yellow stained plastics didn't trigger me there wouldn't be an issue, but they did, much like the battery bracket....... Meh As for going back to work full time to support car stuff, nope, why, because I own a Mazda NC MX5, not a Nissan R series Skyline 🤣
    • I've never heard of CJ-motor, so can't advise you on them. I'd just go straight to GCG for a GCG highflow though. Seems no point to use a middleman. I'm somewhat surprised that the price on the CJ site is lower than the GCG retail price. Even though CJ would get a discount of some sort, you would hardly expect them to give up so much margin. Maybe the price is out of date? Having said that "I'd go to GCG"...when I did my highflow, I went to Hypergear. I did this https://hypergearturbos.com/product/rb25dethighflow/#tab-dyno-results with the R34 OP6 450HP profile. With the BB centre (extra $400) and intially with the standard boost actuator, but I eventually got him to send me the high pressure one when I got to the point of being able to actually use it. Ends up costing the same sort of money as the GCG highflow, but this is, of course, the turbo that I KNOW has a shorter length core and so moves the comp cover rearwards. The GCG apparently doesn't do that. My mechanic also swears by the GCG highflow, given that we have another turbo rebuilder who does something essentialy the same as theirs, using Garrett wheels. He says it stands up at really low revs and makes good power. I haven't pushed my HG highflow past ~240-250rwkW yet (should have a little more in it, but unclear how much) and it does have a fairly gentle boost ramp. OK, it's much better now that I have gotten my boost controller tuned up on it.  A lot of my earlier unhappiness was because I couldn't keep the wastegate flap as closed as it needed to be (including some mechanical issues). I'd still prefer it to boost up nearly as quickly as the stocker, and it certainly a bit slower than that. So maybe the GCG one is worth the first look (for you).
    • Ok thanks 🙂 I will higly consider this. Any "known" company for a good reviews and experience to send that off? Is that CJ-motor good one? Or go straight to GCG site? I need to use VPN to even find some of those "shops" let alone access them 🙂
    • You can literally put in as much WMI as it takes to quench the combustion totally (and then back it off a little, obviously), and it will keep making more and more power. The power comes from the cooling effect of the water (and the meth) and the extra fuel (the meth, which also has massive octane). It is effectively exactly like running E85. One might be slightly better than the other, but they are damn close. But with either you can lean on the boost or the timing (or both) waaaay more than with just petrol and the results are similar. Here's the first thing I googled for an anecdotal bit of evidence. Can't access the attachment without being a gold member, but it is there for the getting if able to, or searched up elsewise perhaps. https://www.hpacademy.com/forum/general-tuning-discussion/show/wmi-vs-e85/
