ok, what are peoples experiences with the Electronic Boost Controllers? Id love some feedback with ease of use, installation difficulty, value for money and of course, the good, bad and downright ugly of em all. Ive read a few writeups on turbosmart e-boost and blitz ebc's but companies generally write what they want you to know.

Cheers, Allan

Hey mate I can't offer any real feed back but I'm looking at a HDi setup.

So far the reviews I've found are good and it seems to be a reasonable price for the simple all electronic setup. So far this is my pick for bang for your buck so I'll let you know what its like when I get mine at xmas.

what sort of prices are you looking at buddy? as there is quite a range out there,

bang for buck i couldnt go past an hdi one - however i went for the model below, the one without the gauge (as i already had one)

its a nice little neat device and the delivery from the supplier was equally nice hahah

i may even know of one for sale in the Brisbane area in immaculate condition...complete with optional Blitz Power Meter.

do you know what colour? i got the URAS edition and the white stands out a bit against the dash..

do you know what colour? i got the URAS edition and the white stands out a bit against the dash..

its just the regular grey colour...the white ones are a bit ricey.

who said AVC-R?...lol...try running 24+ psi with an AVC-R.

Ill have to post some piccies one day of my death machine, methanol and 36pound into a 1.8l sohc subaru donk of the 1980's vintage. was my weekend warrior for the drags but ive been commanded to get rid of it lol, i have spent waaaay to much money on it. Thanks for the input guys, its great, as for DirtGarage, id love to know more of the ID III please good sir. I was also recommended an AVCR or Blitz by another person so it seems there the go! Hopefully that gearbox is well on its way to getting built and my turbo's will arrive mid next week.

Cheers, Allan

I run a basic Blitz EBC at 25 lb and have never seen an issue with it Allan.

Have a few friends all running 20 plus lb with a variety of ebc's as well.

The most popular big boost ebc at Jambo that I saw was the turbo smart job. Some of those guys were running insane amounts of pressure through those things.

I did a review on the AVC-R vs the SBC ID-III a few years back...

You might find it helpful... I personally believe the ID-III is probablly the best money can buy, they just so realiable and easy to use...

I Also agree with Paul, the AVC-R can be very touchy with high boost applications... Most single solinoid controllers face this issue when using a high gain...

Anyway, link to the review I did ---> http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/SB...ml&hl=avc-r

all the time buddy ! :D

have you mapped whats actually occurring on a dyno with the AVC-R at 24+?

we changed from avc-r to Blitz ID-III and made the same power with 2psi less peak boost.

Have used the Blitz ID-III to control boost on several low mount twin internally wastegated and single high mount externally wastegated set-ups up to 34psi...solid as a rock!

Didn't you hear Noel ? He has a turbo'd micra that makes 50hp on 25psi of boost. The turbo is actually a specially designed straw that he blows into while he's driving. He gets them for free from the Baskins store.

    • Nope.    Grab a varex and turn it down as you get close to home, win win?
    • So, I've had my V36 for about a month now and have already copped an "excessive exhaust noise" notification from QLD TMR, reported by someone in my local area. It's a twin as per the original, and can have a bit of a throaty note to it when idling cold 😄 and if I do get up it a bit, it can be noisy, but it did pass a roadworthy inspection before sale, so.... ... but in the interest of being a good neighbour, I do want to quieten it down a bit. Is anyone here running a quiet aftermarket cat-back on their V36 or 370Z? And the big, bold question: does an aftermarket cat-back really make much of a performance difference on these cars?
    • The wiring diagram for the R33 RB25 is freely available, and is essentially the same same as most other RBs (just with differences as to which pin # does which job). To get the ECU to power up, you just need to provide power to the ECCS relay, and have the other power feeds that come in from the top left of the wiring diagram (wrt the ECU) that give perma power to the fuel pump relay, the ECU itself, etc etc, all connected. When you put power on all these it will just come to life. It's pretty clear from the diagram what needs to happen. Just follow the lines from the 12V + supply stuff in the top left over towards the ECU. I've even posted snips of such diagrams (not for vanilla 25, I think for Neo and 26) to various threads here in the last few months, talking about what it takes to get the fuel pump and FPCM up and going. Search these up and they will help get you started on doing the same with the vanilla 25 diagram. Hell, for all I know, I've done the same with that one in years past and have forgotten.
    • Yep...so unless someone posts up the answer you will need to probe from the ECU connector to the dash plug with a multi meter in continuity mode to trace the wires.  Note the ECU has multiple - and + (and across different key settings - Battery, IGN and Start) and most likely the power is fed from the connector(s) that is normally near the left hand headlight.
    • Thanks Duncan, I am actually just trying to get the Rb turning and running with the RB25DET S2 original loom itself  I am just trying to get it going outside the body and not thinking about the S15 or trying to match anything to the S15 loom at all I am only trying to see if anyone has done this and what pin they found to be the ignition trigger and ECU+/- on the dash connector, that's about it. Thanks
